1. Apparently, the Escalade’s airbags did not deploy. Could be a good sign, along with the hospital saying Woods was not admitted. He could have been transferred, of course.

3. This is terrible. Reports are saying he is hospitalized in serious condition. Things that happen at 2 AM frequently have a domestic component. There are some nasty rumors about Tiger and another woman that were out on the web yesterday. What if he had sustained his injuries prior to getting in his car, was trying to get away, and that contributed to the crash. Maybe the charges the police are talking about filing are not against him. Not good. Not good at all. I hope he will be OK.

4. Just heard while watching the Auburn game:
   - Police said alcohol wasn’t involved but charges pending
   - Tiger Woods has been released with facial contusions
   - He hit a fire hydrant and a tree
   - Like Steve said, airbags didn’t deploy and the announcers credited this with the car going below 33 mph

6. Best wishes to Woods for a quick recovery and to get back into the swing of things. One has to wonder what he was doing behind the wheel of a Escalade — wasn’t he a pitchman for Buick’s for years?! But then, he has a natural affection for any Caddy. Perhaps it was Black Friday Fever and at 2:25 AM, the day after Thanksgiving, he just had to get to Walmart for that doorbuster deal on $9 ZuZus. Just two per store!

10. From Health Central Hospital and Tiger’s Woods’ office:

    “Tiger Woods was in a minor car accident outside his home last night.

     He was admitted, treated and released today in good condition.”

11. Sounds fishy to me. There has to be more to this story. And I say this as a fan of Tiger. That time of the morning is a strange time to be out and about. Mrs. Tiger pregnant again and wanting dill pickles and ice cream??

12. I like Mr. Woods. He seems like a very nice and sensible person. That said, he needs to drive more carefully I think.

13. His wife heard the accident:
    

    Windermere police chief Daniel Saylor told The Associated Press that officers found the 33-year-old PGA star laying in the street with his wife, Elin, hovering over him.

    She told officers she was in the house when she heard the accident and “came out and broke the back window with a golf club.”

    Woods had lacerations to his upper and lower lips, and he had blood in his mouth, Saylor said.

    The chief said Woods was in and out of consciousness when his two officers arrived. He said the officers held Woods to the ground and “when he woke up, he tried to get up and lost consciousness.”

    Notable points to me: Woods was leaving home, not arriving. And hopefully his wife used an old club and not his favorite driver or putter.

14. Just goes to show that it isn’t trouble free in paradise.

    But it may also be that Tiger gets really really pissed off when he doesn’t get his way.

15. Ok, that certainly sounds reasonable to me. A man who has not been drinking tries to drive out of his driveway, at 2:30 in the morning, but runs into a fire hydrant and a tree, getting a bloody mouth. His wife uses a golf club to save him by smashing the rear window of the car. Happens every day. And many people often lose consciousness, just like that, when the police want them to lie down and they try to get up.

16. Actually, nk, your excellent synopsis of the chain of events makes the facts of Tiger’s accident look about as plausible as the plots of most operas. Where’s Verdi when you need him?

18. Did I say his wife “heard the accident”? According to TMZ, she caused the accident:
    

    “Tiger has yet to be formally interviewed by the Florida Highway Patrol — that should happen this afternoon. But we’re told Tiger had a conversation Friday — with a non-law enforcement type — detailing what went down before his Escalade hit a fire hydrant.

    We’re told he said his wife had confronted him about reports that he was seeing another woman. The argument got heated and, according to our source, she scratched his face up. We’re told it was then Woods beat a hasty retreat for his SUV — but according to our source, Woods says his wife followed behind with a golf club. As Tiger drove away, she struck the vehicle several times with the club.

    We’re told Woods became “distracted,” thought the vehicle was stopped, and looked to see what had happened. At that point the SUV hit the fire hydrant and then hit a tree.”

    Who knows what the truth is?
