Behind the Scenes at the White House

Filed under: Obama — DRJ @ 8:56 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Only a year in and the Obama Administration exposés have begun:

Financial Times Washington Bureau Chief Edward Luce has written a granularly informed insider account about those who hold the keys to the inner most sanctum of Obama Land — Rahm Emanuel, Robert Gibbs, Valerie Jarrett and David Axelrod.”

Steve Clemons at the Washington Note describes it as a “vital article — a brave one” based on “dozens of interviews” with unnamed sources. Apparently it took so much courage that a Brit had to write it.

  1. Okay, I’ll admit my ignorance. What is a “granularly informed” insider account?

  8. Well, I didn’t read the Financial Times piece but I did read the “review” of it in the Washington Note blog post that DRJ linked. Talk about unintentionally hilarious. I get that the Washington Note writer, Steve Clemons, is a lefty-left liberal in good standing, and I can even agree with him that Obama is ill-served by keeping the coterie of Chicago fixers and thugs around him, but it strikes me that this writer and his piece are pretty much what I hate about modern Washington journalism. From the name-dropping of the hip and tony DC restaurants that Mr. Clemons frequents, to the risible claim that the Obama ascendancy to national prominence was a major surprise, to the overarching belief that Obama has been a failure thus far because he hasn’t given America the unadulterated liberalism that it so craves, this article is a laugh riot of every lefty fairy tale that has been and will be told about the Age of Obama. Conservatives will get a special kick out of the closing paragraph in which Mr. Clemons pleads for Dear Leader to add “diverse national security observers like Tom Daschle, John Podesta, Brent Scowcroft, Arianna Huffington, Fareed Zakaria, Katrina vanden Heuvel, John Harris, James Fallows, Chuck Hagel, Strobe Talbott, James Baker, [and] Zbigniew Brzezinski” to his team. As if what Obama really needs are a bunch of crazed leftists and yesterday’s Washington hacks trying to solve the War on Terror. if we can somehow survive them, the next three years are bound to be pretty damn entertaining.

  11. A side bar to the FT article mentions the success of the Reagan WH and stated that while Reagan’s intellectual skills were lacking he was a great Hollywood communicator. How can anyone read Reagan’s handwritten letters or watch any of his several speeches in his prime, and believe that man was lacking intellectual skills? How I would have loved to see Reagan in a policy debate with our current president, whom the FT christens as the greatest communicator of his generation.

  12. … and believe that man was lacking intellectual skills?

Standard part of the “Progressive” narcissist worldview:
    1. “We are the intelligent ones, therefore we should rule.”
    2. “Anyone who disagrees with us must be stupid, ignorant, or evil.”

If they admitted that someone could honestly disagree with them, it would undermine their rationalization of their self image, and their egos can’t stand that.
