Just don’t get a marketing consultant to help you “re do” the blog because they would probably suggesting calling it “Pat’s Place.”

  18. Congratulations, Patrick, and many thanks. Your amazing blog would be essential reading in any case, but it’s particularly important in a city such as LA, where there exists no daily newspaper. Thank God we have you, Kevin Roderick, Mickey Kaus, Andrew Breitbart, Nikki Finke, Roger Simon, Drudge…. I’ve never felt better informed (nor had fewer California sections to recycle, unread).

  19. Blogs like this falsify the tired claim by self-satified MSM hacks that only newspapers do real reporting.

Here’s another example. about yet another financial scandal the MSM was too afraid to vigorously investigate.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is how the journalistic sausage is made. It’s a hyper-competitive world, which is good in some respects, but very bad in others — the Stanford case being a prime example. When Dalmady broke the story, Matt Goldstein of Business Week and Alison Fitzgerald of Bloomberg were already quite far advanced in their own investigations of Stanford. As a result, the WSJ and the NYT were reluctant to report the story, and were pretty late to the game. The FT had it even worse, being hobbled by lawyers worrying about the UK’s draconian libel laws. . .

More generally, essentially no media source has had the guts to do what Dalmady expected of them — which is to take a critical look at Stanford’s financials, as he did, and try to work out whether they indicate the presence of fraud. Instead, most of the Stanford reporting has been about regulatory investigations — including the SEC investigation which has been dragging on for at least three years now.

  20. Yay! 6 years is many. It is for real an important thing you do Mr. Patterico sir. I will tell you how I think of it. Clicks here are not clicks there. That’s a big damn deal I think.

  21. Bravo, Patterico.

    Happy Anniversary!

You’re the only conservative blog I’m aware of that lets liberals play to win.

That sets you apart in two ways: it makes your blog a model of free speech and free-thought and it helps steer your commenters away from easy assumptions, while assuring them that whatever arguments may well be tested.

The conservative movement can only benefit from that.

    Comment by Hax Vobiscum — 2/17/2009 @ 1:40 pm

  22. oh. I know other blogs what lets liberal peoples comment. You can ask me which ones but I won’t tell you.

    Comment by happyfeet — 2/17/2009 @ 1:43 pm

  23. I sooooo enjoy happyfeet. Hacks, not so much.

    Comment by JD — 2/17/2009 @ 1:44 pm

  24. Conservative blogs that let liberals “play to win” often get overrun with trolls. Patrick has more patience than I do and spends time rooting out the worst of the trolls. Liberal blogs mostly delete comments that don’t agree with them.

  25. Congratulations, Patterico. Yours is still the only blog I read or comment on regularly.

    Comment by Leviticus — 2/17/2009 @ 1:51 pm

  26. That’s “congratulations on 6 successful years”, not “congratulations that yours is the only blog I read or comment on regularly.” My ego’s not that big.

Heh. The English language is a slippery devil.
