Have you ever noticed the consistency of Obama’s smile? Eric Spiegelman has:

Never underestimate the power of a smile. After all, look what it did for her.

  1. Grade schools all over America will be giving their students the cardboard cutout with that smile to take home. The teaching materials accompanying the cutouts will talk about how the students can make Obama part of their family.

The little kids will just learn to sing songs to their cutouts.

  4. I saw this earlier today and I thought it was funny and interesting and telling, in a certain way.

Look, President Obama is a very charismatic person. He is, without a doubt, the greatest political communicator since President Reagan. He has touched and inspired millions of people and that can’t be disputed.

For example, I was watching the Bravo channel tonight and I saw the most disturbing advertisement I believe I’ve ever seen. It was for some internet merchandiser and they were selling T-shirts. Nothing wrong with that.

But the T-shirts were emblazoned with the President holding an American flag — again, nothing wrong with that — leading a group of happy, smiling people.

There also was a slogan along the lines of “Help the President lead us to a brighter future.” That quote is not exact. I wish I had written it down, Nonetheless it captures the intent of the message on the T-shirt. You can also purchase a shirt with the First Lady doing the same.

But it was all so Soviet. Hasn’t anyone else noticed this?

  5. Nothin’ wrong with this. I guess we’ve all seen Glenn’s explanation of how it works when you’re in front of a camera all the time. It’s a pretty damn good smile, actually.

That this guy doesn’t believe in promoting the interests of the USA, despite swearing to defend the constitution that makes him the USA’s chief diplomat and executive and commander, is a problem, however. That and the spending.

  6. I think Obama lives by the credo “The most important quality is sincerity. Once you learn to fake that, you’ve got it made.”
He would have done well in the world of perpetual campaigning in the House or the Senate. Unfortunately for him (and us), he decided to follow his presidential aspirations. Unlike sincerity, it is difficult to fake leadership.

Anyone paying attention during the campaign should have noticed the Soviet-style iconography in the posters, logos, etc.

Yea, he has a nice smile. But so do some of the most beguiling and clever salemen of used cars or aluminum siding (or swamp land in Florida or bridges in Brooklyn). Personally, I tend to wince when I observe Obama on many occasions, particularly when he starts talking forcefully. He ends up sounding a bit like Al Gore doing his notorious preacher-man routine, tinged with some of his “black dude” dialect also seeping through.

  9. Still, you’ve got to give them credit. The Dems came up with a much cleaner looking candidate than their last president. The very first time I saw Bill Clinton speak I thought, “This guy is a sleazeball.” Obama has a much better face for the job of fooling more of the people more of the time.

  10. […] Obama could have used that opportunity to explain this is part of free speech in America and that it also happened to President Bush, but I doubt he did that. My guess is he just smiled. […]
