Garth Brooks
[Guest post by DRJ]
Garth Brooks retired 9 years ago from his country music career but he’s returning for a series of weekend concerts in Las Vegas:
“Brooks has three daughters — 17, 15 and 13 — to whom he’s devoted, and he told [Las Vegas hotel-owner Steve] Wynn he wanted to make sure he was home in Oklahoma to be with his children until the last one graduates from high school. So Wynn got Brooks a plane; the singer will work one show Fridays, two shows on Saturdays and one Sundays, and be back home for Monday morning.
“Did I tell you about the plane?” Brooks asked, more than once, when reporters inquired how he would pull things off.
The Vegas engagement is not a kickoff to a tour, according to spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer.
“If he tours again, it still won’t be until his youngest goes to college,” Seltzer told CNN via text message.
Brooks stressed that situation at the press conference. He won’t be recording new albums or touring, he said: “The only place you’ll see me is here.”
I like Garth but I hope he leaves Chris at home in Oklahoma.

Mr. Garth was all about serenading our dirty socialist douchebag president at his inauguration. Gack. I think he might could be a stupid man. Just warbles kinda purty now and then.
Also Vegas is a loser destination for unimaginative disproportionately alcoholic losers what can’t think of for real travel plans. But every time I say I’m not going back something comes up. I hate that.
happyfeet (f62c43) — 10/15/2009 @ 8:37 pmThat whole Chris Gains phase he was going through still doesn’t make any sense to me. Hopefully it will remain a bad memory and never be brought back.
Greg (d9fcad) — 10/15/2009 @ 8:39 pmI used to really enjoy Garth, until that Gaines thingie whatever that was, which made me kind of forget about what I used to enjoy.
JD (3086d2) — 10/15/2009 @ 8:50 pmVegas is the world’s largest trailer park: a monument to white trash gone mad.
redc1c4 (fb8750) — 10/15/2009 @ 9:26 pmI have friends coming over from England next month and they were debating whether to visit Lost Wages, I live in AZ so it’s a short trip. I said you have to visit LV once in your life, if only to get your Vegas story, on which you can dine out, for the rest of your life.
Gazzer (22ecdc) — 10/15/2009 @ 10:49 pmAlso, to my knowledge, it is the only place to see “The Amazing Johnathon”, and that alone is worth the trip.
My husband’s ex-wife had a similar routine…..when the kids were home (weekends, predominantly)she was “working” (getting blind drunk was work for her). The kids are in school during the week, they have staff and he is married…..so home time with the kids would occur during the weekend when Brooks is working in Las Vegas…..are we really this stupid?

beer 'n pretzels (932ce1) — 10/16/2009 @ 6:58 amI don’t like any of this generation of country and western singers and not most of the previous one, either.
nk (df76d4) — 10/16/2009 @ 7:12 amHmm, another reason not to visit Vegas. I was there overnight on a trip to Colonel Cooper’s place in Paulden AZ, but drove straight back on the return trip…
The memorable part of that trip was at the ranch.
Red County Pete (1a819e) — 10/16/2009 @ 7:22 amI never really cottoned to that Shania Twain one. My brother and his wife are good at finding good cheesy country musics.
happyfeet (f62c43) — 10/16/2009 @ 8:06 amFunny thing about that Chris Gaines song that is that it charted high before the dj’s started letting the Garth out of the bag during their sly intros and exitos. In the end, the guiding principle is don’t mess with Texas[or OK, in this case], or your fan base. Transparency alert: I enjoyed some of each side of Brooks and his No Gaines, No Pains experiment. I did like baseball Garth, too. Maybe it’s just my friends in low places…or that I don’t listen too much to the lyrics, just the beat. Typical of a dancer. Let’s go, girls.
political agnostic (3a617e) — 10/16/2009 @ 11:25 amGarth should stay retired as far as I am concerned. I think I need a Jack on the rocks and a Del Reeves truck drivin’ tune.
Oh and JD is still a racist.
BT (74cbec) — 10/16/2009 @ 2:39 pmBT – Did I mention I met Ernie Banks this week? I tried to email you, but it got kicked back.
JD (769f99) — 10/16/2009 @ 2:44 pmJD No S**t!!! that is cool. I’m sorry the email kicked back. I have not changed anything. I still owe you lunch. I am not sure how to do this email thing without giving away the store so to speak. Any ideas let me know.
