PelosiCare: Are The Votes There?

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 4:45 pm

The Politico quotes Democrats saying yes:

At this moment, Democratic sources say their internal head counts have them breaking through the 218 mark this afternoon.

Consider this an open thread.

  1. A-holes, the whole lot of them…

  2. If PelosiCare passes, I hope it’s by more than one vote.

  3. Both C-SPAN and the Washington Post are live-streaming the health care debate.

  4. How can they do this, knowing the anger in the streets over this takeover???

  5. What I really don’t understand is the extreme urge to pass a bill that isn’t hashed out and that absolutely no one on earth knows what it all means/covers/costs.

Why the rush? What are the Immediate ramifications and who (specifically) profits? Never in my life have I seen such an effort in support of something that no one understands what it actually means. Is this a wetdream become real?

  6. The reason the Democrats don’t care what “anger” there is is that they know their electorate will pull the (D) lever no matter what they do.

I think it’s almost hopeless — we have CHARLIE RANGEL advising on ethics from the well of the House.

Even Botoxed Nancy should grimace at that.

  7. But Owens was *also* against it before he was sworn in. So how do you know you could trust DeDe’s word on this, especially since she went against her party and endorsed a Democrat.

    Argument FAIL.

  8. The House debate has begun closing arguments.

Eric – It was Owens, not Scozzafava, who refused to support the public option (although he’s recanted on that and other promises now). In addition, the AARP ranked Owens and Scozzafava the same on health care. Granted, Owens is more susceptible to Democratic pressure than Scozzafava — but she certainly fell into line quickly, didn’t she?

  9. Boehner was rather entertaining. This debate has been one giant emo anecdote-fest for the Leftists.

  10. If one more congresscritter says this is fiscally responsible and deficit neutral I am going to throw a midget clown through my projection screen.

  11. “How can they do this, knowing the anger in the streets over this takeover???”

They don’t need the majority of votes because they have:

    1) ACORN
    2) 2010 census
    3) Unions

Mark my words, they will take the elections in 2010 and 12 but it won’t be legal.

  12. Coverage for illegal immigrants is allowed under the House bill:

“Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus object to a provision in the Senate legislation — backed by the White House — that bars illegal immigrants from buying health insurance within a proposed new marketplace, or exchange, even if they use their own money to buy from private companies.

Illegal immigrants can buy private health insurance now, so some lawmakers say the White House position goes too far. The House bill doesn’t have that language, and several members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus met with Obama at the White House on Thursday to tell him that if that changed, he could lose as many as 20 votes.

“I think that he got our message,” Rep. Nydia Velazquez, D-N.Y., head of the Hispanic Caucus, said afterward.

House leaders said that, in keeping with the Hispanic Caucus’ demands, there was not likely to be any prohibition added to the House bill against illegal immigrants shopping in the exchange.”

  13. Bill Owens needs dirty socialist party money to have a prayer of re-election so he has to whore out his vote wantonly. He’s corrupt like that.

    happyfeet (f62c43)

  14. Eric – Dede and Owens BOTH SAID they were against it. They both lied.

  15. “Coverage for illegal immigrants is allowed under the House bill:”

Seemed real smart to keep undocumented people from buying insurance.

    imdw (36e71a)

  16. PelosiCare apparently provides that illegal immigrants can’t be penalized for not buying health insurance. Don’t you think the law should be consistent — either they can’t buy it and can’t be penalized for not buying it, or they can buy it and will be penalized if they don’t?
