Obama: Selfish Americans

Gateway Pundit: “Obama Blasts “Selfish” Americans For Not Wanting to Pay Higher Taxes.”

Obama views middle class and wealthy people as selfish if they put material needs first, but Obama-Claus’s “astoundingly lengthy list of promises” to lower-income voters suggests he expects these voters to *selfishly* vote based on their wallets.

  1. What you aren’t understanding, DRJ, is that lower-income voters are “entitled” to all the goodies that Obama is promising.

  2. At least it is being made clear that sacrifice of untold dimensions would be involved in electing such as him, the furthest left in the senate. Applicants for the highest security clearance should get no presumption of innocence, but bad assocaitions and affinities should disqualify.

  4. I’m certainly glad for unselfish americans: I live in a big east coast city and its good that other people who live far from terrorist targets pay taxes to defend my town.

Middle class americans gonna get a tax cut.

  5. He’s going to need all of that tax money to bail out working Americans
such as the impoverished municipal workers in Vallejo CA,
where a Police Capt makes $300K, and firefighters take home $171K, or more
(source: George Will, The Washington Post, 9/11/08, Pension Time Bomb).
Impoverishment so severe that the City is in Bankruptcy Court,
because they can’t pay what they owe into the pension fund for their own workers.
This is a fore-warning of what is coming to every municipality and state gov’t that has handed the keys of the treasury to the public-worker unions.

  6. Barrak Obama is practiced at the art of deception. Lies fall from his lips as easily as leaves fall from October trees. He’s a false prophet and in a free country he would be laughed into oblivion and insignificance.

  7. Eff-ing A, it’s class warfare!
You started it. Do something about it.
Why do you now hate America? Doncha just hate the fact that so many people are gonna vote. Lots of voting is, after all, bad for Republicans. What does that say about democracy and your point of view.
Small “d” democracy is suddenly huge. Watch out.
    Trickle down, my plumbers-butt crack.
I’ll be watching for your estimation of Obama’s attempts to pull us out of the mess the de-regulators got us into — I’m sure you’ll act like he started out with a blank slate rather than the deepest economic hole since the 1930s.
That will be the refrain in the coming months and years: Why do you hate America?

  8. I wouldn’t even call Republicans selfish — they’re just deluded. They actually think that there is some mysterious “other” getting all the help from the government that Obama’s offering. They get by on being bitter at these people who “don’t work” getting help from the government, who are causing all of their problems. When in fact, Obama is trying to help THEM, and there’s really nobody underneath them.

They’re the ones whose wages have stagnated or decreased in the past two decades. They’re the ones who’s only piece of the last bull market was the equity in their homes — which then disappeared as soon as they borrowed against it.

But thanks to the Republicans, they’re also the ones afraid that someone else — be it immigrants, muslims, single moms, gays getting married, minorities, women — are causing them to keep falling behind while a lucky few seem to be getting all of the benefits of our current economic system.

What’s astounding about Joe the Plumber and his adherents is that they are EXACTLY who Obama will be helping — but they’re been so brainwashed by the paranoid Republican ideology that “those other people are taking what’s yours” that they actually think they’re going to be hurt by an Obama presidency.

  9. Mary needs to be reminded that the current financial problem was not precipitated by de-regulation,
    but by non-regulation.

It was the determined opposition of any further regulation of the sub-prime market at Fannie and Freddie by the Dems in Congress that gave us the current mess.
The defaults on home mortgages is inexerably tied to virtually every facet of the financial melt-down on Wall Street, and that can all be traced back to Fannie/Freddie, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and the Dems that ran the two GSE’s.

  11. I wish Obama had spent more than a few years in the private sector – he would never make that kind of statement if he’d been forced to watch how his take – home pay is directly affected by tax rates. Academia and political offices are rarely affected, due to the availability of annual tuition revenue increases and public funding increases.

  12. Do Americans still not have the right to be as disgustingly selfish as they want or are we going to see not only our economic system become collectively equalized for the state who will make sure everything is fair, but also the government control the characteristics of its citizens lest they not be lock-step with the Leader? There will be no selfishness! There will only be Joe Biden’s patriotism!

Harrison Bergeron, the writing is indeed on the wall.

THE YEAR WAS…2008… and everybody was finally equal. They weren’t only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.

  13. They’re the ones whose wages have stagnated or decreased in the past two decades.

No, illegal immigration is why wages have stagnated. Why pay someone 10 an hour when you can pay some “undocumented” worker 7? And they won’t bitch about a pay raise, because they know you’ll just get someone ELSE at 7 an hour.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Your taxes will increase, your investments will suffer, and your retirement will dry up. Your job will be at risk, and you will have EAGERLY asked for it all to happen.

YOU will be the cause, not us. You, and your “make them pay their fair share” friends will cause the second Great Depression.

  14. why dont we take a good look at obamas back ground. Like who paid for his harvard schooling , his trip to the middle east when he was in school , his room and board , food and all his other expenses, he comes from a single parent household, his mom was in indonesia at the time, where did the money come from? Why did he stay with a church that had a preacher that he didnt agree with, for twenty years and he let this man that he now denounces babtize his children. The man obviously could not get a high security clearance if he was in the military . The people that mindlessly (it seems) follow obama , dont seem to care about his background , the same way cultist dont care about the leaders they are giving all their money and time to,i have some oceanfront property in utah i would like to sell all the obama fans. i remind you this man is not running for mayor of some podunk town , its for president of the greatest nation in the world, we need to know everything about him. forget what he says about the issues at hand , anyone can get up in front of a crowd and tell the crowd what they want to hear , we need to know who this man really is

  15. Fair turn: “selfish” is a really dumb word for Obama to use.

  16. A rising tide lifts all boats – at least that’s what capitalism’s promise used to be regarded in most quarters. Granted, there have been (and always will be) some egregious pigs at the trough in recent years, and they should be prosecuted via civil court (see Lehman, Countrywide, etc). But a radical redistribution in this manner will only prolong the current financial stresses – when has any country spent itself out of a recession? It would be one thing if Obama was primarily targeting our country’s massive infrastructure needs with his plan (highways, railroad lines, electrical grid); at least I’d be lukewarm about his tax increases.

    Dmac (e30284)

  17. “Middle class americans gonna get a tax cut.”

Yeah, right. It’ll be just like when they first started up the federal income tax. “Don’t worry”, they said “only millionaires will have to pay it”.

And, that was true…for a few years.

    Ain’t true anymore, is it?

    Dave Surls (47b62c)

  18. “The reason that we want to do this, change our tax code, is not because I have anything against the rich. I love rich people!”–messiah

Duh. You and the missus are now making 4 mil a year. Obviously, you love rich people.

    Dave Surls (47b62c)

  19. In my fathers effects is a letter that promises that the income tax will NEVER go over 2%. And Democrats like Sen. Obama wonder why we don’t trust him or his empty promises of “tax cuts”. The people who defend this man are just fooling themselves.

No one really believes that the housing crisis is “100% the Republicans fault” except the people who believe that Obama is going to put gas in their tank and pay their mortgage.

    tyree (5c7d89)

  20. Yes, Obama has not ever evidenced that kind of selfishness. He calls for increased taxes but refuses to pay the quarter million dollars in additional taxes that he would have had to pay had his proposals been in effect since 2002.
He hasn’t displayed that selfishness with respect to his brother living on a dollar a month in Africa. (Where do you think the brother got that dollar a month from=Obama)
And Obama’s selfishness certainly wasn’t present with respect to the aunt and uncle in Boston who were featured in his book. I mean it was the height of selflessness for Obama to not give a couple of grand to his aunt so that she wouldn’t be evicted. And it was true generousity for Obama not to hire an immigration law attorney to represent the aunt before ICE and to press her appeals. And it was true Christian charity for Obama not to sponsor a special bill to grant permanent residency and/or citizenship for his aunt and uncle. That’s the meaning of family.

So with Obama, true charity is not only not being one’s brother’s keeper but not being one’s aunt’s or uncle’s keeper, that job is for the government and non relatives to perform.

    eaglewingz08 (98291e)

  21. Obama calling us out for selfishness?

He ought to look at himself–another impoverished relative was just discovered. His dear auntie from his book. Living in public housing, illegal immigrant.

    Hypocrite!

  22. “What’s astounding about Joe the Plumber and his adherents is that they are EXACTLY who Obama will be helping — but they’re been so brainwashed by the paranoid Republican ideology that “those other people are taking what’s yours” that they actually think they’re going to be hurt by an Obama presidency.”

Hey Phil? “Joe the Plumber and his adherents” aren’t children, and they don’t need a daddy giving them presents to get through their day-to-day lives. This “voting against your economic interests” nonsense is about 10 years past its due date. Your patronizing “help” is neither wanted nor appreciated–being dependent on the government from the time you are born until the time you die is in nobody’s economic interest.

And I see now that Bill Richardson is stating that the income level for the so-called tax cut has dropped to $120,000. Do I hear $100,000?

Tell you what, Phil. Nothing is stopping you from giving more in income taxes every year. Put your money where your big flappy mouth is and prove that the government doesn’t have to hold a gun to your head in order for you to contribute.

    Chris (575024)

  23. Well said, Chris. Some people are smart enough to vote on issues more sophisticated than getting an extra 10 bucks in their pocket.

    Patricia (ee5c9d)

  24. Newflash – McCain’s tax plan is to increase taxes for 95% of hardworking Americans and give it away to welfare recipients.

You heard it here first, so it must be true.
