Andrew Sullivan: Liar

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 2:05 am

Ed Whelan makes the accusation.

UPDATE: Sullivan retracted here. I don’t read his piece of crap blog so I hadn’t seen it.

    This is news?

  2. I refuse to believe it. The poor man doesn’t even know, and apparently doesn’t know enough to do research to find out, how many months it takes for a woman to carry a pregnancy. It’s not a lie if you’re simply too stupid to put facts together, or even get them straight.

Besides he regularly, with obvious shock and heart-ache, accuses at least one mom of flat-out lies about being the mother of her own child. No one who values **truth** that highly could ever, ever tell a lie.

  3. Excitable Andy is pond scum, nothing more. Sad that anyone pays attention to him.

  4. Is there any precedent for a lawsuit regarding libel in this case? Yes, I know all about the freedom of the “press,” but this seems far beyond the pale of reasonable suspicion.

  5. Dmac, you could argue that Ed Whelan is a public figure, so the standard of proof for libel is higher. But I think it comes close to reckless disregard for the truth.

  8. Andrew Sullivan has been showing signs of AIDS dementia for several years now. I once (back when I read his blog and even donated) sent him an e-mail asking if he was alright after a particularly demented post. He wasn’t pleased. I have the e-mail somewhere as a souvenir.

  9. It isn’t an accusation. It’s a description.

  10. But, but, but did he not recently win a best blog prize? And that awesome body with the power thighs makes us swoon with feverish delight. Wouldn’t surprise me if Andy could easily find enough adoring fans to suplly him with a quart of sperm each night.

How does one argue with liberals? Just tried to explain to one clueless moonbat Hungarian Jew ex-pat via of Venezuela that Joo-hater’s waterboarding gave up info about Sears Tower conspiracy. Of course she wants Bush and his entourage in court for crimes against humanity and torture of Islamofreaks. I brought up FDR and Truman’s war against civilians. She is irate about the nukes in Japan, but feels the German civilians richly deserved to be incinerated or suffocated because they allowed Hitler to kill Jews.
Getting back to Saint Andrew, how does that f*cktard live with himself? I suppose he is ok with a successful new 911 on O’s watch and would agree with current administration if they imposed martial law, rationing, relocations, seizure of assets, etc. What is the point of emasculating our intelligence community if NOT to destroy ability to defend America from her enemies, other than evil conservatives? Feck Sullivan.

  12. Sullivan also takes a shot at Cliff May, who explains himself at The Corner as well,

Andrew Sullivan has a post up on his Daily Dish taking a shot at me as well. He begins by saying generously: “Cliff May has done great work over the years advancing democracy and defending human rights.” He goes on to link to one of my Corner posts and to say that my “defense of torture when and only when America does it deeply undermines his credibility and makes a mockery of his previous work.”

In fact, in just about everything I’ve written and said, I’ve taken pains to emphasize that I oppose torture. However, I do think (1) it’s important to define torture so we know what we are talking about, and (2) all forms of “stress and duress” utilized to elicit cooperation from a terrorist in possession of life-saving information are not torture.

How do people take Sullivan seriously?

  13. Quite honestly, the left has enjoyed at least 40 years of uncriticized redefinition powers. Only this time, there are a great many people standing up and saying “you’re not redefining this on my watch.”

  15. Dana – 10:39am – How do people take Sullivan seriously?

They don’t at this point. However, Sullivan’s writing (and thinking) has deteriorated over time.

Also, wild statements get attention. Attention produces site hits.

    Many confuse attention with capability.

  17. Sullivan withdrew his allegation later yesterday, but then decided to come back later and attack Whelan for leading the charge against Harold Koh as nominee to be the top lawyer at the State Dept.

Whelan is a brilliant lawyer, but Sullivan didn’t even know who he was when he leveled the original charge.

Reading his blog lately, I’m starting to give more and more credence to the idea that he is beginning to develop some form of psychosis connected to his HIV status.

  19. A bit of medical i9nfo related to AS and any HIV related psychosis. He’s stated in the past,he uses testosterone (I think by injections-the Andro derm patches are pretty weak) to help with how he feels. And maybe performs.(Sorry.)That’s a really good way to be loony.Still,I would argue AS can be loony w3ithout any pathology or hormones
