David Gregory: No Tim Russert
David Gregory will be replacing Tim Russert on “Meet the Press.”
The loss of Russert feels even more stinging than before.
A reminder of Gregory’s style of questioning here.
EDIT: Pablo notes the reports of Gregory’s promotion may be premature.

David Gregory to replace Tim Russert? Next, they will replace Arnold Shwartzenneger with Wally Cox in the Terminator series.

Gee I thought Gregory would run for office with all his White House experience.

Barack Whatshisname won’t appear on Fox, Republicans should refuse to appear on NBC. Or ABC. Or CBS. Or CNN.

Not so fast…
HuffPo has the same update. The Times is behind the curve. Go figure.
Gregory would be a really lousy choice.

This is Gregory’s consolation prize for losing out to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC.
He’ll be a perfectly adequate meat puppet for the Defnese department — I mean network.

Ick… just… oh, dear… just… ick.

I glanced at the news of Gregory’s prospective new role on Meet The Press–and thought to myself that the sun doesn’t shine on the same dog’s hindquarters every day. If you are a conservative, as I am, you simply batten down the mental and political hatches for a long sail through troubled waters. Gregory’s appointment is just a sign of the shoals and reefs ahead for people who are not infatuated with the Lightworker.
As for the Lightworker’s not taking any questions from Fox News–he’s more than a bit of a lightweight twit. That may enrage Fox News enough to go out and find a copy of Obama’s Occidental, Columbia and Harvard Law transcripts so they can compare GPAs with Dubya. Journalism as opposed to fawning over a candidate may come into play again.

Gregory is a tool.

You are all wrong!
David Gregory will do a good job on MTP. He is the only sane person on MSNBC right now.
Comment by MayBee (613232) — 12/2/2008 @ 8:37 am
Why, Mike, don’t you know that President-elect Obama is brilliant? The MSM and pundits all say so. Why would pesky transcripts mean anything? Besides, his major was very difficult and challenging.
Right?
But you are spot on: I well remember hearing how freaking brilliant Al Gore and John Kerry are, and to put it mildly, the transcripts don’t bear that out.
I’m looking forward to those transcripts being released. I know people who taught the man in Los Angeles, and the are not Republicans…but their opinions differ from the MSM on this subject.

MayBee #10: is “the only sane person on MSNBC right now” the very definition of damned by faint praise?

Gregory’s drunken rant on the old Imus show still brings out the funny for me – a complete, partisan asshat.

Chuck Todd just had the football pulled from him.

Fairness Doctrine?
– or will the upcoming legislation only apply to Rush, Hannity, Ingram, etc.
Comment by Perfect Sense (9d1b08) — 12/2/2008 @ 9:53 am
Gregory sucks (*&^% &^&( and is a liberal hack if ever there was one. What were they thinking. (Oh yeah, I forgot, it is NBC after all.)
Comment by J. Raymond Wright (d83ab3) — 12/2/2008 @ 10:08 am
Outrageous- another right-leaning talking head. MTP should go with someone at least easy on the eyes and/or with wealth of experience, incorporating multi-cultural aspects, if possible. Helen Thomas comes to mind as someone fair and probing. Or maybe Gwen Ifil, whose Obama paean comes out Inauguration day. Or do really shake things up the multi-talented Rosie O’Donnell. Isn’t it about time that lesbians get a fair shake in America, especially one so logical and wise?
Fairness doctrine is apropos because the media is controlled by far right extremists who pay filthy liars like dittohead mega bucks for being outrageous pawns of the evil/stupid BusHitler regime.

For what it’s worth, I lay claim to being the first to definitively say (on this blog, the day after Russert’s death, I believe) that Gregory would be Russert’s replacement. Anyone that ever thought it would be anyone else wasn’t paying very good attention.
Oh, and Gregory “lost out” to Maddow because they were saving him for MTP all along. Doesn’t sound like much of a “loss” to me, Ehrenstein (God, what a tool you are!). One hour a week that will outperform her 5 hours (plus repeats) in the ratings? I’ll take that “consolation prize” any day.

From Huntley & Brinkley, to David Gregory?
Was Jon Stewart not available?

Icy,
I like your new name. Are you near my zip code?

Careful, he’ll like that designation.

Now, Dmac, I’m sick. It’s not fair to post things that make me laugh my head off right now.
But then, that is your style: surgical precision humor.

NBC has a great bench full of field reporters but few long in the tooth journalists who could helm MTP. All their reporters are good for 3 minute bites but nobody has the ‘anchor’ status of a Russert, Brokaw… or for that matter, a Williams, albeit Williams is a bit of an old lady at times. Andrea Mitchell has more gravitas– and contacts in DC than Gregory could hope for. But NBC should look outside its box. Jim Lehrer would be a good one to throw this bone to.. if he’d leave the safety of PBS.
Comment by Dave C. (d8da01) — 12/2/2008 @ 2:58 pm
Andrea Mitchell? Do you mean the loyal Obamatron who gave daily talking points direct from Axelrod during the election? She beclowned herself completely over the past year – no cred whatsoever is left. You…have…got…to…be…kidding…me.
Comment by Dmac (e30284) — 12/2/2008 @ 3:24 pm
Dmac, according to HuffPo, both Andrea Mitchell and now infamous-I’ll-be-objective debate moderator, Gwen Ifill were also considered as Russert replacements. Go figure.
Comment by Dana (79a78b) — 12/2/2008 @ 6:42 pm
There has not been any reason to watch MTP for a couple of years.
It does not matter who is lead partisan of MTP.
I no longer go to that channel during MTP broadcast. If you stop on the channel, that stop, can and will be used for ratings.
I removed CNN from televison in August. Ratings equal revenue. Why give money to those who hate honesty and the truth?

DRJ, if your zip code is where I think it is, I am very close.
