A Message to Coach Leach from Beldar

Filed under: Sports — DRJ @ 6:51 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Beldar doesn’t have time to post as much as he used to but fortunately he still posts on the important topics:

“Texas Tech head football coach Mike Leach threw a middle-sized fit Saturday night during Tech’s 34-24 loss to the Texas Longhorns, insisting that the officials had improperly frustrated an attempted trick play by the Red Raiders.”

Beldar proceeds to describe the last play before halftime, identify the NCAA (and NFL) rule, analyze how it applies to this play, opine on the implications for the game of football, and make a suggestion to Coach Leach.

Texas lawyers love football.

  1. I still love Leach.

My Colts have had the ball for less than 1/4 of the game, and still have a chance to win.

  2. Alright, Peyton is a f*cking stud. Take that, wildcat!

  3. I love Leach too, and would Beldar be as quick to point out regulation rules if this were Mack Brown?

  4. CorgiMom,

I’m sure he would because he’s an honorable person who calls them like he sees them, not like he feels them. That’s one of the main reasons I like to read Beldar. As for me, I’m a Horns fan who likes Leach more than Mack. Mack’s a great coach and guy and he’s grown into his job with poise and great ability, but Leach is one-of-a-kind.

  5. It is pretty difficult to score 27 points while having the ball for les than 15 minutes.

  6. When I was in high school in Texas twenty some-odd years ago the team ran a trick play one time, where they took a knee with about 20 seconds left to go, and then as the other team was running off the field before the clock ran out, they lined up and snapped it and threw for an easy touchdown. I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if something similar worked today – the other team probably wouldn’t be running off the field in college or the pros, but would likely not be paying as much attention.

  7. Best game with trick plays: Boise State vs OU.

  9. I just wish Texas and Tech could both lose at the same time.

    But, that’s just me.

  10. I look forward to seeing the Red Raiders thrash the Longhorns up here in Lubbock next year.

  11. Mike — They probably will. I’ve been to many games in Lubbock and the Red Raiders are hard to beat at home.

Ag80 — I like the Aggies, the Red Raiders, the Horned Frogs and all the Texas schools. Can’t we all just get along?

  12. JD: Indy had the ball for 14min and 53 seconds 🙂 the lowest total for a winning team since ’71 or so.

    Peyton is the man.

(disclaimer: Cowboys fan and yea that game sucked)
