Healthcare Meltdown in the House?

Filed under: Government — DRJ @ 4:34 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Obama Administration staffers, Congressional Democrats, and Speaker Pelosi won’t be having a pleasant weekend:

“House healthcare negotiations dissolved in acrimony on Friday, with Blue Dog Democrats saying they were “lied” to by their Democratic leaders.
***
The seven Blue Dogs on the Energy and Commerce Committee stormed out of a Friday meeting with their committee chairman, Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), saying Waxman had been negotiating in bad faith over a number of provisions Blue Dogs demanded be changed in the stalled healthcare bill.”

Democratic leaders won’t rule out going straight to the House floor for a vote but the Blue Dogs issued “dire warnings” if that happens:

“Waxman simply does not have votes in committee and process should not be bypassed to bring the bill straight to floor,” Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.), the lead Blue Dog negotiator, said on Friday. “We are trying to save this bill and trying to save this party.”

Melancon said there would be 40-45 “solid no” votes from the 52-strong Blue Dogs, among other problems throughout the caucus. And Melancon said there are more Democrats who will vote against the bill.

“If they try to bring it to the floor, I think they’ll find out they have more problems than the Blue Dogs.”

40 votes is the Democrat majority….

  2. Thank you Mr. Chips* for helping divert attention from Obama push to make this happen.

    *Skip “Mr. Chip-On-His Shoulder” Gates.

Now we can have a national dialog on race over beers at the White House.

    Joe (a32cff)

  3. As Obama has to do back flips on Skip “Mr. Chips” Gates, Nancy Pelosi is rolling metal balls in her hand and ranting about strawberries.

    Schadenfreud.

  4. But wait!

    “They won.”

    What’s going on?

    (insert sound of popcorn popping).

  5. Democratic leaders lying? Quelle surprise!

  6. Blue Dog Democrats are so trailer park. What are they huffing gasoline that they don’t get it through their heads what their president is and who those marxist redistributey losers in charge of their party are? If I were Waxman I’d kick them out of negotiations too just so they wouldn’t drool on the conference table. Idiots.

  7. BTW, the people holding up Obama care are, y’know, racists:

Racial overtones also appeared to creep into the intraparty dispute. One African-American Democrat pointed out that the seven Blue Dogs who were holding up the bill in the Energy and Commerce Committee were “a nondiverse group” of white men.

Blue Dogs = White Men. But kudos to the NYT to keep that Democrat anonymous; their check is in the mail.

  9. Lie ? Who you gonna believe ? Me or your lying eyes ?

Obama knows a lot of stuff. LIke all those tonsils being snatched out. And Hirohito surrendering (I saw it on TV). And all those racist cops.

You know, stuff like that. Why would you not believe him ?

    Mike K (2cf494)

  10. Karl (4:54): For what it’s worth, here is a list of the committee members from both parties. I don’t know the race of every person listed, but doesn’t Bobby Rush strike you as a leading candidate for the anonymous African-American Democrat?

    JVW (b1db51)

  11. The Blue Dogs better watch out or Waxman will inhale them with that massive schnozz.

  12. One African-American Democrat pointed out that the seven Blue Dogs who were holding up the bill in the Energy and Commerce Committee were “a nondiverse group” of white men.

What a coincidence–the Congressional Black Caucus is a “nondiverse group” of African-American men and women.

  13. If those 52 blue puppy ones had the courage and perspicacity to make a third party then I think America might could soonly be America again. Anything shy of that they’re just gasoline huffing patsies I think. If I hear anyone call them brave I’m gonna have one of my spells.

  14. I think that they should take their time and get a good solid bill instead of slapping something together.

    spritelywatchdog (a115b2)

  15. Not only does Reid not have the votes, SanFranNan does not either. If they cannot ram something through the House, they are toast.

    JD (584916)

  16. A good solid bill in this regard is one that does not pass.

    JD (584916)

  17. Pelosi has got to be asking herself, “Who let the dogs out?” (woof, woof, woof, woof)

    Ray (3c46ca)

  18. I thinh Pelosi should kick all 45 of them out of the Party. That’ll show them!!

  21. It’s kinda fun watching O’s stale, wimpy ideology run into the wall of reality, isn’t it?

This was my hope for the last election: if you must elect a leftist, let him go for broke and reveal its horrible reality. Yahoo!

  25. Let’s just return bush/cheney to power and stand by while they resume abusing it. Why should we have a dynamic, young, dignified and intelligent man at the helm of this ship? Because we don’t deserve him.
Rush Limpballs, Hammity, O’Really, Failin, McPain and others are waiting in the wings to give America what she is used to and deserves, a descent into absurdity and chaos.
    Bah, rethuglicans!

  27. I would recommend that Rahm take the time to view history, and perhaps, the movie “A Bridge Too Far.”

Momentum has passed. Now, it’s time to govern.

Except, no one in the administration knows what that means.

  28. “Why should we have a dynamic, young, dignified and intelligent man at the helm of this ship? “

ROTFLMAO, because he is an empty suit you moron!!!

I love the ObamaTards — they like his suit, his diction and skin color so OF COURSE THAT IS PRESIDENTIAL!!!!!

Talk about bigots and stereotyping. ObamaTards!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t judge a book by looking at the cover.

  29. This bill kills Babies with genetic defects and mildly sick Seniors.

It is like out of Brave New World.

Stop gov.t mandated euthanasia. Stop the ObamaTards and the LibTards.

  30. Why should we have a dynamic, young, dignified and intelligent man at the helm of this ship? Because we don’t deserve him.

You’re telling me. Just look at the moribund, middle-aged, immature idiot that’s running things now.

    Another Chris (a3bb8f)

  31. I read this piece at thehill.com last night just before bed and actually went to sleep with a smile on my face. The more the Dems infight and screw each other, the better.

The bill is make or break in the House. The Senate doesn’t matter – filibuster-proof majority and they are not in fear for their jobs. Terror in the House over 2010 is a great thing. We have to keep the House terrified.

    Peg C. (48175e)

  32. My Democrat congresscritter is a reliable Pelosi puppet—99.3% voting record at her direction.
But I do send him the occasional letter to exercise my typing fingers. I could as well send it to the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz–and get the same effect.

But a letter a day might keep Obamacare away.

    Mike Myers (674050)

  33. Apparently even the Dems are starting to recognize how disasterous it is to let Pelosi/Waxman/Barcky drive the bus right over the cliff. I blame Bush and the Republicans.

    JD (220a1a)

  34. Its interesting to see what the blue dogs want, like negotiated rates on the public option, rather than medicare rates. Wouldn’t that increase the cost?

    imdw (e20863)

  35. We have “blue dog” Dems walking out accusing Waxman of negotiating in bad faith. But it is prolly Rush’s fault.

    JD (3d1db9)

  36. Keep sending those e-mails and telephone calls to these Congress-dweebs. They might get the message that their job is on the line of they vote for the Pelosi-Reid leftard agenda.

    KingShamus (4fabb2)

  37. Mike Myers, #32, my congressman is the same way. When I talk to aides in his office, I feel like I’m talking to the wall…his mind is made up. His blast-emails just recycle the same old DNC/Pelosi/Obama talking points on health and cap and trade (“…800,000 green jobs that can’t be exported…” WHAT 800k jobs and like they can’t make windmill blades in China?)
I actually saw my congresscritter on the street in my town a couple of months ago and tried to engage him in a short conversation. I came away with the feeling that his whole intellectual focus is “don’t confuse me with the facts.”
(PS, the state and local Repubs are brain dead. They haven’t run a credible candidate against him in years. In ’06 he ran UNOPPOSED!
    We are sooooo screwed!

  38. LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY. (Thomas Paine)

We have the 37th worst quality of healthcare in the developed world. Conservative estimates are that over 120,000 of you dies each year in America from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don’t die from. Rich, middle class, and poor a like. Insured and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies. This is what being 37th in quality of healthcare means.

I know that many of you are angry and frustrated that REPUBLICANS! In congress are dragging their feet and trying to block TRUE healthcare reform. What republicans want is just a taxpayer bailout of the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry, and the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT healthcare industry. A trillion dollar taxpayer funded private health insurance bailout is all you really get without a robust government-run public option available on day one.

These industries have been slaughtering you and your loved ones like cattle for decades for profit. Including members of congress and their families. These REPUBLICANS are FOOLS!

Republicans and their traitorous allies have been trying to make it look like it’s President Obama’s fault for the delays, and foot dragging. But I think you all know better than that. President Obama inherited one of the worst government catastrophes in American history from these REPUBLICANS! And President Obama has done a brilliant job of turning things around, and working his heart out for all of us.

But Republicans think you are just a bunch of stupid, idiot, cash cows with short memories. Just like they did under the Bush administration when they helped Bush and Cheney rape America and the rest of the World.

But you don’t have to put up with that. And this is what you can do. The Republicans below will be up for reelection on November 2, 2010. Just a little over 13 months from now. And many of you will be able to vote early. So pick some names and tell their voters that their representatives (by name) are obstructing TRUE healthcare reform. And are sellouts to the insurance and medical lobbyist.

Ask them to contact their representatives and tell them that they are going to work to throw them out of office on November 2, 2010, if not before by impeachment, or recall elections. Doing this will give you something more to do to make things better in America. And it will help you feel better too.

There are many resources on the internet that can help you find people to call and contact. For example, many social networking sites can be searched by state, city, or University. Be inventive and creative. I can think of many ways to do this. But be nice. These are your neighbors. And most will want to help.

I know there are a few democrats that have been trying to obstruct TRUE healthcare reform too. But the main problem is the Bush Republicans. Removing them is the best thing tactically to do. On the other hand. If you can easily replace a democrat obstructionist with a supportive democrat, DO IT!

You have been AMAZING!!! my people. Don’t loose heart. You knew it wasn’t going to be easy saving the World. :-)

    God Bless You

  39. Your statistics are nonsense, jacksmith. You are cribbing from people who are repeating nonsense you don’t even understand. That “37th” statistic is based on a faux WHO study that puts nations with worse outcomes ahead of the US, rewarding them so long as their outcomes are all equally worse.

And its pretty hilarious that you post your vacuous diatribe about Republicans, when its obvious from the original posting that the Democrats can’t get all their members to support the ludicrous disaster of a bill they’ve put together.

    You are a bad joke.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  40. Oh, and by the way, jacksmith, turns out that the biggest problem with convincing the American public about this ludicrous health care bill is that everytime Obama speaks support drops.
