Gore Vidal Calls Polanski Victim a “Hooker”

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:01 pm

Gore Vidal on the Roman Polanski matter:

I really don’t give a fuck. Look, am I going to sit and weep every time a young hooker feels as though she’s been taken advantage of?

Stay classy!

  2. Wow…

I didn’t think it was possible, but Gore Vidal actually found a way for me to hate him more.

  5. He even ended with a preposition.
If he ever gets his mind right, to the extent still possible, it’s that grammar faux pas which will embarrass him the most.

Trouble is, it’s not only funny, but 100% accurate.

  7. You know, gore vidal for me is one of those people famous for being famous. i can’t name a single thing of value he has made.

That being said, the whole interview is unbelievable and really you are only scratching the surface of the vileness there.

Like here is a particularly vile part:

    What do you mean?

    > The media can’t get anything straight. Plus, there’s usually an anti-Semitic and anti-fag thing going on with the press – lots of crazy things. The idea that this girl was in her communion dress, a little angel all in white, being raped by this awful Jew, Polacko – that’s what people were calling him – well, the story is totally different now from what it was then.

If i was the victim in that case, i would sue his ass. and i would wonder what rights the victim would have against the atlantic printing it with no mention of the fact that she actually was not a hooker. Sheesh.

  8. er: “what do you mean” was part of the interview, not my text.

  11. oh and here is another wtf moment from the interview:

    > In one recent interview, you referred to FDR as a great man.

    > He was a very great man.

    > But you opposed his foreign policy.

    > Well, of course. FDR was damaging the Republic by his imperial ways.

Okay, wait a minute. FDR’s foreign policy was basically “kick hitler’s behind. and Tojo’s too.” so wtf? he has a problem with that? am i missing something?

    A.W. (b1db52)

  12. i can’t name a single thing of value he has made.

He writes books that praise dictators. What’s not to love?

    Scott Jacobs (445f98)

  13. Gore Vidal was the writer of “Caligula”, the filthiest piece of filth ever to come out of a filty picklebiter’s filthy mind and make it into movie theaters. That’s all we need to know about him.

  14. Vidal’s statement disgusts me.

  15. Btw, i sent this to the atlantic’s feedback form:

    > Regarding your interview with Gore Vidal… how dare you let this man casually defame the victim in this case? there is no evidence that she was a hooker when Polanski raped her. There’s nothing wrong with reporting he said that vile thing, but you have an affirmative duty to say, “wait now, are you actually sayign she had sex in exchange for money that day?” and if he verifies it, say, “based on what evidence?” and if he can’t produce any, at the very least you should disclaim and state that the atlantic doesn’t have any evidence supporting his claim. that is the responsible thing to do.

    > For me Mr. Vidal is mainly famous for being famous. i don’t know or particularly care what he has contributed to society, but in a few words he has demonstrated himself to be a monumental creep.

Yes, even with those typos. it probably won’t do any good. i mean they put up with andrew sullivan and his trig trutherism.

  16. Vidal wrote some pretty good historical novels but that was before the dementia got to him. He’s 84 and well past his “sell by” date.

I wouldn’t know. I refuse to watch that movie specifically because of his connection to it.

  20. Vidal knows that if Polanski can be justly convicted, then so could much of Hollywood, including himself. And man, is he bitter about it.

  21. One only hopes that Vidal said this (when even HE otherwise wouldn’t) only due to oncoming senility. No decent person in command of his faculties would say such a thing unless thorougly deluded about the factual background.

    Mitch (890cbf)

  22. You want an earfull about Vidal, re: “Caligula”, talk to Malcolm McDowell…

    mojo (8096f2)

  23. I think it would be safe to say that young (underage) hookers are victims and are being taken advantage of by the adults involved in any sexual transaction….

I’m not sure of the law, but it seems to me that if Polanski sought out and engaged in child prostitution he’d be in as bad or worse trouble

  24. He’s a scumsucking crapweasel, with Marxist tendencies

  25. Can Vidal be sued for slander? It seems homosexuality does have a negative effect on ones ability to reason.

    Zelsdorf Ragshaft III (02615c)

  26. being raped by this awful Jew, Polacko – that’s what people were calling him –

Whether liberals were calling Polanski a Jew is irrelevant to the heinous nature of his crime. Gory Viledoll goes beyond even his usual ridiculousness in suggesting this little girl asked to be buggered.

  29. Anti-Semitism got poor Polanski. He was also a foreigner. He did not subscribe to American values in the least. To [his persecutors], that seemed vicious and unnatural.

Unbelievable. Nowhere is Polanski held responsible for his own decision, which is bad enough, but quite sickeningly, Gore Vidal has no problems with rape. He is a soulless ghoul whose conscience was seared so deeply that it is almost non-existent, perhaps only occasionally letting out a death rail howl.

It’s ironic: if Polanski had not been Jewish, had been an American and subscribed to American values (lying and cheating, per Vidal), he could have gone on his merry way after raping, sodomizing, etc., a minor and not had to face any consequences?

Oh. Wait. That’s just what he did, isn’t it?

    Dana (e9ba20)

  30. If Gore Vidal were on stage, it would be time to give the vile syphilitic old bastard the hook.

    Mike Myers (710e8b)

  31. That guy’s still alive?

    Anwyn (a130c1)

  32. He did not subscribe to American values in the least.

    Very true.

And let me say, for the record, that I support any and all discrimination and persecution against people who subscribe to a value-set that says that drugging and raping 13-year olds is ok.

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  33. Gore Vidal has not been ‘alive’ for a very long time. The fact that his corpse keeps kicking makes him as substantial as a Timex watch, and nothing more.

I bet if polanski had been born american and not jewish, Vidal would cite Polanski as a classic example of the evil of america that corrupts the innocence of little girls, etc. i just get that vibe from him.

    A.W. (b1db52)

  36. Gore just made, to him, a set of perfect statements. They were snarky, embraced no one or anything, dropped names left and right, engaged in a great deal of figurative “eye-rolling” (“everybody knows..” “..better than this country deserves..”) and basically sought to scoff at “convention.” this is very entertaining when an arch quipster alights his nasty gaze upon those you dislike. Just wait until they turn on you – not so funny or witty then.
[I’d say he sounds like a bitter old poofter – but he might read that and offer a sample. ewwww.]

  39. Why is it bad to wish the most painful, slow pancreatic cancer on vile people like Gore Vidal?

I am really wondering why? Seriously!

    HeavenSent (01a566)

  40. 40, because, Heaven, Vidal would enjoy it.

  41. btw on second pass i realize i made it sound like being jewish meant you were not american. that was unintentional. i just meant that gore cited the fact he was foreign and a jew as the supposed motivation for this unfairness, that if he was neither polanski himself would be exhibit A in his indictment of america.

    A.W. (b1db52)

  42. All right, all right, I’ll admit it. The problem with Polanski is that he’s a Polack. There, you *ssrapist supporters, you have something to distract people from the truth with.
