Chemical Ali Executed in Iraq

Filed under: International — DRJ @ 12:29 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Saddam Hussein’s cousin Chemical Ali was executed Monday in Iraq:

“Iraq says the man known as “Chemical Ali” was hanged today for ordering the 1988 poison gas attack that killed more than 5,000 Kurds.

The chemical air raid is thought to be the worst single attack of its kind against civilians.”

Ali’s execution followed his fourth death sentence for the Kurd and other attacks, as well as the deaths of several relatives.

    Oh, and it’s about time.

  2. Bush lied, and Ali died!

    BWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go organize my sock drawer.

  3. Wonder why we haven’t heard all the gnashing of teeth about how long this execution took from the time of his crime…….

  4. Saddam never had WMDs and was not a threat to anyone!

/it’s a shame Bill Clinton didn’t take care of this when the resolutions were originally broken. It’s also a shame that Bush 41 didn’t take control of the situation away from the UN. The UN plan killed a lot of people for no good anyone can cite. You don’t fight a madman murderer only to leave him in power over his country to fight another day.

If it was possible to turn every Islamist country into Iraq today, that would be a damn good thing. But that’s a hopeless fantasy, even if the president isn’t “the surge will fail! “Obama.

  5. Just went there and sent my own message supporting the presidents call for my competition for insurance companies, let them sell across state lines, then instead of one more competitor, you get thousands. Use their own weapons against them!!! Flood them with messages.

  6. dang it wrong thread!!! aaarrghghh

  7. Yeah, Saddam didn’t have any because he used it all on the Kurdish people. But other than shooting at our fighters in the no-fly zone, paying off the families of suicide bombers or committing wholesale genocide in his own country, he wasn’t a threat at all.

  8. Wholesale genocide is a fair description, da Hawk.

But that’s only a justification for war if the president is a democrat. Indeed, when Bill Clinton announced a policy of regime change, the democrats and media were delighted with the wisdom.

But that changes nothing. Bush wasn’t a democrat, and therefore the invasion was a crime, etc etc.

  9. Amazing. Even Iraq carries out an execution faster than California.

  10. “But that’s only a justification for war if the president is a democrat.”

Dustin – You need to remember that the Democrats voted against the First Gulf War, so the invasion of a valued ally doesn’t necessarily do it for them. Plus Clinton sat on his hands during the nastiness in Rwanda, so don’t bank on genocide as being enough for Democrats. Obama specifically said the prospect of genocide in Iraq would not be enough to persuade him to keep American troops there, directly refuting that theory.

  11. OK OK, you got me.

It’s only a justification for war if the president is both democrat and interested in a war for some reason.

  13. “It’s only a justification for war if the president is both democrat and interested in a war for some reason.”

Dustin – Try again. How about if the president is interested in some principle or defending some national interest instead of merely interested in war. I’m not sure any presidents are purely interested in war for war’s sake, but your mileage may vary.

  14. Waste of a good hunk of rope. Didn’t they have a stack of munitions-to-be-destroyed that they could have added him to?

  18. I am pretty sure daley understands this, but I’m joking.

Still, I find it remarkable how many people decided regime change in Iraq was a great idea in 1998 and was not a great idea when the stakes were more obvious, Saddam had acted worse, and we had great strategic reasons for the Iraq war (this point some might disagree with… I think they aren’t super bright, but they’re out there).

If a President Gore had called for the Iraq invasion, I am dead certain it would have gone through much smoother on both sides of the aisle.
