Patterico's Pontifications

August Best Traffic Month Since the Election

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:20 am

637, 967 page views. And it’s the month that I have posted the least in ages.

Are more people visiting the less I post? (Don’t answer that!)

Seriously, though, this is heartening to see:

August 2009

And I have to memorialize this before it disappears:

August 13, 2009

Without the help of the guest bloggers here, this site would be largely dead. I am eternally grateful to DRJ, Karl, and Jack Dunphy — and to Stashiu, who keeps a close eye on matters behind the scenes.

I think I mentioned recently that I have a new assignment that takes up almost all the time not already taken up by family and sleep.

But I have no intention of quitting entirely. For one thing, if a blogger stops writing, he becomes irrelevant. And this is no time to quit — not when our country faces as great a threat to its well-being as we have seen in quite some time.

In the meantime, I’m heartened by how well the site has been doing. Earlier this year I was concerned that I had been (falsely) painted as somehow dishonorable/nonconservative/choose your insult. Evidently my concern was misplaced, if the numbers are any indication. No matter how busy I get, I’ll still carve out a little time to keep the bastards honest. And hopefully, at some point, I’ll have a little more time than I have had over the past few weeks.

Along those lines, I still intend to follow up with Carol Williams about that story I blogged about yesterday. Stay tuned for that, and as always, thanks for reading. And if you like it here, spread the word. That’s the best thing you can do for me and for the site.

  1. DRJ’s Pontifications? I kid, I’m a kidder. Well done. The commenters add a lot to this site with well reasoned discussions, the occasional skirmish and some trolls. Like being back in High School, really.

  2. DRJ’s Pontifications?

She probably should get top billing, huh? She does the lion’s share of the work, after all.

You are your own worst straight-man!

Congratulations on all you have accomplished, and what will follow in the future.
Plus, I hope you can make some progress on cleaning up the streets of Long Beach, and environs.

  4. Many congrats on this achievement. When they lay the LAT finally to rest, the Tombstone should mention your esteemed contributions!

  5. Happyfeet, the Adjective Laden Dana and the other commentators keep me coming back. The posts are OK.

Sorry, I lost your Pay Pal address before I sent the cash. Can you email it to me again?

  7. Part of it might be the “blood in the water” factor.

The Obama administration is crashing and burning, and we know that the newspapers and the networks aren’t going to tell us anything about it.

  8. Patterico’s posts are what brought me here and while I wish he could post several times a day, that just means I look forward even more to reading when he does post. It’s always worth the just-slightly-longer wait.

But as good as his, Karl’s and Jack Dunphy’s posts are — not to mention the folks who post at The Jury — it’s the commenters who make me want to come back each day. I like to read and think about your comments and share a few laughs and frustrations. I’m very grateful Patterico is willing to continue to provide this forum.

  9. I discovered your site when it was a link on prison planet, have been a fan ever since, visit daily . Curious , what is your opinion on 9-11?

  11. #8 DRJ:

I like to read and think about your comments and share a few laughs and frustrations. I’m very grateful Patterico is willing to continue to provide this forum.

I am also very grateful to Patterico for providing this forum, and also delight in the comments. The regulars like Jack Dunphy and Karl are superb.

But I have to admit that a large part of the draw for me is that Patterico’s is where DRJ is.

  12. I don’t really remember what made me come here….but I do make this an every day read, even more than once a day….I wish I could reply a bit more, and some days I might (not that anyone wants to read me, but….)…..I do really like everyone who gets here, including those I will disagree with who will post their beliefs in a reasonable debate…

To our host: may your numbers rise no matter what….

To all: the debate is what will keep America strong….

  13. Congrats. Great characters. It’s a fun read.

  14. The numbers for August will probably turn out to be even better than that, once all the data still stuck in Super Cache is counted.

  15. Congrats. I sure enjoy most of you. If you are not sure if you are in that group, you are not 😉

  17. Love this place. Put my local weather and some headline news up on top and I’ll make it my home page.

  18. Let’s keep in mind that the ginormous spike was Patterico’s blogging on the phony doctor at Sheila Jackson-Lee’s town hall. Kudos to him.

    Karl (246941)

  19. And though I think I’ve mentioned it before, it’s worth repeating that one of the main reasons I accepted Pat’s offer to guest-blog here was that this site seemed to share a fair number of commenters with my prior perch at Protein Wisdom, and that I wanted to write for this audience.

    Karl (246941)

  20. Let’s keep in mind that the ginormous spike was Patterico’s blogging on the phony doctor at Sheila Jackson-Lee’s town hall. Kudos to him.

Let’s keep in mind that (as I have said previously) that story was handed to me on a silver platter by a reader who wishes to remain anonymous. Kudos are due to that reader, far more than to me.

    Patterico (cc3b34)

  21. Congrats. Great site. The Lee meeting was the big spike in visits, then?

    Patricia (7aaa75)

  22. I keep coming here for the freebies.

Patterico has the best frequent commenter plan on the intartubes, but he hasn’t posted about it in a while.

The check is in the mail.

  24. Scott, you mean you know someone who posts there? *ducks* (right into Dana’s Jimmy Choo… doh!)

  25. I blame Patterico for my blogging addiction. I was surfing when I found this place and got stuck. Then Patterico went and plugged (insert adj here) Dana’s site, several times, and I had to go find out what the nonsense was. And I got stuck there, too.

I blame Patterico for my addictions to two different blog sites. And I don’t want to be cured.

Yet another reason I trust and respect Patterico – he doesn’t take credit when he shouldn’t, and is compelled by honesty to give others, even anonymous folk, their due credit.

    Dana (863a65)

  27. I don’t get here as often as I like but I very much enjoy the reasoned responses (the truth) you give to what the lying LA Times is spinning out there for idiots who buy their lies! I look forward to the day they along with every other Times but the Washington one are empty buildings and all the liberals are out of work!

Thanks for your great work Patterico.

    Jaded (2dcf17)

  28. Congrats, Patterico. You do an amazing amount of work, with excellent results. All the posters are exceptional, but without a captain that’s paying attention, any ship will founder.

Oh, by the way, Jaded, as long as there’s taxation, liberals will have jobs.

    Apogee (e2dc9b)

While I can’t blame our host for my addiction here, I can say that this site just hugely impressed me, not only for the clarity and scope of the arguments, but for the design itself. It’s remarkably reader-friendly, and graphically both simple and sound. I confess to having stolen been guided in part by the blog design.

  31. Considering your statement:

maybe it’s time to get rid of the seemingly obligatory [Guest post by DRJ] at the top of their articles. We can see the post author’s name anyway, right below the headline. Perhaps if Stashiu changed that text from grey to black . . . .
