Poland Recently Criminalized Justifying Pedophilia

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:08 am

I already knew that Poland had recently passed a law requiring chemical castration for pedophiles. But I didn’t know about this part:

Polish MPs have passed legislation making it obligatory to chemically castrate certain sex offenders.

Under the law anyone found guilty of raping children under 15, or close relatives, will be given drugs to lower their sex drive. . . . They were part of a bill that also increases jail terms for incest and paedophilia, and criminalises any attempt to justify paedophilia.

I wonder what the foreign minister’s wife thinks about this.

  2. Mmm, i would like to read that law.

It does fit with a pattern in many countries of limited freedom of speech, of saying a few attitudes are so far beyond the pale that you can go to jail for them. the most obvious example is that it is illegal to be a nazi in germany. Or for that matter, in Honduras, it is not only illegal (under their constitution) to say that the President shouldn’t be term-limited, but it also immediately takes away your citizenship if you say it (note to Obama admin: the last persident of Honduras did exactly that, among other things).

For me i tend to think you let people speak freely. Lincoln once said it was better to be silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. So bluntly i want Applebaum to speak freely. i want us all to know how broken her moral compass is. its useful.

Of course if its germany and we are talking about naziism, that seems to be sui generis (a one of a kind situation, for you non-lawyers). given their history, yes, maybe it should be just plain illegal to be a nazi in germany. And there has been in american doctrine a defacto concept for a while that you are free to believe in anything, except to believe in curtailing core political freedoms. that view has fallen out of favor, but it was palpable in earlier jurisprudence.

Btw, exit question… does this mean that the Polish government, in protesting the Polanski arrest, should be thrown in jail? just wondering.

  3. Anne Applebaum is some kind of pro-child rapist cutout. Damn this is depraved. Does she still have a job … has anyone heard?

  4. Criminalising Free Speech is bad.

It is why Hate Crime laws are so pernicious to me.

Calling people names or screaming bad name is not criminal.

It is critical for all people to understand this, right or left.

If you murder, you murder. Who cares what the motivation was.

  5. Seriously. Kind of scary to see so many societies pursuing this and similar anti-Freedom paths.

Eat what you want to eat.

Say what you want to say.

Wanna smoke, I get it, like minded folks should be able to freely get together in public and do so.

    These people are insane.

  6. There is actually some science behind the concept of chemical castration for pedophiles.

Journal of sex & marital therapy. 2001 Jan-Feb;27(1):45-55.
“Treatment of paraphilia with luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonists.” by Briken P, Nika E, Berner W.
Department of Sexology, Clinic of Psychiatry & Psychotherapy of the University of
Hamburg, Martinistrasse 25, 20246 Hamburg, Germany.
Up to now there have been no published results of therapy of paraphilia (for example, pedophilia or sadism) and sexual aggressive impulsiveness with luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonists in the German-speaking
countries. After a short introduction about physiologic features and the present state of investigations in treatment of paraphilia with LHRH agonists we describe 11 patients who were treated with the LHRH agonist Leuprolide Acetate over a period of 12 months. The patients showed no tendency toward sexually aggressive behavior and reported an evident reduction of penile erection, ejaculation, masturbation, sexually deviant impulsiveness, and fantasies. One patient died from suicide. In combination with other treatments, LHRH Agonists seem to be a very promising alternative to cyproterone acetate and its possible carcinogene effects.

Polanski would probably be wise to stay out of Poland. This treatment has been blocked here by left wing judges who consider such therapy to be a violation of the pedophile’s civil rights. That doesn’t seem to be the case there.

Interestingly enough, these same drugs, and the hormones they influence, are being investigated in the treatment of autism. A deficiency may allow the perpetrator to objectivize the victim. Just as autism blocks human relationships.

And the first comment wins the thread. Take away Applebaum’s boot-licking of elites, and there’s nothing of her left.

Does it grow hair? My testosterone has done only two good things for me — it has helped me get a beautiful wife and a wonderful daughter. But otherwise, it has only caused me trouble. And at age 53 … I’d rather have a full head of shoulder length hair again.

  9. I don’t know, nk. I remember many years ago when the only treatment for coronary disease that worked was estrogen. I remember one fellow asking if he’d rather die from a coronary than have to buy a bra.

  10. Will Polanski be charged with jumping bail when he’s brought back to the US?

Or is jumping bail not “jumping jumping”?

  11. Limiting free speech is always problematic because of how is it decided who gets to do the limiting.

But there are some things that one would hope a society would not tolerate, whether by legal means or in effect by social isolation. Speech justifying or encouraging pedophilia should be one. A problem is, where on the scale of overtly encouraging pedophilia would you draw the line. The most specific and detailed, overt sexualizing of minors, etc.

  12. Speaking of Anne Applebaum, did you catch this line:

“For the record, I will note that I mentioned my husband’s job in a column as recently as last week, and that when he first entered the Polish government three years ago I wrote a column about that too.” (emphasis added)

Um, he first entered government as Deputy Defense Minister in 1992. I remember reading his columns in the Wall Street Journals at the time.

  13. Now here is an interesting question; does that law have extraterritorial application to Polish citizens convicted elsewhere of similar crimes after they have served their time?

  14. Does that mean Obama’s safe school czar, Jennings, I believe his name is, covered up for a pedophile, and praised the founder of the North American Man Boy Love Association, Harry Hay, in 1997 as a man who inspired him.
