More on the Praise Obama Song

I didn’t realize the New Jersey schoolchildren who sang praises to President Obama performed two pro-Obama songs at a school assembly:

“The root of the controversy was in February, back when gripes about freshly inaugurated President Barack Obama were still mostly hushed.

That month, a group of smiley and fidgety students at B. Bernice Young School sang a medley of two short songs at an assembly praising the president. The first song begins, “Mmm, mmm, mmm, Barack Hussein Obama/He said that all must lend a hand/To make this country strong again.”

The second one was set to “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and included the refrain, “Hooray, Mr. President.”

While the performance is seven months old, the widespread outrage is new and came about because of the discovery of a YouTube video of the performance.”

I thought this was a classroom activity but apparently what’s been posted was a rehearsal for a school-wide performance.

  1. Good Lord – is this guy following the Dear Leader script to the nth degree, or what?

  2. Seemed to me that was a pretty good news report.

This story clears up the question of her visit in march:

“School district officials said Carney-Nunes appeared at an assembly and book signings in the district in March, but that the Obama song was not performed then.”

I wonder if she got a nice check from the District for her “efforts of educating our young through reading”, as she might say.

  4. LOL. Instapundit linked another report here (an AP report) which contains this:

The source of the video is not entirely clear. In Malkin’s column, she said it was posted in June on the YouTube channel of author Charisse Carney-Nunes, who wrote the children’s book “I Am Barack Obama.”

The song medley was presented to Carney-Nunes, who had been invited to the school, as a demonstration of a project the children had put together, her public relations firm said in a statement.

“Charisse feels it is unfortunate that an event put together with sincere intentions to encourage literacy while celebrating the contributions of African Americans to our great nation has become political fodder and hopes cooler heads will prevail,” the hoverFly media statement said.

The “presented” is a little fuzzy. Was she just presented with a disc or did they perform the two and it was videotaped then. Maybe not the videotaping, but I find it hard to believe they didn’t perform it while she was there for an assembly and book signing.

  5. Charisse was involved in another furor a few years ago about a different book — “Nappy.” Parents wanted the book banned because they thought it was too insensitive.

  6. Well, I’m sure that the school had the chirren singing songs of praise for GW Bush in honor of him freeing 25 million people from the mad dictator Saddam Hussein.

    Right?

  7. They have to start the training at a young age. After all, Obama knows that like his heroes Castro and Chavez, these kids will be able to vote for Obama when they turn 18.

If she really wanted to encourage literacy, she should have provided the class with 25 copies of McGuffey Readers. At least by reading those books they would be about 7 grades ahead of the rest of their peers.
