9. That’s where the Barack Obama spent his formative years… in a big city where they bomb people. I was in a small town in Texas what made most of its own tortillas by hand at that age. We had a radio station that played the heck out of Peabo Bryson.

10. TJ – Man caused disaster I believe is the correct terminology.

    Just like the White House today claims the Stimulus Bill now was not intended to stimulate the economy, only stabilize the downturn. Heck it wasn’t going to even do that with all the spending back end loaded. Their revised spinning has been terrible lately.

    The Jakarta thing must have been the Joooos. They’re always doing bad stuff according to some people.

11. I don’t have a direct link but Agence France Press reports that a car bomb has gone off in Jakarta. In addition, the hotel bombs were reportedly “high explosive bombs.”

12. Thankfully, not a car bomb.

    Police commissioner tells the Kompas newspaper that the car explosion in Jakarta was not caused by a bomb but by a fire.(4 minutes ago from BNO Headquarters)

14. Thanks for the update on the vehicle fire, Dana. I can see how that could lead to inflated reports, given that it happened just a couple of hours after the bombs detonated. I don’t know if this is true or not but the Times of India reports a second, unexploded bomb has been found at the Marriott.

16. We finished a 14 month stint in Jakarta at the end of March. We ate at the Airlangga at the Marriott several times. It is (was!!) a really good buffet restaraunt. The security was pretty good at the hotel. That device had to be carried in there. You couldn’t get a car within 50 yards of the hotel entrance due to security changes since the blast in 2005. I’d have to say that the eyewitness reporting a man with no stomach probably saw the bomber.

18. I’m fierce secretive about that, Mr. Roper. Mostly cause I’m the only happyfeet from there ever and also it’s a very dark place what is best not invoked. Dark as in gothic and sorta evil. An accursed place you might could say.
