Bill Clinton Hospitalized (Updated)
[Guest post by DRJ]
NBC News reports former President Bill Clinton has been hospitalized in New York:
“Early reports indicated that the former president experienced chest pains and has received a stent. A stent is small mesh tube that is used to treat narrowed or weakened arteries.”

UPDATE — Politico posts this statement by Douglas Band, counselor to former President Clinton:
“Today President Bill Clinton was admitted to the Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital after feeling discomfort in his chest. Following a visit to his cardiologist, he underwent a procedure to place two stents in one of his coronary arteries. President Clinton is in good spirits, and will continue to focus on the work of his Foundation and Haiti’s relief and long-term recovery efforts. In 2004, President Clinton underwent a successful quadruple bypass operation to free four blocked arteries.”

and now I will spend time in purgatory as penance for thinking “and I’ll bet she stopped for coffee on the way, too”.
JSinAZ (ae2d5e) — 2/11/2010 @ 2:00 pmI was watching that PR spot for aid to Haiti (with Clinton and Bush) with my wife, and we both were struck by how old he suddenly appears. Gaunt, really – and whiter than chalk. Hope it’s not serious.
Dmac (799abd) — 2/11/2010 @ 2:07 pmA stent is not really a huge deal anymore usually, but gall-bladder surgery isn’t supposed to be either. I don’t like his politics or respect his behavior, but I hope he recovers well and quickly.
Stashiu3 (44da70) — 2/11/2010 @ 2:09 pmYeah, I had one (stent) put in March of 2009. Now, I am on meds that make my blood so thin that I almost bleed to death when I cut myself shaving.
peedoffamerican (44a207) — 2/11/2010 @ 2:11 pmBill Clinton still hits McD’s for their 2 for $2.22 Sausage McMuffins, tater tots and a cup o’Joe every morning.
Old habits are hard to break.

I know you and I have our differences but if your medicine is Plavix get a second opinion. And a third. It’s no good for your heart to be unclogged if your blood is pouring out of your stomach.

Combine eight years in the Oval Office with a post-Presidential heart surgery, and it’s definitely going to take a toll. Hopefully he recovers okay.

HeavenSent (ae267e) — 2/11/2010 @ 2:32 pmI’ve updated the post with a statement from President Clinton’s counselor.
DRJ (6a8003) — 2/11/2010 @ 2:34 pmAs another of the enstented (is that a word? it ought to be if it’s not), I suspect that Bubba’s main feelings right now are (a) gratitude that he was able to get prompt and effective treatment (rather than dropping dead before anyone could do anything) and (b) gratitude that he didn’t have to have another coronary artery bypass surgery. The stent implantation isn’t a picnic, but it sure beats having your chest cracked open, especially when it comes to the ease and length of recovery.
Beldar (14ebb7) — 2/11/2010 @ 2:47 pmBubba was never one of my favorites, but I do hope he has a speedy recovery.
And if Hillary was seen leaving the White House and he was hospitalized in NY, she has plenty of time to get coffee on the way.
Dr. K (adb7ba) — 2/11/2010 @ 2:47 pmBeldar,
You’re both “Stentees” — another word that should exist if it doesn’t already.
DRJ (6a8003) — 2/11/2010 @ 3:05 pmnk,
I appreciate your concern. Yes, it is Plavix, and have had 4 opinions. Due to the insulin, arthritis meds, High blood pressure meds, and high cholesterol meds that I am on, it is the least risky. I have to go in every two months for bloodwork and such to monitor it.
peedoffamerican (44a207) — 2/11/2010 @ 3:21 pmBeldar,
My stent was a breeze. 1 night in hospital for monitoring. The only really aggravating factor to the procedure was the pain in the groin area where they went in the artery, lasted a few days. It’s the blood thinners that are a bitch.

Alasdair (e7cb73) — 2/11/2010 @ 4:02 pmSeems that Alec Baldwin got hospitalised briefly, too … it’s a rough period for lefties !
Alasdair (e7cb73) — 2/11/2010 @ 4:06 pmWay too late since they have both passed away. Father in 1990. Mother in 2005.
peedoffamerican (44a207) — 2/11/2010 @ 4:20 pmGood thing he was close to NY Presbyterian…might be prudent to stay away from Bethesda and Walter Reed until they get that Government Health-Care straightened out.
AD - RtR/OS! (011035) — 2/11/2010 @ 5:21 pmHey AD,
I wonder why he didn’t go to Canada or Cuba. Don’t they have better health care than the crappy ole USA?
peedoffamerican (44a207) — 2/11/2010 @ 5:23 pmDidn’t go there…wouldn’t be prudent…
AD - RtR/OS! (011035) — 2/11/2010 @ 5:31 pmYeah, in both cases just great care;
which is why Fidel imported a surgeon from Madrid, and the PM (?) for Newfoundland came to the ‘States for his proceedure.
They both forgot to check with Michael Moore.
Yeah, I just love how all these libs trashmouth US health care, and praise Great Britain, Canada, France, Cuba, etc………. for their great socialistic health care. BUT, when the old ticker stops keeping time properly, they opt to receive the second rate sytem that we supposedly have.
Libs thy name is hypocrite.
