Reprogramming America

[Guest post by DRJ]

John Nolte at Big Hollywood says Obama now controls our television sets:

“On September 10th of this year the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) posted a press release informing the world that “from October 19-25, more than 60 network TV shows [will] spotlight the power and personal benefits of service,” and that this “unprecedented block of TV programming is the first wave of a multi-year ‘I Participate’ campaign.”

On its face this all sounds rather benign in that silly, liberal do-gooder kind of way. The networks have launched these kinds of campaigns before and other than some clunky exposition awkwardly inserted into your favorite show to meet the mandate — no harm, no foul.”

What’s wrong with this? Nolte sees a pattern. Click the link to read why.

  1. ABC is dirty socialist up one side and down the other. It looks like they ordered every show to participate in the little president man’s fascist propaganda campaign. They’re not just in the tank they’ve turned the tank into a charming two-bedroom condo and they’re meeting with the decorator this Friday.

  3. Who let this one slip by …

The teasers [for “V”] running on ABC offer a hint of this. “They gave us hope. We gave them our trust.” Who does that bring to mind? Of course, the Visitors (hence the title), after promising things like universal health care and peace in a one world government, turn out to be totally evil. They attempt to seize control of the media, favoring those who don’t challenge them or ask probing questions about their real agenda, which turns out to be the annihilation of humanity. The heroes are everyday people, who form a grass roots resistance movement.

Maybe they should have renamed it to … “O”

  6. “Do not adjust your television set. We control the picture. You have now entered The Outer Limits!”

I ran into Lloyd Bochner at a screening, about a year before he passed away. We had mututal friends. He had a long and varied career but he told me “That episode of The Twilight Zone is one thing EVERYBODY knows about.”

  7. Didn’t ABC give up their prime time programming to feature the fraudulent “townhall health debate?” I seem to remember that it had the entire audience previously selected by ABC in order to achieve a favorable result, and that there were plants all over the place.

  10. So what? I haven’t watched the “big” networks in years, and damn little else on TV. Not only because the major networks are thinly-disguised mouthpieces for the Democratic Party, but also because, quite frankly, there have been very few shows on worth watching, IMO. In fact, over the last twelve years or so, I have followed exactly four TV series – Stargate: SG1, Andromeda, Stargate: Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica. Throw in a few documentary programs here and there and that is the sum total of my TV watching over the last decade or so.

Poor Ted’s a little behind the curve.

  12. I am proud to say, not one of those shows has tarnished my TV screen. The only TV show in recent years that was a “must see” was The Shield, which was a fast paced,well-written show in a similar way to the first 2 seasons of The Sopranos before David Chase got greedy and slowed the whole thing down. Also Deadwood, but I saw the whole thing via Netflix at my own pace. So how can I boycott something I don’t watch, anyway?

Same here. We’re going to be totally out of it, everyone else all programmed and spouting same shit. We’ll be looking around and it’ll be the Children of the Damned everywhere.. or zombies!

  14. The people who do not watch the network shows are not the problem. It is the people who do watch those shows that have the power to cancel your vote that are the problem.

  16. On the one hand, we know the story, spoiler tag for anyone, they are lizards, than again, it has
Morena Baccarin of Firefly and Stargate as the standin for Jane Badler, so I’m torn.

  17. At least Camille Paglia, Obama supporter though she is, hasn’t been reprogrammed.

The mainstream media’s failure to honestly cover last month’s mass demonstration in Washington, D.C. was a disgrace. The focus on anti-Obama placards (which were no worse than the rabid anti-LBJ, anti-Reagan or anti-Bush placards of leftist protests), combined with the grotesque attempt to equate criticism of Obama with racism, simply illustrated why the old guard TV networks and major urban daily newspapers are slowly dying. Only a simpleton would believe what they say.

  25. re: #23 krusher

Part of my point is that the so-called “Mainstream Media” is bleeding readers/viewers at an ever-increasing rate. Stunts like this simply speed up the decline and inevitable demise of the MSM (or, as some call it, the Left Wing Media).

    Rusty Bill (b1bb16)

  26. JEA,

Not sure about the others, but my point would be that this is not an appropriate role for government. Church, sure. Service organization, absolutely. Gummint? Not so much.

That is, after all, why we call it “charity” and “volunteer work.” You DO know what the word “volunteer” means, don’t you?

And I am surprised that a liberal would allow their child to participate in such a racist, sexist, homophobic organization as the BSA. Do you do “deprogramming” after each meeting?

  27. the “Visitors”

    Yes, that grabbed your attention.

Now wasn’t there a “Monkees” episode where someone was trying to take over the world by broadcasting this hypnotic eye (sort of like the CBS symbol) on all television stations, and Peter saved the day because his brain wasn’t developed enough to fall for it? (Did you know that Peter got the job when his friend Stephen Stills told him about it? They wouldn’t hire Stills because his receding hairline made him look too old.)

Does anyone here think that a lefty like JEA would have a kid in Boy Scouts ? Come on.

    Nice try, though.
