Democratic Defections of the Day

Filed under: Politics — DRJ @ 10:03 pm

Alabama Representative Parker Griffith, formerly a Democrat, is now a Republican.

Firedoglake’s Jane Hamsher is probably still a Democrat, but she nevertheless defected to Fox News for a day to urge conservatives and liberals to unite against ObamaCare.

  1. and from all accounts, Parker Griffith is the squishiest sort of newborn RINO…. color me underwhelmed.

besides, isn’t the firedoghag the one that is trying to get Liberman’s wife fired from the Komen foundation? whacko!

  2. And in other news, ^^^^^^^ , the POINT is that support for Bee Ho — within the ranks where support for him was thought to be safe — is, in fact, dwindling.

  3. MadCow and Wonkette managed to make this story about it being a net negative for the GOP and teabaggers.

  5. Hamsher and Fox? What’s next?

Obama joining the John Birch Society? The Reagan Library becoming the headquarters for the Communist Party of the USA? Roger Ebert giving two thumbs up for Duece Bigalow – Congressional Gigolo?

Repent Now – the end is surely near!

  6. Wasn’t Hamsher the girlfriend of Andy Stern of SEIU? That’s the union of thugs who disrupt Tea Party protests at Town Hall meetings.

His methods are summed up in his famous quote, “We like to say: We use the power of persuasion first. If it doesn’t work, we try the persuasion of power.”

  8. Wasn’t Hamsher the girlfriend of Andy Stern of SEIU?

You are correct. The breakup was pretty messy. She accused him of stealing her copy of Mao’s Little Red Book and he threatened to report her to the party leaders.

This followed their disagreement on where to vacation. He wanted to visit the mountains in North Korea but she wanted to go to the beaches of Cuba.

  9. Andy Stern isn’t happy with the Senate’s version of Obamacare, although nationalized health care has long been one of Stern’s goals.

The possibility his union’s healthcare contracts will not get a special exemption from the proposed tax on Cadillac plans, and/or the failure to enforce a public option has Andy and Hamsher on the warpath.

  10. I’ve met Parker, he seemed to be a good guy with a decent head on his shoulders (only met him once so…). I always wondered why he put a D by his name to run in a conservative district anyway.

  11. I’m generally a Big Tent Republican, but I don’t think there’s enough canvas in the whole world that could be stitched on to the Big Tent’s left-most annex to accommodate Hamsher.

  12. (I suspect she would agree.)

  13. Hamsher’s pretty much following the Hillary Clinton strategerie from the spring of 2008, when she ended up appearing on Fox because the other media outlets were in such a love-fest with Barack Obama, there was no other way to get her message out.

In this case, the networks for the most part have been willing to turn a blind eye to the desperate measures the Senate Democrats have taken to get any health care bill approved, which has angered the far left to the point that they now marginally share common cause with conservatives on killing the Senate plan. So why not go on “Fox & Friends”, when you’re playing to 3-4 times the audience you could get by going on “Morning Joe”? (Hell, judging by the most recent ratings, Jane could get her point across to more viewers by going on “Red Eye” at 3 in the morning than by going on “Morning Joe”. Just as long as they don’t put her in the ‘legs’ chair…)

  15. Politico reports that John McCain is attempting to woo other Dems to switch sides. The GOP will be receiving a list of potential ‘party switching targets’. It certainly can’t hurt to give it a try. At this point, the GOP may be thinking they’ve got nothing left to lose.

“Democratic Rep. Chris Carney received a phone call Wednesday from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) asking him to consider becoming a Republican, a top GOP official told POLITICO.

Carney’s office at first did not comment other than to acknowledge the call, but Carney released a statement Wednesday night saying, in part, “I appreciate the Republican Party’s outreach, but I have no plans to change parties.”
