Organizers of Anti-Iran Rally Threatened with Loss of Tax-Exempt Status if Palin Invited

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:59 pm

I figure most of you already know about this, but you deserve a thread to discuss it.

As Allah says, name ’em and shame ’em — and “get in their faces” — just like Obama wauld do.

  1. The left loves making beds for itself that it will later be unable to sleep in.

Does this mean that MSNBC will lose its press credentials, now that they’ve admitted bias by demoting the two idiot Obama campaign officials that anchored the convention coverage?

How about the value of the media coverage? Will that be added into campaign contributions? Will conservatives be due an additional 2 to 3 billion in compensatory funding?

  2. Hope and Change have been replaced with Fear and Hatred.

The most ethical Congress ever, isn’t.

And some people on the left would rather sit down and talk to a man who believes setting bombs for socialist change is okay than a person who believes that unborn children are still children.

None of which surprises me, as I know quite a few Democrats.

  4. Phyllis Chessler at PJM says get in their faces by getting on the phone:

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency has just confirmed that Governor Sarah Palin–a strong supporter of Israel–has been disinvited from the rally against President Ahmadinejad. I suggest that my readers call the Conference of Presidents to protest this short-sighted and outrageous decision. Their number is 212-318-6111.

  5. It had to be Obama or his wife who was behind the threats. Obama’s several cat’s paws took the lead so if the extortion came to light, he could deny he was involved.

The orders had to come from the top. No subordinate or underling would have taken it upon themselves to put Obama’s campaign in such a potential hot spot without the go signal from the boss.

  6. The MSM has exposed themselves as partisan in their brazen promotion of Obama, their thinly-disguised hatred of Governor Palin, and laughable “fact-checking” of the season’s campaign ads. Whoever is the first writer to detail this in a hardcover book is guaranteed a #1 NY Times non-fiction bestseller regardless of who wins the election.

If anyone who is willing to take up this mission is reading, I have a few titles you are welcome to steal, because I will not write the book. The suggested subtitle: How America’s Mainstream Media Disgraced Itself As It Pushed For the Election of Barack Obama. Suggested main titles: BACKFIRED (if McCain wins); THE DE-EVOLUTION WILL BE TELEVISED (if Obama wins). Suggestions are welcome.

P.S. Before the Emmy broadcast begins, I want to reiterate my earlier prediction that out of anti-Republican spite, Hollywood will reward Laura Dern for her insulting portrayal of Katherine Harris in Recount with the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries.

  7. The old Saul Alinsky playbook in action.

Dostoevski said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution.

That’s why he has to pull down the economic house of the US to get his way. Another aspect of his theory is enunciated by his other mentor, Bill Ayres.

  9. Marcia Kramer, the CBS 2 HD reporter on whose story the Hot Air post is based, actually doe NOT tell us who threatened the Conference of Presidents’ tax exempt status, and she does not tell us who her sources are. See http://wcbstv.com/campaign08/clinton.palin.event.2.821565.html

She does quote 2 Dems who were apparently appalled by the Dems behaviour. However,Hikind, while a Democrat, is supporting McCain, see
    http://jewish-politics-ny.com/tag/mccain/

And Kunst, purportedly of Defenders.net (whatever that is) seems to be an interesting character who was such a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter that it is unlikely he would ever vote for Obama. See,
    http://www.hillarynow.com/kunst.htm

However, none of this takes away from the fact that Democratic groups DID apply pressure upon the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations to disinvite Palin. See these links to some of the actual groups providing the pressure. http://www.njdc.org/blog/post/njdc_calls_for_withdrawal_of_palin_invitation_to_iran_rally

IMHO, in June, Charles Schumer released a letter suggesting IndyMac Bank was doomed for the purpose of a) causing a run on it, and b) to trigger a nationwide chain reaction of failures, followed by bailouts. I’ve said it before, and see no reason to back down from it. I will admittedly probably never be able to unearth evidence proving this, but I believe it nonetheless.

    L.N. Smithee (b011d1)

  11. Mike K, thanks for your comment at #7. It’s impossible to understand Dems or the Left’s agenda without some knowledge of Alinsky. Ayres is just as dangerous, and Obama is Ayres creation.

  12. This is intriguing: http://ace.mu.nu/archives/273925.php

Monday should be interesting. I hope Axelrod’s tit get caught in the ringer. I have never seen a tit caught in the ringer, but I suspect it hurts alot.

Now I knew what that old phrase meant, but I did not know who it is attributed to. Go figure, Katherine Graham at the Washington Post:

What “ringer”? An alarm clock? A doorbell? Quasimodo? Is it a reference to horseshoes?

Of course not. She meant to say, “tits caught in the wringer,” a phrase made most famous by WashPost publisher Katherine Graham. (For all you Gen Xers, we’re talking about a hand-cranked clothes wringer that would pinch laundry dry on wash day.) But by getting all Midwest prissy and trying to craft a PG version of this vulgarism, she confused the copy editors (and possibly Kotlowitz) and gutted any meaning from it. Hell, woman, if you spend your time rousing up your neighbors because your Mexican neighbors aren’t “American” enough, saying “tits” in a national magazine is the least of your worries.

  13. !&*$$#@!!!! Damn. A long comment went into the ether.

Anyhow, in abridged form without links to sources, the original author, at CBS 2 HD really doesn’t name her sources and the Dems she qoutes Hikind and Kunst probably never would cast a vote for the annointed one. Hikind had already announced for McCain.

So, the reference to a threat to the tax exempt status of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations may be a bit of overstatement.

    Ira (28a423)

  14. No surprises here. This will no doubt backfire on the Dems and bite them in the *ss and quite frankly, they deserve it. This is the most entertaining election ever! McCain-Palin 2008!

  15. I don’t care who threatened them, it was their business to stand up to the threats. By canceling Palin the organisers made it clear that they don’t need the publicity she would have drawn to the rally, or the additional people who hadn’t been planning to come, but would have come to hear her. Well, I figure if they don’t think they need that publicity or those people, then they don’t need me either. I had been planning to attend the rally even before Palin was invited; when that was announced it was a bonus for me. But now that she’s been disinvited I’m not going to bother attending.

And I think it was very unwise of them to give a slap in the face to the woman who might be the next VP, and perhaps a future president. “Who is wise? He who sees what’s coming.”

  20. I’m a bit confused. I have heard of many occasions when a Democratic nominee spoke at a church, with no threat to the tax-exempt status of those churches.

    How is that any different?

    here

    And Patterico?

Looks like Sarah Palin will be speaking at a “protest Iran” event, this one protesting a dinner “in honor” of Ahmadawhackjob given by so-called “religious leaders.”

    Darleen (187edc)

  22. Darleen, great link to Palin appearance. I can’t wait to see American women in the media rally around her for standing up to and vocally protesting a man who has terrorized and viciously oppressed the women of Iran and that they have all written about accordingly. It’ll be a sisterhood of solidarity, crossing all political lines!

    Paging MoDo! Arianna! Rosa Brooks!

  23. Darlene #21: Thanks for the link.
There is no question that the facts show that Jewish Democratic groups pressured the Conference of Presidents to dis-invite Palin. (My “lost” comment included links to the pressure groups’ own web sites.) However, there does not yet seem to be reliable evidence that the Conference was threatened with the loss of its tax exempt status.

I couldn’t have been happier to be wrong.

I feared that this year’s Emmys would become the Demmys, and that a case could have been made for this year’s awards that the nominees leftward activism was the deciding factor in their victories. The first inkling that wasn’t going to be the case in the Emmys was the loss of Susan Sarandon.

OTOH, I did find it suspicious as zell that they gave a special award to Tommy Smothers, knowing there’s no way he’s voting for McCain. He came durn close to crossing over the non-partisan line that it appeared were drawn by the producers of the broadcast.

Certainly, that case can be made for the 2007 Grammy Awards, which saw Al Gore winning an award for his audiobook of his latest book and fading former megagroup Dixie Chicks sweep Best Album, Best Song and Record of the Year awards when they weren’t even nominated for corresponding awards in the country music world. If you slipped sodium penthathol to Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse (bka Gnarls Barkley), I believe they would tell you they know they should have won Record of the Year for “Crazy.”

  25. Today’s Jerulalem Post has an excellent article by Caroline Glick. She says two Jewish groups, one led by a Democrat Party supporter, and the other by a an apologist for the PLO, raised the “tax exempt” shibboleth to silence Sarah Palin.

They didn’t want to allow Palin a platform to voice her strong support for Israel for fear she would draw Jewish votes away from Obama.

My finger pointing at #5 above that it was most likely to have been Obama himself, or his wife, who made the decision to disinvite Palin was hasty and foolish speculation. I apologize to Mr and Mrs Obama and to those who read and comment here.
