Afghanistan Decision Preview

In a press conference with India’s Prime Minister Singh today, President Obama said he will soon announce his Afghanistan policy — the current one, not the March 2009 “comprehensive” policy — and that he intends to “finish the job.”
And via Hot Air, McClatchy reports President Obama will announce on December 1 that he is sending 34,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. Did it really just take Obama 3 months and 1 day to decide to send 34,000 troops?

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry over this – this is not the troop level his commander asked for, he’s trying to do it on the cheap, or else summarily retreat after we suffer too many casualties. You’re either in it to win it, or get the hell out; don’t do half – measures when our soldier’s lives are at stake.

It’s sick that we give the Taliban an ‘On Ramp’ to victory in Afghanistan. Their victory strategy is simple: create carnage, death, and corruption in Afghanistan near that 6 month off ramp, and drive back into power. The Obama can take us out, blame somebody, and we bury our dead and the terrorists plan another 9/11, no doubt bouyed by speeches in NYC by 9/11 terrorists.

redc1c4 (fb8750) — 11/24/2009 @ 1:30 pmDetermining there will be a six-month let’s wait and see assessment without sending in the requested number of troops (or even half of them), is doomed to fail. Does he believe McCrystal pulled that number out mid-air on a whim? If he requested more than twice what is being sent, why is our President condemning us to a loss, and worse than that, sending in more young lives to be lost because obviously the number isn’t going to be enough. This is terrible.

As if the only problem with wars is someone didn’t stop and think through every possible scenario.
Anyone that has played a football game knows how unexpected things can pop up or the other side makes adjustments. Wars are on a completely different scale from a football game. No amount of thinking will ever change the facts on the battlefield much less scare the enemy.
And while Obama (who is not qualified to coach a football team much less be a fantasy team GM) dithers real soldiers are out there putting their ass on the line waiting for help.
Obama thinks if he waits long enough someone will give him the option of voting present. Or maybe he can get his lawyers have the Taliban kicked off the ballot. Maybe Acorn can get AQ to back down by organizing some protest marches.
If only the enemy were a community that needed organizing we would finally have a president with the perfect resume.

either he is real darn evil, and the plan is already being run like he wants, with tons of dead soldiers to help bolster his taking us down another peg by exiting, or he is real darn stupid, and is still asking committees to discuss and talk and plan and focus group and please tell him about the magical perfect plan for a real world war.
