Miss California Speaks About Perez Hilton

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:22 pm

Allahpundit says:

Hotness is often inversely proportional to sweetness, but this kid is somehow off the charts on both. Good work, mom and dad.

She sure has a lot more class than Perez Hilton.

And she’s conservative.

UPDATE: Here is an earlier video:

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

UPDATE: In the video at the top, Miss California is asked whether she believes she would have won if she had not been asked the gay marriage question, and she answers yes. This raises the journalistic question: would she have? One factor in beauty contests, of course, is the swimsuit competition, so readers wishing to make up their own minds on this important journalistic question may wish to survey the evidence for themselves. I have provided it below the fold.

Above: Miss California

Above: Miss North Carolina

Maybe I’m revealing a pro-California prejudice here, but I think Miss California is right.

  1. Nice to see Perez Hilton act as an arbiter of taste and tolerance.

More seriously, that was such a “gotcha” question. And it is more “litmus test” strategy.

The ironic part, of course, is the President doesn’t support gay marriage the way that Hilton (or Sullivan, for that matter) would prefer.

So once again, it is all about D versus R.

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  2. Seriously, can you imagine the uproar if a judge asked a contestant to name the Ten Commandments?

That would be unfair and intolerant, you see?

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  3. I knew the moment she (or anyone else for that matter) said “no offense” that it was going to create a shitstorm.

She has more class in her toenail clippings than Perez Hilton will ever have in his entire miserable parasitic existence.

I never knew that absolute PC was a requirement to become the winner of a beauty pageant.

    JD (2e8bd8)

  4. Would have been nice if in response to the question about same-sex marriage, she had proclaimed: “And my heart also bleeds — and my tears well up — for all those people out there who want multi-partner marriages.

“If love conquers all, and is more important than anything else, and a guy and two women want to be in a committed relationship, or two women want to be with 3 guys, or a guy wants to be in a intimate partnership with 4 women, or 2 guys want to be hitched to 30 women, or a guy wants a constantly changing and shared set of wives, who are we to say that’s unacceptable!?”

“Monogamy is for prudes, boring ol’ Christians, and the culture of Western imperialism!”

    Mark (411533)

  5. In the mind of Perez Hilton the was only one correct answer to this question. Were the other contestants given right/wrong questions?

I love the stench of liberal intolerance.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  6. For Perez Hilton, he lives this code:

“Do what thou wilt, and that be the whole of the Law.”

    Sheesh.

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  7. Patterico – Can we see some more of Miss California? The bathing suit picture would be nice for the misogynists here.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  8. You better watch it, daley, or Patterico will post that photoshoot of Perez Hilton instead.

    In the name of tolerance.

Mind you, gay or straight aside, Perez is a jerk.

    Well said.

I’m sure Trump hired Hilton for that purpose: to create “good” TV regardless of who looks bad or gets hurt.

    Patricia (2183bb)

  10. Eric – The last cheesecake I remember on this site was David Beckham and his wife. Patterico is pretty stingy.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  11. For a good pix of Ms. California, and the winner from South Carolina, go to PowerLine, who are always on the cutting edge of these issues (beauty contests, that is).

    AD (57cf22)

  12. I don’t know whether Miss California was “robbed” of first place or not. She obviously got to the final 2–Perez Hilton’s vote or not.

Perez’s conduct afterwards was that of a true jerk.

Her response to it all was interesting. She apparently viewed the question as a moral test; would she stand up for her beliefs or not? She says she feels blessed that she was put to the test. Hey, it’s not waterboarding–but when your eye is on the prize, would you, do you, let your beliefs slip just a little bit to get that prize?

Most will–she didn’t. It’s nice to know at age 21 that you’ve got what it takes to be a stand up guy or girl.

    Mike Myers (674050)

  13. I’ll take either one.

  14. Eric – The last cheesecake I remember on this site was David Beckham and his wife. Patterico is pretty stingy.

OK, check the update. It is provided for an Important Journalistic Purpose.

    Patterico (cc3b34)

  15. I’ll take either one.

    Why not both?

    Patterico (cc3b34)

  16. The same swimsuit. Equality….liberal style.

    Roy Mustang (9deca0)

  17. The questions in #13 and #15 are purely rhetorical. No disrespect meant, HeavenSent.

Dirty Harry Callahan put it best:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZNlraF0xec

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  18. Roy, you are clearly a “look-ist.” Equality dictates that the swimsuit would also be put on Helen Thomas.

    And Perez Hilton.

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  19. The same swimsuit? I hope it was washed between wearings.

    John Hitchcock (fb941d)

  20. Thank you, Patterico. Better Half just smacked me in the back of my head. I would have picked NC, but CA’s spine makes her more attractive now.

    JD (2e8bd8)

  21. EB – That is disgusting. Thanks. Must bleach my mind’s eye now.

    JD (2e8bd8)

  22. Why not both?

Because the immutable law of beautiful women applies: No matter how great she looks, somebody somewhere is tired of putting up with her BS!

With the corollary: …and soon enough, you’ll find out why!

    MJN1957 (6e1275)

  23. JD, I had no idea you were a spine-man.

You are just a heteronormative racist.

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  24. And a look-ist, too, like Roy.

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  25. Don’t forget imperialist, jingoist, xenophobe, homophobe, misogynist, misanthrope, and capitalist running dog.

    JD (2e8bd8)

  26. I like Cali’s longer, fuller, darker hair better (but it should be more auburn). And she has that self-assured former-tomboy look to her. And like I’m sure many neurosurgeons would say, a mind is a beautiful thing.

    John Hitchcock (fb941d)

  27. You know the scene from “Dirty Harry”, JD. When he is accused of being racist.

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  28. Better Half just smacked me in the back of my head.

I find myself being a bigger and bigger fan of your wife… 🙂

    Scott Jacobs (90ff96)

  29. I’d take Miss cali any day of the week.

    Scott Jacobs (90ff96)

  30. I just watched Larry King where Perez Hilton attempted to debate Dennis Praeger on same-sex marriage, differences between the genders (which Perez thinks are only physical), the definition of marriage, and whether he was setting up Miss CA. I wish I could report precisely Perez’s p.o.v. but I couldn’t follow a word he said. It was scattered and he tends to whine… Praeger was his reasonable self.

It’s really ironic how much Perez Hilton and Elton John resemble one another.

    Dana (d08a3a)

  31. Thanks Patterico. The update serves an important journalistic purpose. It proves what a sexist, classist site this is. Heh!

    Where’s my pie?

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  32. You know daley, I wasn’t going to say anything, but

    Dana (d08a3a)

  33. Back to the kitchen with you woman. Heh.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  34. *looks at Dana*

What are you doing here? This isn’t the kitchen… 🙂

    Scott Jacobs (90ff96)

  35. Scott – I don’t know how to do the emoticon thingy’s, otherwise I would have.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  36. You boys are on your own … I see a Jimmy Choo up your ass in your futures though.

Don’t you have a microwave to ruin with an army of peeps?

    Scott Jacobs (90ff96)

  38. #2- And a safe bet, Ugartti. Chances are they couldn’t.

    Comment by Scott Jacobs — 4/21/2009 @ 10:38 pm

He hasn’t won a bet against me, so his microwave is safe. For now.

    Stashiu3 (460dc1)

  40. Oh, for God’s sake, DCSCA. If you are going to try to make fun of me, at least get the name right: Ugarte. Peter Lorre was a fine actor.

    You, not so much.

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  41. As someone who disagrees with her on the issue (as I know our host does too), I am very impressed with the class and grace which Ms. Prejean has conducted herself.

Prop 8 is just like Prop 209 (the affirmative action ban) was 13 years ago: I voted my conscience and ended up on the losing side, but I absolutely can’t stand the conduct of my putative allies on the issue. I may be in agreement with Perez Hilton about Prop. 8, but I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with that worthless twerp otherwise.

And Neal Cavuto, stop trying to impress the beauty queen, man. Let her finish a sentence and quit with the not-so-humorous quips. I doubt if she’s gonna be attracted to you anyway.

Finally, for the record: Donald Trump sucks.

    JVW (bff0a4)

  42. They are both equally attractive. But then again, they all tend to look the same in the dark.

    Dr. K (e70a2d)

  43. I think she is a future Fox Anchorett.

    Paul Albers (db7e67)

  44. But then again, they all tend to look the same in the dark.

And the amount of similarity is rather high from behind…

    Scott Jacobs (90ff96)

  45. I watched the competition live and Miss North Carolina had the highest scores in both the swimsuit and evening gown rounds.

Although I believe the question that Miss California got was unfair, I do believe that Miss North Carolina truly deserved to win.

I actually thought Miss Arizona was going to get runner-up, but her non-answer on the “Universal Health Care” question sealed her fate.

I was kind of bummed that Miss Virginia didn’t make it out of the swimsuit round though.

    Kiliman (5c3582)

  46. Better question: what if she’d said that she supported gay marriage and LOST because of that answer?

    Cam Winston (2937d1)

  47. If it was a litmus test it was for IQ.
She could have EASILY given your stock answer, let the states choose, federalism FTW!
    Not bright.
If the the SSM question is the contemporary equivalent of the world peace question, here is my mimic of Miss Cali’s equivalent response.

Judge: How would bring about world peace?
Miss Cali–flowerhead: By having everyone LOVE JESUS!

    wheeler's cat (06550c)

  48. Ah, the kindness and tolerance of the Left, again.

Your venom couldn’t possibly be due to the lady’s personal appearance. Of course not.

Actually, Ms. Prejean will do fine. You watch: a book contract is in the offing. And to anticipate the jokes—this lady is better known, and will make more money, than her detractors.

I still don’t see why her opponents simply say “I wish that she could see the error of her ways, and I hope that she was not denied the top spot because of her political or religious beliefs, because that would be wrong.” That’s the high road.

I think good old Perez Hilton hurt his cause. He only convinced people who already agreed with him. I notice that none of the folks who seem to think Ms. Prejean was intolerant have much to say about Mr. Hilton’s vulgar attack on her afterwards.

Really helping the cause there, Perez! But then, I don’t think he cares about much other than himself…based on what I have read about his antics.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  49. Also…are you seriously implying that Perez Hilton is smart? Seriously?

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  50. Actually, Ms. Prejean will do fine.

Oh, she’ll do fine. Just look at Anita Bryant.
Perhaps she can get a spot on the Insane Clown Posse Comedy Hour Glenn Beck Show.

Im nice to look at for a geek princess, but I am something of an IQist.

Also…are you seriously implying that Perez Hilton is smart? Seriously?

Excuse meh…I wasn’t aware Perez was a contender for Miss USA….now that would be true equality! 😉

    wheeler's cat (06550c)

    Non sequitur.

    Steverino (69d941)

  52. The funniest statement from twit Hilton was that it was the worst response to a question in beauty pageant history. There is a champion who has retired that trophy forever.

    Miss teen South Carolina!

  53. Is wheeler’s cat/nishi/genocide enthusiast ever anything but incoherent?

  54. Is wheeler’s cat/nishi/genocide enthusiast ever anything but incoherent?

Oh Pardon….I realize most of the commenters here are …umm….generationally challenged, and wouldn’t know who Insane Clown Posse is.

  55. Most students under 25 would not know ICP, either.

    Welcome to entropy.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  56. Sorry, but people who call other folks “generationally challenged” are usually aging hipsters. And they don’t realize it until some 22 year old looks blankly at the hipster’s “cool” statement.

As I say, welcome to entropy. And get a good moisturizer with sunscreen.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  57. Not to belabor the point, but I’m sure that “nerd princesses” all groove to MC Hawking.

Seriously, folks, check out “nerdcore.” You’ll find that it is reminiscent of someone.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  58. The funny thing is that I have seen Insane Clown Posse live. It was … interesting. An experience.

I was pointing out, Nishi/genocide lover/cat, that you are an incoherent twit.

    JD (ae4db3)

  59. No, JD. She is a “nerd princess” who is “nice to look at” and an “IQist.”

Sounds like she is trolling for trolls here, given some of the other TdJs.

    Much bliss to her.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  60. Most students under 25 would not know ICP, either.

    The Gathering is strong.
Much debate about the nature of Juggalos.
I think I will another defintion definition to the UD…..Beckers, followers of Insane clown Glenn Beck==Juggalos…..or…..conservatives and republicans are really juggalos…..
The Dark Carnival is just code for Socialist America!!!!!
    hahahaha

  61. Thank you for demonstrating the abject incoherence I was referencing previously.

    JD (ae4db3)

  62. Actually, WC, much bliss to you, but I categorize you as being part of a group, though I will try not to be quite as dismissive and elitist as you are when I do so.

It is a Granfalloon. And you seem to display many of the traits you show disdain for in others.

Here is the truest thing you will ever see:

Do so gracefully, I would recommend.

  63. Completely off-topic but I like the Stones so much more than the Beatles.

    Anon (b0f193)

  64. I can’t argue with you there, Anon, but I sure like The Kinks, too.

    Eric Blair (c8876d)

  65. BTW, I vote for cloning Miss CA!

  66. #41- Ugarte. Peter Lorre was a fine actor. I know that. He played the slippery Ugarti well. That’s why you are Ugartti.

    DCSCA (9d1bb3)

  67. DCSCA: you still can’t spell. Nor can you keep facts straight, nor treat others decently.

As I said before, on this day on the blog, maybe keeping a low profile, and not picking fights, would be the way to go.

You think that a nice post in another thread makes you look better. But your hateful speech about Tony Snow, your studied and repeated lies, and your insults toward others here, do not convince.

Go away, troll. You are tiresome.

    Eric Blair (ad3775)

  68. Bush! Rush! Palin! Jindal! Illegal war for oil! Warmongerers!

    JD (ae4db3)

  69. #67You think that a nice post in another thread makes you look better.

Do I? Why thank you, Eric.

    Go away, troll.

    Frustration? Adieu, Ugartti.

    DCSCA (9d1bb3)

  70. Has anyone wondered why such a controversial and politically charged question was posed in a beauty pageant? It is baffling to me. Do judges make up their own questions? Is there an agenda behind some of the questions being asked? Is publicity the goal?
    Irene

    Irene (9627f8)

  71. You measure the character of a person by their actions.

Perez’ actions were less than contemptable; therefore HE is less than contemptable.

Miss California showed grace, poise, and a willingness to stick to her principles in the face of derision and the loss of her dream.

You tell me who came out better.

    Dr. K (e70a2d)

  72. I dunno, if you cover their faces, you can’t really tell the difference between the two, except Miss California is slightly more tan. Beauty pageant girls all look the same.

    George (827a46)

  73. Asking a question about same sex marriage at a Miss America pageant is out of place and bad form, just like Perez Hilton
