Pres. Obama’s Unilateral Cowboy Foreign Policies

In advance of the G20 summit on the global recession, France and Germany disagree with Pres. Obama’s push for larger economic stimulus plans, favoring tighter regulation and transparency instead.  China continues to buy US government debt, but concerns that China and Japan may get the jitters over Obama’s borrow-spend-and-inflate policies are affecting the bond and stock markets.  The Obama Administration’s policies in Afghanistan and Pakistan look to be increasingly unilateral.  And Obama seems committed to a unilateral policy on Iran, in keeping with his campaign rhetoric.

As Instapundit Glenn Reynolds might say, “They told me that if I voted for John McCain, we would get unilateral, cowboy foreign policy… and they were right!”

  1. There has been little coverage of the ham-fisted, incompetence in Obama’s foreign policy to date.

  2. It may be insightful to note that China’s most recent UST purchases have been overwhelmingly of the short term variety. Long bond buys have dried up. Hence the recent Fed proclaiming themselves buyers of last resort. Easy to deduce the implications thereof. Also, the Chinese are purportedly using their reserves to stealthily acquire ‘quality’ US assets. The apostrophes on quality have their own set of implications, as well. The question is now whether one wishes to hold paper or tangible assets. No matter which is chosen, liquidity is a paramount virtue presently. Feels like the kids game of musical chairs. When the music stops….

  3. And Karl, you always seem to hone in the most critical aspects of our current predicament. You have a good eye.

  4. As noted by Powerline, Ralph Peters had a nice summary of Obama’s foreign policy failures over at the N.Y. Post:

  5. Thanks, allan.

  6. daleyrocks,

Peters left out North Korea, so here’s HRC neutering our warship threat against the NoKo missile launch.

  7. Karl – I just can’t get over my memories of that special relationship Maddy Notsobright formed for us with the Hermit Kingdom. But hey, Hillary told the Europeans she doesn’t understand multiparty diplomacy so there’s hope for more “specialness” going forward.

  8. More detail on how China is preparing against massive US inflation.

  9. But we all remember our little Gollum’s dancing with Dear Leader, don’t we? And what about our drop – kicking our missile defense systems out the window? Yes, that truly tells the nutbags that we really mean business.

The reality of Europe telling us that our fiscal policies are a joke is positively Orwellian – what’s next, a lecture on defense from AQ?

  10. Forgot to add – Karl, your posts are very much appreciated!

  11. Thanks Dmac (the Poles are not thrilled that Obama is stabbing them in the back on missile defense), and to LarryD for the link.

  12. …Hillary told the Europeans she doesn’t understand multiparty diplomacy so there’s hope for more “specialness” going forward.

Of course she understands it, she’s the smartest woman in the world!

I continue to be mortified by what my president and his administration are doing.

  14. Geez, spend eight years with the world telling us to quit being such cowboys. Here we give in to peer pressure and start acting like them, and they’re whining about it!

  15. Maybe the State Dept. needs to give The World an “overcharge” button.

  16. Hey guys lighten up. You know our Dear Leader was overreaching when he said Presidents could do more than one thing at a time; well that may be true for some Presidents, but for him, well not so much. So he’s concentrating all his efforts on domestic policy issues—so cut him some slack for his pratfalls overseas.

  17. so cut him some slack for his pratfalls overseas

Can’t. The world is so volatile right now, between the Fluffy Haired Monster, Putin, Al Qaida, Mexico, Chavez… Can we really afford 4 years of blinkered neglect?

  18. But Teh One is soooooo smart and everyone loves us now. Right?

  19. #20 SPQR:

Good thing we don’t have any cowboys in charge anymore … isn’t it?

    Holy moly.

I could a gone the rest of the year without the nightmares that link is gonna give me.

    Thanks, SPQR.

  21. Obama won’t be able to push any policies during this G20 summit. Western Europe’s leaders are too stubborn to do anything about their economies. Yes Obama may be doing a bit of cowboy policy but at least he is doing something. Saw some more info on the story with this vid, http://www.newsy.com/videos/obama_faces_battle_at_g20/

  23. SPQR – Was there a time when he was not?

Stand up. Come on … stand up!

    JD (0ecdbf)

  24. Nope, never was, JD. But with all that play about how stupid Quayle was, you would think people would notice that Biden is too dumb to feed himself unassisted.

But nope, more of that nonexistant media bias.
