Van Jones Open Thread

Filed under: Obama — DRJ @ 7:57 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Van Jones is profane about Republicans, but he says he’s sorry for it.

Van Jones is a truther, but he says he didn’t mean it.

Van Jones is Obama’s green jobs czar, but some say he won’t be after Monday.

H/T Hot Air.

UPDATE 9/4/2009: Van Jones is a “Free Mumia” supporter? If so, how long until he says he isn’t?

  1. People at Tea Party rallies and town hall meetings were yelling “I want that Communist out of the White House” even BEFORE the Van Jones circus. What next?

  2. I don’t know that I can say it better than television’s Andy Levy.

But I will note that two groups formed by Jones blamed the US for 9/11.

  3. They got Van coming up with answers, all of which he denies. He said it again but could he please re-phrase it? As if he could ever hide. Last time la luna… Van lights his torch and waves it for his new job come Monday I think.

  4. Jones is basically trying a version of the defense former Clinton appointee Joshua Steiner used during testimony to Congress, when he claimed he lied to his diary about conversations he was being questioned about.

In this case, Jones lied to his signature, when he put it down on the 9/11 Truther petition. Might work if he was just a pro-Obama Astroturfer leading some support group, but as an appointee of the president, it’s not flying anywhere (including into the WTC or the Pentagon, Vance).

Bet Robert Gibbs is going to be the happiest man in Washington that there’s a three-day weekend coming up, because Friday probably isn’t going to be fun in the press room, now that ABC has joined Fox in covering the story.

  5. Golly, could we finally have found an Obama appointee that is too extreme even for “mainstream” liberals?

Then again, if you search for “Van Jones” at the LA Times website there are only two returns, one for his flare-up with Glenn Beck and a quote from an LA resident who is likely different from our Green/Red Jobs Tsar (I like that spelling better than “czar”). I don’t suppose they will cover this until Commissar Jones is forced out, at which point Tim Rutten will write a column blasting Fox News and talk radio.

  6. Van sounds like he would fit in well at Trinity United Methodist Church. No wonder Obama and his cronies liked him.

  7. Wowee gee, looks like September isn’t shaping up any better than July and August did for the adminstration. Pew and Rasmussen—how loooow can it go?

  8. daley has a point. This truther business is disguting and should be unacceptable in the US gov, but Obama was in that whacky church for 20 years, and they believe things as crazy as thruthers, and no doubt are truthers. AIDS invented by the CIA? Just as nutty.

Obama is much more a peer of Van Jones than he is for Sec Gates or Hillary Clinton.

On the “some say” link, one of the Fox News analysts repeatedly equivocates being a truther with being a birther. I don’t understand that at all. One is insane, and the other is a bit paranoid. One requires a massive conspiracy, and the other requires a small conspiracy. Both are very unlikely, but one is fundamentally horrible and the other is just not.

That’s why I kinda bristle when ‘birthers’ are called that. It’s clearly an attempt to put them on par with truthers, and that’s wrong. Not every retarded conspiracy theory is as awful as trutherism.

  9. I have no idea why comedians complain that there is no joke material on Obama. You can’t make shit like this up and the gaffes just keep on coming.

  10. It is a bit strange that there is so much OVERT socialism in the Obama administration.

  11. Yeah, what kind of jackass is still an avowed communist? Someone who doesn’t know or care about human rights history? It’s like being a Nazi because Hitler did some ancillary good thing. Communism is associated with the very cruelest level of suffering in world history. Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao… all of them were worse than Hitler or… gasp… ‘asshole’ republicans (to use Van Jones’s term).

What’s Obama gonna be like when he realizes he’s a one time president? I guess he probably is not capable of that kind of self honesty, thank God.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  12. Is there a radical marxist activists that Obama doesn’t know?

From going to church for 20 yrs. listening to “God Dam# America” and “the CIA invented AIDS and infected the black community with it” from his “moral compass” and “spiritual leader” Rev. wright
to starting his campaign in the living room of the weatherman domestic terrorist Ayers, Obama has surrounded himself with Socialist activists.

Frank Marshall Davis is a poet that is openly communist and an admitted rapist.
Obama calls him one of the greatest influences of his life in one of his books.

Obama had campaign offices displaying Che flags
and his top Internet guru was an admitted communist.

We have the head of the communist party here in America Sam Webb happy as can be about Obama’s policies of taking over the banks, private businesses, and health care.

    FARC loves Obama

    FARC:
From the two lap top computers obtained during an ambush back in early March:

According to information obtained, FARC Terrorists were hoping and expecting that Barack Obama would win the US elections in November because he was most aligned with the Colombian Marxist group.

    Fidel loves Obama:

    Fidel Castro:
He likes Hillary too. Last summer he was urging Clinton and Obama to team up:

“The word today is that an apparently unbeatable ticket could be Hillary for president and Obama as her running mate,” he wrote in an editorial column on U.S. presidents published on Tuesday by Cuba’s Communist Party newspaper, Granma.

    Code Pink loves Obama

    Jodi Evans

Jodie Evans, co-founder of the anti-war group Code Pink, is a huge Obama supporter who has personally given his campaign the federal limit ($2,300) and continues to collect big bucks—$50,000 and counting—from friends and associates in an effort to help the Illinois senator, a favorite among Latin American socialist leaders, move into the White House.

We have the front page of Russian Pravda proclaiming “American Capitalism gone with a whimper” in relation to Obama’s domestic policies.

China News: Obama’s Economic Reform Is In Conformity With Marxist Doctrine

    http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/07/china-news-obamas-economic-reform-is-in.html

This way of doing things is in conformity with the Marxist doctrine of the Communist Manifesto in which Marx foretold a capitalist financial crisis. The American Foreign Policy magazine offered a very Marxist “prescription” suggesting that the “whole financial sector be turned into a public utility” — perhaps one could say, “centralization of credit in the hands of the State by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.” (Communist Manifesto)…

One of the reasons why all these associations are crucial in determining who Obama really is and what he plans on doing, it that he states himself that he chooses his friends “carefully”:

This is from p. 100 of Obama’s “Dreams From My Father”:

To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist Professors and the structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets. We smoked cigarettes and wore leather jackets. At night,in the dorms,we discussed neocolonialism,Franz Fanon,Eurocentrism, and patriarchy. When we ground out our cigarettes in the hallway carpet or set our stereos so loud that the walls began to shake,we were resisting bourgeois society’s stifling constraints. We weren’t indifferent or careless or insecure. We were alienated.

To claim Obama is not a marxist with this much history, facts, associations and policies that reflect his socialist agenda would be like claiming Chavez is a libertarian.

The only people left denying Obama’s socialist agenda is our press and Obama’s loyal sheep.

Jones is just one of many exposed and yet to be exposed marxist helping shape Mr. “Hope and Change’s ” agenda.

  13. It’s like being a Nazi because Hitler did some ancillary good thing.

No Juan, it’s even worse. It’s like being a nazi because you are too damn ignorant to know what Hitler did in Europe and Africa during his reign. And by that I mean willfully ignorant, not blissfully ignorant.

    JVW (d1215a)

  14. Yeah, he likes to play at being a revolutionary, but what Van really likes is money. I predict he will receive a green grant from the Porkulus before the WH door closes on his sorry butt.

    Patricia (7aaa75)

  15. Randy Hayes, founder of the Rainforest Action Network, also apparently signed the same 911 truther statement. If I remember correctly, he was appointed by then Mayor Jerry Brown as Oakland’s “Sustainability Director” in 2004.
The same (current A.G.) Jerry Brown who is likely to be our next Governor.
    One big club, they are…

  16. “…If I have offended anyone with statements I made in the past, I apologize.”

Ahh nothing quells a political firestorm like a non-apology apology. Of course when you add the whole “he didn’t read the TRUTHER petition very carefully …” meme, well then everything is just pixies and unicorns.

  17. It is funny how no one seems to be questioning Van Johnson’s ability to be a ‘green jobs Czar’. What qualifications does this man have that would justify his title and position? Has he ever created any kind of job, green notwithstanding?

Johnson, who became a communist in the 90’s, for Gods sake, probably thinks that communism failed because they didn’t kill enough people, not because of its flaws.

    jack (e383ed)

  18. Where are Obama’s friends that aren’t monsters?

    Juan (bd4b30)

  19. The reason why no one’s questioning his bona fides as a “Green Jobs Czar” is that it was widely assumed he was just another political hack in line to dole out funding for projects to fellow hacks of little to no merit.

    Dmac (a93b13)

  20. That’s not the Van Jones I knew.

    Alta Bob (e53677)

  21. If a GOP president had appointed someone equivalent, this would be a top headline news item for weeks about extremism.

But Obama once again trades on the supine press to cover up his incompetence.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  22. Andy Levy, didn’t he say something about giving Obama, a chance some months back. Van Jones, wants to do what Zawahiri, wouldn’t dream of doing, that is dismantling the entire 21th Century
economic system. He may fail at that, but can we give him half a chance to do do.

    bishop (4e0dda)

  23. Breaking news: Gateway Pundit has found information about a 9/11 truther march in January 2002. Guess who was on the organizing committee? ..bruce..

    bfwebster (2f56b4)

  24. “…Yeah, what kind of jackass is still an avowed communist…”

Especially that type of jackass who announced his affinity for Marxism/Leninism after the fall of the Soviet Union, and the wholesale fleeing from that failed ideology by millions of people throughout the world, with the exception of the Academe-American, naturally.

    AD - RtR/OS! (5b5739)

  25. And yet another reason why this czar system has to go. Either the White House vetted Jones and accepted him with all of the nutty truther background, or they didn’t vet him: the first makes them a bunch of left-wing wackos and the second makes them a bunch of incompetents. Neither of them results in anything or anyone who should be running this country.

  26. Just checked the LA Slimes… Only mention of Van Jones over the past 5 years was Matea Gold’s recent (8/25) account of “Glenn Beck blasts boycott group’s co-founder”. In her article, which features only 2 links, one to Van Jones’ “Color of Change” group and the other to the White House announcement of Jones’s hiring, Gold by selective quoting and emphasis pretty much lets your typical Times reader know that Beck is a hater, and probably a racist, for going after Jones (whose group led the boycott against Beck). “Reporting from New York – Fox News host Glenn Beck used his popular show Monday to attack the background of Van Jones, a White House environmental advisor and co-founder of an African American political advocacy group that organized an advertising boycott of his program.” The apparently Google-adverse or selective Gold, I guess, gives Jones a pass on all his previous activities. It’s not like an actual thinking person would think that Jones was a “radical”, it’s that Glenn Beck thinks he’s “radical.”

  27. I read a statement from a person on another blog stating why do people judge a person for their personal beliefs rather than on the merit of their work? Is that the thinking of the people in America? Reputation is everything. Do you think anyone would ever elect or hire anyone with a past like Van Jones and expect “I apologize” to be sufficient. We are talking about the highest office in the World people. What the hell is Van Jones doiing in the Whitehouse? Demand an answer? He signed that petition and he didn’t read what it actually was insinuating? Would he be hired in a job like you or me and get away with that one? If he is that irresponsible, do you trust this man to lead in the whitehouse? From what I am reading he was associated with Appollo and there is much more. I guess you and I couldn’t get a job in the whitehouse as my resume can’t produce anything unsavory so I would be turned away I suppose

    Julie (63b287)

  28. Van Jones also wants to free convicted cop killer Mumia Abu Jamal. He has no place in any presidential administration.

    Stan Switek (d9d8ce)

  29. That racist crap is getting old and is becoming a smokescreen to what is truth and what is a lie. Glenn Beck didn’t say it, Van Horn did. The advertisers who bailed won’t be getting my buck because if they think that Glenn is a Hater then I suppose those people don’t need the millions and millions of those who agree with Mr. Beck. So I suppose if you want to call Glenn a racist you have that right as well as I have to call Van Jones one also. Now the bottom line is do the advertisers stand for the American people and the truth or do they think they can get by with the few that believe a lie and bottom out?

    Julie (63b287)

  30. This is why the Senate has “advise and consent” oversight of cabinet officers.

How long will they sit still for having their constitutional prerogatives bypassed in such a transparent way?

    mojo (8096f2)

  31. How can one say they didn’t hear what Reverend Wright believed and said after 20 yrs, was too young to know about William Ayres (neighbors I think as well as Tony Rezko) and now wondering what he is going to say about Van Jones? I didn’t believe him when the Reverend Wright story came out and he sure isn’t getting my ear after finding out about Van Jones. Do you notice one thing in common between the two? Van Jones apologizes and states he didn’t read the petition very well and of course who read the healthcare bill before trying to get that approved before anyone could object? Can all these people popping out of nowhere not really know each other and has this ever happened in the US before and if so, believe me, we would have heard about it. Where is the Republican leadership or they too afraid to risk it all and stand up and demand answers? Or have we lost the backbone to question? Do we just sit back and hope this isn’t really what is smack dab in our faces? When I say God bless America, I really really mean it. Last time I checked we were a christian nation. What is this we aren’t? Remember what our founding fathers meant when this country was founded. Do not forget what America stands for and never ever lose your voice. It is vital especially now.

    Heh.

  33. You should really never apologize for saying what you really mean; if you mean what you say, have the cojones to stand by it! And if Mr Jones finds out that he has resigned from his position, I suspect that he will have meant his [insert plural slang term for the sphincter here] comment even more!
