Obama’s Inaugural Parade

Filed under: Obama — DRJ @ 8:45 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Mobile, Alabama’s Azalea Trail Maids marched in the 2004 Inaugural and have been invited to participate in Barack Obama’s Inaugural Parade:

Trail Maids

You don’t see that everyday, at least not where I live.

The Trail Maids’ dresses have been described as reminiscent of Gone With the Wind or Disney Princesses, but they remind Alabama State NAACP President Edward Vaughn of slavery … and he is not pleased the Azalea Trail Maids are the only Alabama participants selected by Obama’s Presidential Inaugural Committee.

  1. Well, gee whiz, we sure wouldn’t want to remind him of slavery. At least, not any more than the NAACP constantly reminds us…

  2. You have got to be kidding me! Slavery?! His brain is not firing on all neurons, that is a fact.

    And those dresses? A-may-ZING!!!

    John Hitchcock (fb941d)

  3. And the girl in the peach dress in the front row might not be the descendant of a slave owner and the girl in the second row in the yellow dress has a 95% or higher chance of not being the descendant of a slave owner. Looks like EEOC can’t have any complaints here (especially since the lack of testosterone is not an EEOC claim).

    John Hitchcock (fb941d)

  4. Apparently the election of the nation’s first black president has opened the floodgates on playing the race card at the drop of a hat.

  5. You know what else reminds me of slavery? White people. STOP OPPRESSING ME WITH YOUR LACK OF MELANIN!!!

Also, peach cobbler. It sure is tasty, though.

  6. Ya know, it’s funny now that I think of it. My predecessors were all unwanted in this here land of the free. They were either oppressed or killed or arrived late enough (from a country who made slavery illegal before the US) to just be hated and treated terribly. But from perma-tan status alone, I’m one of the oppressors now, since I’m not only not perma-tanned but not summer-tanned either.

  7. Someone needs to get a life…

  8. Perhaps president Edward Vaughn should take this matter up with President-Elect Barack Obama – old guard racial politics v. the new post-racial Hope and Change…manifesting itself in a nauseating palette of parading pastels harmoniously moving in unison down the streets like a small sugary army of Mashmallow Peeps.

No wonder we are the envy of the world!

  9. I have to assume that either

    A) Very nearly EVERYTHING reminds the man of Slavery

    or

    B) What he really means is “Oh, God! those dresses are the tackiest thing i’ve ever seen outside of a San Francisco Gay Pride Parade. Can’t we come up with something more dignified than THAT?!?”, but he’s hoping that the Slavery tag will get him more traction.

    If it’s “B”, I sympathize.

  10. One presumes that if some of the dress-wearers are black & Hispanic transvestites that everything will be okay?

    Icy Texan (b7d162)

  11. Icy, while the number of transvestites I know is fairly limited, I have to say that I rather suspect that no transvestite would be caught dead is such an damned ugly dress.

  12. RACISTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. So the NAACP is upset about a bunch of women in colorful dresses marching down the street.

But if you dress up like a Klansman and chase a black man (that looks like Obama) it is no problem:

Halloween display aims for ‘shock value’

Democratic backer sends message by showing McCain, in KKK robe, chasing Obama

But the Obama figure looks like he is running, and the McCain likeness is dressed in the hooded robe of the Ku Klux Klan and is carrying a baseball bat.

Georgia Verdier, president of the Elmira-Corning Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said she was concerned about the injection of race into the presidential campaign when someone called her to complain about the scene.

“It looks friendly but I am concerned not so much about this display, but in general about the fear and hate that have entered the campaign,” Verdier said. “This display appears friendly to me. But that’s my take.

So according to liberals, the racist and murdering
rampage that the KKK undertook decades ago is now
    comedy and satire.

    How progressive!!!

How can anybody take these idiot liberals seriously?

Only if you link it to republicans, who are all racists anyways, even though it was Democrats who started the Klan…

  15. Mr. Vaughn? Sir? Sit down and shut up.

    Please. Enough already.

  18. More hypocrisy from the NAACP. I think a good therapist would do wonders for this race baiter.

    eaglewingz08 (ad2cae)

  19. I read that there are going to be a group of drummers there, most of whom are Black. That reminds me of migraines and head hunters – origins of drumming from Africa – so we should ban them.

I read that there’s going to be food there from Hawaii. That reminds me of the bloody ethnic wars that raged for generations between the Samoans and the Hawaiians. So we should ban Hawaiian food.

I read that Obama’s going to be driven in a Lincoln. That’s a car. Cars have killed many people so I think we should ban all cars.

This list is a work in progress. I think I can come up with a lot of dreadful imagery to associate with just about everything planned for this event in D.C.

  23. I once lived across the street from a place that held wedding receptions. The most memorable one had the bride and bridesmaids in similiar dresses.
The bride was outside talking to a guest. Standing on a narrow path, she helpfully moved her dress to the side to let someone pass. Unfortunately, that meant that everyone could see everything under her dress up to her waist. She was not wearing a slip under the dress/petticoat, but had on lovely pantyhose and a garter. She didn’t realize the view she was providing, so it was a few minutes before someone in the wedding party noticed and told her.
