ACORN audit already a joke

Rocked by a continuing stream of scandals, ACORN is trying to pass them off as the “indefensible” acts of a few employees, but promised an “independent review.”

Who will conduct the “independent review?” Round up the usual suspects:

The Council includes many prominent Democrats, including the man who helped President Obama Transition Team, John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress; former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend; Andrew Stern, International President of the Service Employees International Union; and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros.

Cisneros, who worked regularly with ACORN as HUD Secretary, would later plead guilty to lying to the FBI to cover up a political embarrassment. Perfect choice. Townsend is so inependent that she called the stories of ACORN’s frequent involvement in voter fraud a “desperate smokescreen maneuver” masking an extensive coast-to-coast GOP push to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters in 2008. No bias there. Stern heads SEIU, which has a very cozy relationship with ACORN. How cozy? ACORN controls or significantly dominates several SEIU chapters. And Stern hand-picked ACORN’s Wade Rathke to direct SEIU’s nationwide organizing projects. He could not be more independent. And Podesta runs the Soros-funded Center for American Progress, which has been coordinating the public defense of ACORN this summer. He might be even more independent than Andy Stern.

Glad to see that ACORN is taking this all so seriously.

  1. Likely results of “independent” review – 1) a series of isolated incidents by rogue employees, and 2) RethugliKKKans are racist.

  2. Who better to investigate corruption and illegal activity than those most intimately familiar with it? If they can’t find any, ACORN must be clean as a whistle, right?

  3. I think they should get Charley Rangel on that committee as he is an expert on tax evasion.

  4. And the real, real, real issue here is the tax evasion. ACORNS willingness to assist people in evading taxes has got to be investigated.

  5. What no Ward Churchill? I hear he is looking for work. JD is a racist!!!! And so am I!!!!!

  6. So it looks like any news medium using the phrase ‘independent review’ outside of scare quotes is, well, in cahoots with ACORN.

Can’t we get some really independent news purveyors to investigate and report on this sordid organization? Or are chinchilla coats the only sign of journalistic integrity this year?

  7. This is sort of like Obama’s people investigating themselves in the Blago mess last December and then pronouncing themselves clean. Works on morons who don’t know any better, but if there are actually any independent board members they should be insisting on outsiders for liability reasons.

  8. Sex Fees Not Deductible Medical Expenses, Tax Court Rules

I bet Henry Cisneros already knew that.

  9. I didn’t think I could be shocked, but maddoggit, I am. For all intents and purposes, they’ve turned over inspecting competency to the consultant firm of Howard, Fine, & Howard (not to be confused with Howard Fineman).

I didn’t think they could be any more reliant on the continuing complicity of the MSM (or, as Glenn Beck re-dubbed them today, the “Fringe Media”), but they are — ACORN is daring them to say “The foxes weasels are guarding the henhouse,” knowing that the Jake Tappers of the industry will be drowned out by deafening silence.

  10. LN, I think that company may have merged with Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe.

  11. Why not just let MoDo and Dr hodean do the investigation. We could write the likely findings for them already.

  14. #9 — “Fringe media”. Perfect!

Also, I think it would be a good idea to use the words “community organizers” every time ACORN is mentioned. This would emphasise the link to Obama.

In light of the San Bernardino video, it’s been discovered that Cheatem has been bought out by a new partner. It’s now Dewey, Killem, & Howe.

  18. Well, JD, you have to admit, there’s no conceivable way we could criticize ACORN or Obama without being extremely racist. Ms. Dowd can hear in her head ‘boy’ and probably the n-word, so that means she’s not racist because she called us racist for what’s in her head.

    Are you following?

If ACORN was a paid preparer, any return listing ACORN as a paid preparer should be audited as well. Federal and State.

  23. I always thought it was from being dropped on my head at birth, but I should have realized that those colorful lead paint chips that my parents put on my cereal were not actually food. I am slow on the uptake from time to time.

  25. This is sort of like Obama’s people investigating themselves in the Blago mess last December and then pronouncing themselves clean.

I would like to be a member of the Joint Commission team accrediting the Stroger hospital.

They do seem to have some problems with aspirin overdoses.

Christopher Kelly, 51, of Burr Ridge was sitting up on a gurney while being interviewed by the officer, Welch said. Based on what Kelly told the officer, police are “fairly certain” he tried to kill himself, Welch said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office performed an autopsy but said the results are not complete.

Police found “pills” in Kelly’s SUV. Welch would not say whether they were prescription or over-the-counter medication.

He was doing well until he was transfered to Stroger Hospital.

Oak Forest Hospital does not have a trauma unit, but doctors were able to stabilize Kelly. Doctors later decided Kelly could be better treated at Stroger Hospital in Chicago, where Kelly was taken about 5:15 a.m. Saturday and died at 10:46 a.m., Cook County hospitals officials said.

” Kelly could be better treated at Stroger Hospital”

I think they call that a euphemism.
