The Barack Obama Day

Filed under: Obama — DRJ @ 2:03 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Perry County, Alabama, voted over 70% for Barack Obama in the November election and now its Commissioners have voted to honor him with The Barack Obama Day:

“The Perry County Commission voted 4 to 1 to observe the second Monday in November as “The Barack Obama Day.” County offices will close and its roughly 40 workers will get a paid holiday.”

How appropriate to honor the “spread the wealth” candidate by giving county workers a day off with pay – at taxpayers’ expense – in recognition of a man who hasn’t even taken office yet.

  3. The Barack Obama holiday honors an inspiring man from humble origins who, with pluck and luck and determination, but not without his share of racial preferences and quotas, became President-elect of all the people, and without even being a natural-born citizen. Only in America!

I actually agree with you on this one.

It’s backwards thinking to give people a day off based on a president elect who has not done anything to prove himself worthy as of yet.

  10. As of the 2000 Census, 68% of the population of Perry County was black. I’m sure that didn’t have anything to do with Obama carrying the County or the vote for the holiday and am merely pointing it out as an interesting coincidence.

Keep in mind that the faux Mensa – level commenter here just made an inane statement in the prior thread, detailing his great thoughts regarding how the GOP barely eked out a victory in wacist – as – hell Georgia. I’m not sure how even Petey can classify a run – off election advantage of 60 to 40 an “eke,” but that’s what passes for intelligence in his widdle world of wonda. He’s quite a vacant Shirley to be sure, but what else can you expect.

  20. On Obamaday – and it will be one word – you will be required to attend diversity training at your local college, university, or government office. Failure to attend will result in you being sent to mandatory diversity/sensitivity/sexual harassment training for one month, and then standing in front of your peers proclaiming your allegiance to The ONE, and begging forgiveness for being a neanderthal. You will also have to renounce your guns and religion, and denounce those who don’t conform.

Dana, the problem is people here and Conservatives at large are the ones calling Obama “The One” and “The Messiah”.

Perhaps they are the ones that are holding our incoming president to those types of standards. You of all people should know how dangerous that is.

Senator Chambliss had defeated Mr Martin in the general election, but the presence of third party candidates meant that Mr Chambliss received only 49.8% of the votes. In the run-off, he beat Mr Martin 61% to 39%. It doesn’t seem as though he “needed” Governor Palin’s help.

Of course, if your suggestion is accurate, that he needed Mrs Palin’s help, then it becomes clear that Sarah Palin adds 11% of the total vote to the candidate she supports. 🙂

    The mathematical genius Dana (556f76)

Really? This thread is about a county which just voted a paid holiday to honor a man who has been elected president but hasn’t actually served a single day in that office yet. I’m not certain, but I rather doubt that nk and Scott Jacobs were the ones who voted this in.

Yes in the state of Georgia.

Why? Do you think that the denizens of a blue state would have shot her?

No, my guess is that she wouldn’t of even tried to campaign for a senator here. She might of cost him 11% here in California.

Ironic, this week I heard on the news that San Juan Capistrano city officials voted to close all City Hall offices with workers taking 10 unpaid days off during the holidays to help with budget deficits. Only Police & Fire Depts will remain open. I’m so glad Perry County has escaped the budget crisis so many other counties/cities are facing. I guess that Hope stuff really works.

Oiram – No. These are nicknames Obama supporters have come up with themselves. Don’t blame us. Don’t blame us either when Baracky said in the speech after he clinched his nomination that it marked the day the oceans stopped rising and the earth stated healing. Look inward.

  37. Comment by Peter — 12/3/2008 @ 4:34 pm

    No!
    The more accurate metric is that with BHO on the ballot, Martin got 46% of the vote;
Without the star-power of “The One”, Martin received 40% of the vote.

And, he refused to go to GA to campaign for Martin in the Run-off!

    Another Drew (240de7)

  38. Is there anything grown, made, manufactured in this country that I can leave off my shopping list?

Barack didn’t go down to Ga to play the banjo, he sent Slick Willie and democrats hid their children so he couldn’t ask them to play the flute and then they forgot to vote.

daleyrocks is 100% correct, the nicknames came from liberals and the term ‘magic negro, came from the democrats. Don’t blame republicans for ‘spreading the wealth’ of nicknames. The republicans came up with ’empty suit’ which BHO is still proving fits to a ‘T’.

I hesitate to make too much of this point because we agree in principle, but ….

Don’t you see the irony of Obama talking repeatedly about the morality of wealth sharing? He did it not only with Joe the Plumber but he said something similar regarding the payment of bonuses to the CEOs of the Big 3 automakers.

I don’t care whether you think his position is well-intentioned “do-unto-others” rhetoric or you think he’s a socialist. The point is Obama likes to talk about people making sacrifices for the general good. It looks to me like these supporters didn’t get the message.

  42. Friends, keep in mind that Dear Leader’s birthday is August 4, and we don’t currently have a paid federal holiday that falls between Independence Day and Labor Day. You can bet that President Angelina Jolie Pitt will sign into law a bill creating Obama Day by the middle of 2018.

It was a Democrat Jewish member of Congress who likened Obama to Jesus. It was none other than Oprah Winfrey who first called Obama “The One” in a reference to the novel The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.

MSM outlets Time and Newsweek have been less excitable. They only call him FDR and Lincoln.

Angelina Jolie leans right, as does her father. Brad Pitt is the Clooney-style ‘faux Hollywood’ carbon footprint liberal.

There aren’t too many actors who are more qualified than an empty suit Jr. Senaotor, but I do think Angelina Jolie would have a better grasp of world affairs over Barack-elect. Just based on her travels and interests..

  52. I know what I’ll be doing for B.O. Day!

Come to think of it, Obama’s initials may turn out quite fitting to his administration. So to the Democrats elected to the presidency since the 1930s and often identified by the first letters of their names — FDR, JFK, LBJ — we now have BO!

    Mark (411533)

  53. Angelina Jolie leans right, as does her father.

Wow, what leads you to this conclusion? Just because earlier this past summer she told an interviewer that she was still deciding whether to vote for McCain or Obama? Do you want to bet money on which gentleman she ended up pulling the lever for? Yeah, her dad has expressed some conservative views, but aren’t he and Jolie somewhat estranged?

    JVW (bff0a4)

  54. From what you mention and the things I’ve read, she leans right. Pitt says she’s impossible about politics, they argue, etc etc. Her father wrote that great op-ed for WaPo and he attended a fundraiser for a So Cal Congressman (Rohrabacher).

I’m sure that neither of this uber couple speaks out because of their fan base… unlike Brad’s bud, Clooney. And Jolie doesn’t get along with him, which is another interesting aspect. I would bet a theater popcorn she voted McCain. She would also relate to the grit and motherhood values of Palin. (Aniston is a hardcore Obot, for what it’s worth.)

    Vermont Neighbor (5ea336)

  55. Since everyone in Hollywood was desperate to play up to Obama, her response was measured:

Well, this does explain much. Apparently Oiram sees letters that aren’t there. In directly quoting the word “county” (see the original here) he saw an “r” where there was none, even though he cut-and-pasted it. 🙂

  63. Obama Day! Parallels George Day!

Political novel written in 2006 parallels the recent election of the 44th president of the United States. The novel ‘George’s Flag’ is the fictional story of the creation of a third political party and the election of the first Hispanic-American president. The novel parallels the recent election of the first African-American president including Perry County Alabama’s recent passage of Obama Day!

The novel was written in 2006 and is a commentary on American politics – if the government can not provide for the needs of the people; the people will find a way to provide those needs themselves. The novel was published May 2007 and accurately guessed political messages, strategies, incidents and possible future policies that parallel the recent election of the 44th president of the United States, including Obama Day!

In the novel, the current administration is ineffective and unresponsive to the needs of the average American. America needed a hero. Americans needed a politician they could believe in and a champion of the people emerges, a third political party and their nominee for president is a minority who is a dynamic speaker. Their message is Hope – Hope for a better life for parents and hope for a better life for their children; Hope for a better America. The novel parallels the Obama campaign as Senator Barack Obama, in real life, was that hero and his campaign provided that much needed message – Hope!

Phrases in the novel parallel several speeches Senator Obama gave during the election including a phrase Senator Obama used in the second Presidential debate October 7, 2008 – “America is the greatest nation on earth!”
