Question: How many shots of JD are needed to make this tolerable? Answer: Evidently more than six.

Heh.

Your thoughts?

  1. Me, I didn’t watch it. I can’t drink enough wine to make it endurable, so I won’t even try.

    Patterico (cc3b34)

  2. You know, in the old days, DRJ would have opened a thread at the appropriate time.

    Sniff.

    Patterico (cc3b34)

  3. Until about thirty minutes ago, I was thinking Arby’s! Did I miss anything important?

    Leonardo DaFinchi (8c0a12)

  4. “I just passed a stimulus with no earmarks.”

“I just passed a stimulus with no earmarks.”

Obviously in our president’s alternate universe earmarks means something entirely different than what most of us believe it to be.

    Dana (137151)

  5. I’m watching MSNBC to see what the Olbermann/Matthews/Maddow troika has to say. After introducing Bobby Jindal, you can hear Olbermann saying, sort of under his breath “Oh my God.”

    Pablo (99243e)

  6. I watched some of it, Patterico, but I was driven to turn to the Avs game because Obama made so many brazen false statements.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  7. Obviously in our president’s alternate universe earmarks means something entirely different than what most of us believe it to be.

It’s technically true. But instead of being attached to the bill after passage, the tons of pork was the bill.

    Pablo (99243e)

  8. Obama and Geithner keep stepping on their private parts and everytime they do it, they drive me down a quintile of economic status. Almost literally with the market tanking each time one of these twits open their mouth.

Well, now the Avs are stinking up the ice so much I might be driven back to Obama.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  9. Technically is a sleight of hand. It’s grating he still believes we don’t see through it.

    Dana (137151)

  10. Technically is a sleight of hand.

    Indeed it is.

    Pablo (99243e)

  11. I didn’t watch it….I’ll depend on the pundits to tell me what it said…

But, I am watching Bobby Jindal….and while he talks so “sugar-sweet” he’s right about most of it….

We can do this….but government has to get out of the way….

    reff (ee9f7a)

  12. Barack “the transparency starts when I say it starts” Obama

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  13. So parents are responsible for the education of their children but not for paying their mortgage?

Anyone care to understand the pathology which excuses the failures of the public education system but manages to blame the financial system?

Marx-Lenin have a new frem, his name is Obama.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  14. Charter schools but no vouchers – chickenshit.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  15. Jindal’s deliver sucks.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  16. The lie about finding 2 trillion in excess spending over 10 years was pretty brazen, but even if true, it means it will take a decade and a half to pay back his own wasted spending.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  17. Jindal’s delivery sucks.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  18. If we keep importing more and more foreign oil, Barack, here’s an idea – drill here and create some jobs!

    Oh Snap!

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  19. How are y’all liking Jindal (or not)?

    Patterico (cc3b34)

  20. Save or create 3.5 million jobs – Half of it the unmeasurable metric.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  21. Jindal is a huge improvement for his state, but like Charles Johnson I’m put off by the creationism. I’ve fought creationists for too many years.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  22. The myth of “preventive medicine” always annoys me. Its among the stupider of Democratic platitudes. It has simply never panned out.

And the reality is that the Democrats who keep repeating it know that it is a myth. They use this nonsense to justify expansion of intervention in the market for health care knowing that they are lying to us.

Meanwhile the Democratic over-regulation of health care has already driven the price up orders of magnitude more than any of these faux “solutions” could fix.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  23. “How are y’all liking Jindal (or not)?”

    Jindal?

I thought it was a Dunkin Donuts commercial.

Oh God bless me, that was my Joe Biden impression.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  24. Republicans, all, should take a very simple narrative with Barack ….

    1) Here are our principles

    2) When Barack delivers against them, we support him

    3) When he does not, we will dissent patriotically and propose our own ideas.

Repeat ad nauseum and live them.

This is why the Rick Santelli thing struck a chord, it is simple, passionate and everyone gets it.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  25. Jindal? Meh. That said, I’d trade him for Baracky in a second.

    Pablo (99243e)

  26. So anyone got a betting line on how many points the DOW JONES INDUSTRIAL drop tomorrow after this mediocre speech?

    SPQR (26be8b)

  27. Democrats have no clue bout medicine.

    1) EMR raises costs by lowering worker productivity.

    2) Portability of medical records does not save lives — electronic portability even less. Total sales job by Silicon Valley.

    3) Preventative medicine rarely catches the problems people develops. Patients being thoughful and thorough in disclosing information to MDs does ….

    4) …. which gets to my next point which is paying Gneral Med MDs more and encouraging them with $$$$ to spend time with patients will actually help.

    5) When people pay for Medicine out-of-pocket they invest more time in their health, understand better what is needed and actually engage in preventative care.

All these reforms will INCREASE COSTS because it will require armies of clerks who need to be further educated in software, slows down MDs with software and do nothing for actually practice of medicine.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  28. Clearly, Obama’s a troll.

    Hax Vobiscum (23258e)

  29. I thought Jindal made two distinct points,

Democratic leaders say their legislation will grow the economy. What it will do is grow the government, increase our taxes down the line, and saddle future generations with debt… It’s irresponsible.

You elected Republicans to champion limited government, fiscal discipline and personal responsibility. Instead, Republicans went along with earmarks and big government spending in Washington.

    Bottom line,

Republicans have a responsibility to be candid and offer better ideas for a path forward.

    I’m trying to be optimistic.

    Dana (137151)

  30. Baracky believes and people want to believe in someone who believes. Same as Reagan.

When I hear most Republicans talk today I don’t feel they really believe and I think the rest of the American public picks up on it.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  31. Heh, SPQR, I’ve fought evolutionists for too many years myself.

    John Hitchcock (fb941d)

  32. Jindal. Meh. A likeable guy, but most of his speech left me wondering what year this was and exactly who or what was he responding too? Amazingly ineffective. Makes Obama look downright monumental in comparison. I mean did they even tell him what is going on or did he just wing it from GOP for Dummies? I can’t wait for the SNL sketch.

Obama just showed once again why he’s the right president for the times and just how lucky this nation is to have voted him into office.

    Peter (e70d1c)

  33. #27, Don’t be a silly boy. Put something forward.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  34. People are doing shots of me ?! Kind of creepy …

    JD (0e6191)

  35. Also, Barack, we invented the car?

    Um, no.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  36. I should have driven down to Stephen Green’s place for the evening, he’s having more fun with drunkblogging Obama’s speech than I’ve had here.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  37. I will say this about Baracky, when he talks about parents being responsible for their kids I clap like a retarded seal.

If only we could get Baracky to extend that “sphere of personal responsibility” to these same parents economic lives.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  38. Me, I didn’t watch it. I can’t drink enough wine to make it endurable, so I won’t even try.

    Heh. I’m with you!

    EW1(SG) (e27928)

  39. SPQR – How’s your blue scrotum?

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  40. Blinky McBotoxface looked happy.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  41. daleyrocks, it is making me quite popular with the chicks … unfortunately simian chicks.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  42. I am sipping some Blue in honor of the sentiments.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  43. Fortunately, I was driving back from Tucson and listening to excellent country music on my wife’s iPod. We arrived home as Jindal finished. Brit Hume didn’t like his delivery but I missed almost all of it.

OUA, I disagree about EMR. Used properly, it will hugely improve hospital care. I also had a grant proposal about 15 years ago to use it for primary care in assisted living homes. It didn’t get funded so we were never able to prove that it saved money with frail elderly.

There are some excellent studies with ICU care that it will save lives and avoid some expensive technology that is less effective than using decision support in an EMR system.

You are right about preventive medicine which is mostly BS. Aside from immunizations and a few things like mammography, most preventive measures are public health not medical care. DDT would be the best preventive medicine in Africa but the left has an ideological aversion to it.

    Mike K (2cf494)

  44. Mike, I have three sites on EMR and I don’t see it. The extra staff and IT budget — just don’t see it three years hence.

In hospitals, yeah, I can see some advantages to integrating records so as to allow staffs across the enterprise to use one medical record for a medical stay. Particularly, when that stay starts in one Hosp. department and you move to another.

But I hope to be wrong so we can make more money.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  45. I liked Obama talking about the budgets in terms of 10 years. The Russians only talked about five year plans. This must be the new Socialism.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  46. Red meat for the Obamabots. Tonight he was cool guy campaigner and grownup president: dreamy and forceful.

When he yells, I guess that means he’s being presidential.

“No earmarks”? LOL. Wait till the Republicans and blogosphere reacts to that!

    Patricia (89cb84)

  47. Obviously in our president’s alternate universe earmarks means something entirely different than what most of us believe it to be.

That’s because the “most of us” believe in things that aren’t true. Earmark has a specific meaning. Despite what John McCain may have led you to “believe” it doesn’t actually mean “spending that the rump minority party of the Old South doesn’t like.”

    Festivus (86f13d)

  48. Festivus, gee no strawman has a chance against you, does it?

    SPQR (26be8b)

  49. Daley, the trojan horse there is the introduction of “cash flow discount”

It is how you can halve a budget deficit over night — take the negative cash flows and discount “the otu years” then add it back.

$500 trillion becomes $250 via the magic of the Discounted Cash Flow Analysis.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  50. It was also pretty funny to hear Obama tick off what “they” had accomplished in his first 30 days legislatively during the course of his speech. Since nobody had a chance to read the stimulus bill before it was passed, I don’t think anyone had a clue how much crap in terms of Democrat initiatives was packed in there. It’s no wonder they excluded the Republicans from drafting and negotiating sessions. If Republicans or the public had actually known what was in there I don’t think it would have had a prayer of passing. They just slipped a ton of initiatives through without debate using fear mongering and a lack of transparency.

    Heckuva job Baracky!

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  51. Festivus, see #7 and #9.

On the front page of Recovery.gov, the stimulus looks pretty darn good! Just don’t look further…

    Dana (137151)

  52. “Daley, the trojan horse there is the introduction of “cash flow discount””

OuA – I’m aware of that, but I’m sure those $2 trillion of savings he’s already identified, made easier by adding them up over 10 years, were undiscounted figures.

    daleyrocks (5d22c0)

  53. The question I kept asking as I watched the speech was: Who has spent more time with the plastic surgeon, Joe Biden or Nancy Peolosi?

    Jack Dunphy (1bb566)

  54. When President Bush “lied to the nation about WMD” in order to invade Iraq ….

Any chance the earmarks lie get the same treatment????????

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  55. Daley,

You discount when it suits your political agenda.

When talking about all the cuts you sue NOMINAL values.

When you talk about the size of actual deficit, you use discounted values ….. unless it is a surplus then you use Nominal again.

Wall Street has nothing on DC when it comes to fiction and numbers.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  56. Jindal is a star, but that creationist shit is awful. I have personally directed thousands of dollars his way by booking certain meetings in NoLa, but he is actually what Sarah Palin was accused of. Make it stop.

    carlitos (3e7004)

  57. He is counting budget numbers for 6 years beyond his current term, and 2 years beyond his potential term?

    JD (4680c5)

  58. #50 Jack Dunphy:

The question I kept asking as I watched the speech…

Things to avoid right before bed:

    1. Acidic foods
    2. Coffee and tea
    3. Mental images conjured up by Jack Dunphy
    4. …

    EW1(SG) (e27928)

  59. At least his talk about Cap and Trade on Carbon Emissions sent Wall Street traders into a orgasmic frenzy….. not so much for US Industry.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  60. Like Stephen Green, I think I’m calling my broker in the morning to sell the rest of my investments and put all the cash into ammo and MRE’s.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  61. OUA, carbon trading is collapsing in Europe. That’s all Obama has – copying European failures.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  62. Ok Dana. Technically, 2+2=4, but since Obama says it, you and “most of us” would prefer to “believe” it be 5.

Good to see all these deficit hawks emerging after their 8-year slumber! Now if you could just remember these principles if/when we have a GOP president, you might slowly earn some credibility.

    Festivus (86f13d)

  63. If he does this I might call some my old frems on the street and get into it. I am sure there is lots of money for agnostics in the trading side of that business.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  64. Festivus you buffoon, how can you presume folks here are happy with 2001 to 2006?

You sure are making a douchewaddle of yourself with a bad assumption.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  65. It would have been a waste of good whisky, I’d have puked it up.

    Born Free (6672c6)

  66. Festivus, I pointed out in comment #28 two succinct points Jindal made, one being,

You elected Republicans to champion limited government, fiscal discipline and personal responsibility. Instead, Republicans went along with earmarks and big government spending in Washington.

    Thank you.

    Dana (137151)

  67. Technically, 2+2=4, but since Obama says it, you and “most of us” would prefer to “believe” it be 5.

That sounds familiar. Was that The Messiah’s campaign slogan?

    Pablo (99243e)

  68. Because the GOP did not stop the Bush admin from deficit spending, it is now OK for Obama to spend many times more?

    That’s logic?

    SPQR (26be8b)

  69. My $0.02…
Whoever was the sound engineer in Baton Rouge should be fired. The audio quality of Jindal’s address was unacceptable.

After spending most of my adult life in the car repair industry, being constantly alert to consumer groups and their faithful government allies trying to set me (and the industry) up on bogus charges of “over repairing” due to their phobia on “preventative maintanance”, that the Lib/Left is now in love with “Preventative Health Care” is a hoot! It would be nice if they had some sort of consistent philosophy that guided them.

Speaker Pelosi: Billiard tables aren’t as smooth as her face. How old is she?

President Barack Hussein Obama would make P.T.Barnum proud!

    AD - RtR/OS (8de25e)

  70. Obama isn’t really the President–he just plays one on TV.

    Official Internet Data Office (aaa692)

  71. Where will he cut the mysterious $2 trillion…hmmm, why didn’t he tell us?

I think the Republicans in the House and Senate should go back to their offices tonight and see if Baracky changed the locks on them.

(And, yes, we hawks have been hawks for eight years if you had bothered to read this blog. Conservatives all over have criticized Bush’s spending.)

    Patricia (89cb84)

  72. After glancing through these remarks and listening to the Republican reply I think the Republicans have been unfairly tarred with the tag of being Nay sayers..

Fact is the The GOP does say “Yes” and has a positive program for this country. Yes to much needed tax cuts for the needy and suffering top one percent. Yes to Torture and Yes to deficits, except, of course, when the Democrats create them.

Yes to more military spending since spending anything less than all the world combined is “gutting our military” and yes to foreign wars of aggression and torture in order to bring the blessings of liberty to the world! God Bless America!

The only things the GOP says NO to are dangerous and wasteful programs like educating our kids which might cause them to vote Democratic and no to health care programs which only eat into profits and prolongs the life of the sick. The GOP realizes that putting Grandma on the back porch in the winter is actually an act of compassion since they will see God that much sooner! Something those bleeding heart liberals don’t get.

I don’t see how decent people can think otherwise and if they do a little time on the rack will “stretch” their minds.

And the GOP realizes that we dont need any government actions to correct the economy. The miracle of the unfettered free market will take care of everything..long as we dont offend God by letting the gays get married or take “In God We Trust” off the money!

We had eight wonderful years under Bush.. peace prosperity, balanced budget, a growing economy, a strong dollar, freedom from foreign oil, plenty of prisons and international respect and no terrorists attacks (except for just one which wasn’t his fault.) Dont believe otherwise its the Liberal media again lying and trying to destroy us decent people! I say “Why ruin a Good Thing? We should have elected him another eight years . Ya! I know the Constitution says you cant do that but hell its only a piece of paper.

I am tired of Democrats bashing the rich. They seem to forget its the crumbs off their tables that feeds the middle class!

PS. If your making under $250,000 a year you are probably going to disagree with this but if your cant make that much you are either poor or lazy!

God Bless America! GOP = God’s Own Party

Oh and PS Patricia conservatives have been bitterly critical of Bush’s spending.. in your dreams!!

    VietnamEraVet (543dfe)

  73. Too bad we can’t pay for The O!ne’s “stimulus” with all the stupid floating around.

    EW1(SG) (e27928)

  74. VietVet,

Nice rant but the laws of self interest apply as much to Democrats and Republicans.

I think you should move to Cuba. They got all the free health care, education and housing you can find.

It would be nice if just once Libtards would address the fact that collectivism impoverishes all all in an effort to deliver “economic justice.”

When I hear morons like Pelosi and Barack I want to offer them a ticket to Cuba and a Passport. Free abortions too.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  75. Conservative/ Republican crybabies are pathetic. You had your chance for eight years and you squandered it. You ran up a mountain of debt, got us involved in a war for false reasons, allowed the worst terrorist attack in history to take place, failed to catch Osama Bin Ladin and did your best to stifle dissent to all this crap by creating divisions and hate and wrapping yourselves in the flag and bashing gays and even wounded servicemen. Nothing is too low for you.

All your good for is excuse making on behalf of George Bush, shifting money away from the middle class toward the very wealthiest, running up mountains of debt, screwing up wars of your own making and blaming everyone and everything else for your own failures.

When someone comes along with new ideas all you can do is recite your own worn out recipes….more tax breaks for the richest, more wars and military spending, more cries of Socialism/ Marxism/ Class Warfare and more of your BS about family values and supporting the troops and praising God.

You’re really a bunch of losers who shouldn’t “criticize what you cant understand” and who should “just get of the new if you cant lend a hand” for the times they are a changin”!

    VietnamEraVet (543dfe)

  76. 6 Years Viet Vet. 6.

    The rest is sheer nonsense.

Drop some angel dust for me tonite will ya.

    Obama über alles!!!!! (da3d2f)

  77. VietnamEraVet, once again you are repeating long debunked myths. Why is it that you make so many false statements? Your comment is just a litany of intentional falsehoods. What kind of loser depends on such misrepresentations to buttress his arguments? Your kind evidently.

You whine about a “mountain of debt” and yet Democrats are nearly matching the debt of the Bush administration’s 8 years in less than 8 weeks.
