Colorado’s Politically Incorrect Sheriff

Filed under: Political Correctness — DRJ @ 9:51 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Larimer County, Colorado, Sheriff Jim Alderden (also known as the “Balloon Boy” Sheriff) will once again celebrate Christmas with a politically incorrect Christmas tree-trimming party:

“A Yuletide-loving sheriff with a penchant for controversy today announced his “Apparently Annual Politically Incorrect Christmas Tree Trimming Party.”

Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden began the event in 2007 to thumb his nose at a Fort Collins task force that recommended no publicly funded holiday displays that favor a single religion. In response, Alderden put up his Christmas tree — funded with private donations — outside the county office and beyond the city’s jurisdiction.”

The celebration starts with “a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Christmas carols, horse and buggy rides and a visit from Santa Claus.”

  1. serve up some red meat for snacks, have a bonfire for global warming and auction off a firearm for charity, and it’d be just about perfect. %-)

  2. Awesome! It’s the Christmas season and libs need to get over themselves and enjoy it like the rest of us.

I have relatives in Ft. Collins and they say the city is increasingly going from purple to blue.

  3. What’s the objection if it’s privately funded?

Sounds more like the “Apparently Annual Liberal Bogeyman Christmas Tree Trimming Party.”

  5. Nels, you really need to get Harriet off your back. You’ll be much better off that way. Then you can see facts for what they are and what liberals have been doing for half a century.

  6. I’m not a Christian, but I offer nothing but encouragement for the good sheriff. It’s privately funded. No one is forced to attend or participate. It IS the holiday season. So, what is the issue? That’s the point: there is none.

  7. For 2012, Joe Arpaio/Jim Alderden. About time we run 2 honest men with values.

  9. The guy raised private funds for his celebration. I don’t see that that implicates issues of church/state separation, or does much of anything with regard to a requirement — much less a “recommendation” — against publicly funded celebrations of any sort.

  10. I was once the head of security for a large retail establishment. In said establishment was a high end jewelery retailer (not a chain store) which every Christmas had a window display of a nativity scene. Two years running we had a woman complain that, and I quote, “Public displays of nativity scenes are unconstitutional and illegal.”
This woman ended up in front of the store making a wild eyed, literaly spittle flecked, rant about “Christianists” and threatening law suits against the store, the landlord and the city if the display was not removed. When she grabbed a stanchion for a pedestrian barrier and tried to smash the window (no chance, plastic pole against 3/4 inch bullet and shatter resistant window) we threw her out and told she was no longer welcome on the property.

    Now, that’s a Law&Order ticket I could support.
