‘Individual D’ Seeks Immunity — Is Obama Supporter

The L.A. Times reports:

A key figure in Illinois Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich’s alleged scheme to sell a U.S. Senate seat has sought immunity from federal authorities in return for his cooperation.

Businessman and political fundraiser Raghuveer P. Nayak is Individual D in the federal complaint, sources said. Individual D was being squeezed by the governor for campaign cash, according to prosecutors, in order to appoint Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) to the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.

The article tells us a little about his donations:

Federal and state election reports show that Nayak, his wife and his businesses for the last decade have donated more than $779,000 and raised hundreds of thousands more for candidates ranging from the Cook County circuit court clerk to Obama.

He has contributed primarily to Democrats but also to Republicans.

Nayak has been a notable contributor and fundraiser for three state officials who have been among the governor’s harshest critics since the scandal broke — Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan, Lt. Gov. Patrick Quinn and Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.

Was he a “notable” contributor to Obama? Let’s look:

That may mean nothing, of course . . . but as long as we’re naming recipients, I thought I’d give specifics on the one whose name was only whispered by the L.A. Times.

And yes, it’s the same Raghuveer P. Nayak (there could be many, after all). The article says he “made his fortune in medical businesses” — even though Joe Biden was overheard saying he must have had a couple of 7-Elevens or Dunkin’ Donuts as well.

    “unethical Democrat” is redundant.

since Juggy himself is unethical, it only stands to reason that his supporters would tend be the same.

  11. Your grasping at straws SPQR. You know as well as anyone Chicago politics involves Republicans too.

I’ll be the first to admit that Dems would of probably handled this thing the way you guys are if everything was reversed, but that doesn’t make it right.

    Anyways,
What can I tell you, vote McCain if you don’t like Obama 😉 instead of still trying to find reasons to pre-impeach him………. or rather take him down a peg for 2012 in case he does right by our country 🙁

I would phrase it this way:

Yeah, NOW you people worry that what a president does to our nation needs to be “fair” and constitutional.

What Dems have done to Bush over the last 8 years was based on decisions made by Bush and his current cabinet during his administration.

It has been SOP for the Left to instantly tack on a wind-shift since the late 30’s when the public position of the Left in this country vis-a-vis Hitler’s Germany would change as relations between Germany and the USSR would change.
In Spring-’39, Germany was described as a Fascist terror; after the Molotov-Ribbintrop Pact, they were Socialist allies; upon “Ruberosa”, they reverted to Fascist oppressors. Every description of Germany by the American Left in that time frame was scripted by the Comintern in Moscow.
Some things never change, only their masters.

  43. Oiram,

Reading is a skill. Patterico quotes the following from the L.A. Times:

Federal and state election reports show that Nayak, his wife and his businesses for the last decade have donated more than $779,000 and raised hundreds of thousands more for candidates ranging from the Cook County circuit court clerk to Obama.

    ***

Nayak has been a notable contributor and fundraiser for three state officials who have been among the governor’s harshest critics since the scandal broke — Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan, Lt. Gov. Patrick Quinn and Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.

Patterico is merely pointing out that the LA Times ignores Obama — whom the paper mentioned — when looking more specifically at the issue of contributions the paper itself raised. The paper mentioned the donations to Obama, but apparently did not deem them “notable” later, so Patterico gives you the data to judge for yourself. He’s no more tying Obama to anything than the three other pols the paper mentions in the “notable” paragraph.

Of course, the alternative interpretation of the LAT story is that the three other pols are among Blago’s “harshest critics” — with the implication that Obama is not. Maybe you prefer that take.

    Karl (f07e38)

  44. Mario has assumed the ostrich position in ignoring the fact that Baracky is closely aligned will all of the corrupt Chicago pols (I know, redundant).

  48. What Dems have done to Bush over the last 8 years was based on decisions made by Bush and his current cabinet during his administration.

Those were the straws we were grasping at SPQR and Scott.

    Comment by Oiram

It’s been pointed out already but it needs to be emphasized. The 2000 election tie, that’s what it was, resulted in the furious attacks on Bush from the day after the election. His appointees were delayed by Democrats in Congress and, as a result, he left some Clinton political appointees in place in DoJ, for example. That later came back to bite Scooter Libby.

Those same delays in getting his administration staffed contributed to the 9/11 attack. Bush, of course, is now blamed for ignoring Clarke’s warning but the warning was not specific and his administration was still only half in place at the time of the attack.

Pointing out Obama’s associations is far less damaging to the country than what happened with Bush on the part of the Democrats. I have been unhappy with many of his actions over the past 8 years but his administration was crippled the first six months by unprecedented interference by Congress and the Democrats.

NK, I would not practice surgery in Chicago and once explained the miserable state of medical ethics in that city to my relatives. Chicago has been an ethical cesspool for over a century. Not just in politics, either. Obama came from a very questionable background. Given what the Democrats did to Bush, he has been handled with kid gloves, possibly because of his race.
