AGW Defender: Let’s Not Engage in Character Assassination and Overheated Debate . . . You Asshole

It’s a real setback — not because there’s anything wrong with the science, but because the character assassination and the temperature of the debate which you can just see from our colleague in America is just obscuring the important issue, which is: has the world warmed in the last 100 years or not?

    “Yeah, scientists manipulate their data all the time to come up with the results they want! It’s a matter of course for scientists to develop peer-review that resembles a circle jerk and freeze out scientists that don’t accept our conclusions! And all scientists stonewall FOI requests and delete or throw out what’s being requested! What do you think we are, apologists for a religious cult? Asshole.”

  4. These idiot deniers are worse than birthers. The deniers are even more tin foily than birthers since they believe thousands of scientists are pulling a hoax, whereas the birthers only think Obama and maybe a few Hawaiian government officials are in on the hoax.

    The deniers must be silenced or they will destroy conservatism forevah.

    What would you call manipulating and omitting data that didn’t fit your thesis, a scientific breakthrough? You sound like a cult member.

    Just imagine Paulson, Bernanke, and Geithner exchanging emails stating that the data they had showed that TARP was unnecessary, but that it was a “shame” that it worked out that way and they were going to find ways to hide that information from Congress and the public. I doubt you’d be defending their actions in that regard, even though Phil Jones, Michael Mann, and James Hansen have been doing the same thing on a far grander scale for over 20 years.

  9. The mistake is thinking that AGW proponents are scientists, they are not. The last thing they want to talk about is science, scientific protocol, and scientific processes. The ad hominem has always started with them.

    Love how Watson gives us the real low-down with his description of how science works beginning at 1:03.

    “…the only thing science has going for it is that it must be absolutely and totally open, and look at the important issues, not the issue of character assassination…”

    Professor Watson knows the right words to use, he and his colleagues at the CRU talk the talk, but have failed spectacularly at walking the walk.

    Absolutely. The Administration likes to say 2500 scientists agree on climate change. What is it now, 2000-500? Or maybe 1250-1250?

    It just doesn’t matter how many there are because this administration will always go to their fallback line, if pressed: denial.

  18. This excerpt from today’s LA Times is a fitting tribute to limousine liberalism throughout the Western World, if not the world in general. And the environmentalism and leftism of Denmark reminds me of the do-as-I-say-not-what-I-do laziness and phoniness of an Al Gore!!:

    Something is rotting in the state of Denmark. Lots of things, actually, and it’s a bit of an embarrassment for this Scandinavian nation as it prepares to host a widely anticipated global environmental summit this week.

    Denmark is proud of its image as one of the greenest countries in the world; it’s probably why it was chosen as the site of the 15th United Nations Conference on Climate Change. But beneath the gloss lurk some inconvenient truths, including the fact that, pound for pound, Denmark produces more trash per capita than any other country in the 27-member European Union.

    The Danes tossed out 1,762 pounds of garbage per person in 2007, the latest year for which EU-wide statistics are available. That’s more than the Dutch (1,386 pounds), the Brits (1,258) and the French (1,190); a lot more than the Greeks (986); and double the Lithuanians (880).

    It even surpasses the Americans (1,690 pounds), who are often held up as the boogeyman of heedless, needless consumption. By the numbers, Denmark is one of the most wasteful — in both senses of the term — societies in the world.

    …The Danish may lead the world in producing wind turbines, but much of their power still comes from coal-fired plants, major emitters of greenhouse gases.

    …Meat consumption has been linked to climate change because of widespread deforestation to create pastureland or to grow feed crops and because of the gases, such as methane, released into the atmosphere by belching, flatulent livestock. In an analysis of worldwide meat-eating trends spanning 40 years, the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization concluded that Denmark topped the carnivore list.

    In 2002, the last year of the study, the average Dane consumed a whopping 321 pounds of meat — nearly a pound a day. For Americans, the figure was 275 pounds.

    ^ Regardless of our politics, when it comes to environmentalism and how it impinges on our personal comfort and happiness, almost all of us end up behaving like limousine liberals. Another reason why I can understand many people shy away from characterizing themselves as liberal.

    Thank you. I’ve also updated my piece to show another error in the WaPo article, a graph purporting to show that 9 of the Earth’s warmest years took place in the last 10 years. Too bad they forgot about the Cambrian, the Silurian, Devonian, and the vast majority of the Mesozoic Era. (And we still don’t know about the Medieval Warm Period).

    Overlooking those billions of years of errors, the graph also lists 2005 as the warmest year, failing to note that the result falls within the margin of error in comparison with 1998.

    James Fallows has written that WaPo has gone downhill while he was away in China. This could be an example. The paper is clearly out of its depth on global warming and should stop writing articles about the subject if it can’t write them accurately.

  20. And even better, environmentally conscious , ethical Westerners can save the planet and still live the high life by paying a modest sum to prevent the birth of more Third World babies!

    So you click on the PopOffsets Calculator, tell it how much carbon you have emitted and give your carbon emissions a title (something like “Summer Holiday 2009,” it suggests), and then it tells you how much money you must donate to baby-blocking initiatives overseas. For example, if you fly round-trip from London to Sydney — which emits ten tons of carbon — you must pay around £40 ($70) and help prevent the birth of one child in Kenya. Visa and Mastercard accepted!

    This is how the value of human life is calculated by climate-change alarmists. A baby in Kenya is equal to ten tons of carbon, or one Londoner’s holiday in Australia. It has no more value than that, no intrinsic worth, no moral or cultural or human meaning; it is simply reduced to a bargaining chip in some wealthy Westerner’s desire to absolve himself of eco-guilt.
