Site Issues Again
The site has received higher than normal traffic in recent days and has been straining under the pressure. Most days I have had to turn on a plugin called “WP Super Cache” which serves up cached pages to people who visited recently. The upside is that the site stays up. The downside is that comments can take forever to appear, unless someone physically clears the cache.
Sometimes people are available to do that, and sometimes they aren’t. When they aren’t, you can try clearing your own cache, and that may help comments appear. Alternatively, you can suggest to me the name of a computer tech guy who can help me with the problem.
Even though traffic is not terribly high right now, the site was very slow again this morning and I turned on this pluginyet again. More people seem to be getting through now and everything has sped back up. Comments may be bumpy again, however.

That’s a good problem to have, frustrating as it is to us commenters. Your audience is growing, and that may explain why the trollbots have been so active.
WP is a popular platform. There must be techies out there who have encountered this before.

MAS1916 (de1316) — 4/22/2009 @ 8:01 amI guess your system is the bottle neck? Is the website hosted on some shared hosting plan like DreamHost or is it on its own dedicated server? If you have it on some shared hosting plan, that is probably the problem. You would need a dedicated server.

Gesundheit (47b0b8) — 4/22/2009 @ 11:23 amI pull about 1/20th of Patterico’s traffic, but I keep WP Super Cache running 24/7: whatever variability seems to occur in the time it takes for comments to post has always been traceable back to random connectivity glitches here and there.
I’m thinking maybe it’s time to update to WordPress 2.7.1. (This appears to be 2.6.5.)
