Has ABC or Any Other News Organization Asked Either Obama or Biden If They Agree With the “Bush Doctrine”?
Posted by WLS:
As formulated by Gibson, the “Bush Doctrine” is nothing more than the right of pre-emptive self-defense. Others have focused on that provision of the Doctrine that makes no differentiation between terrorist organizations and the rogue states that harbor them.
Both Obama and Biden are on record as supporting the war in Afghanistan — the “right” war they have called it.
Well, the Taliban was the soverign governmental authority in Afghanistan in October 2001. The Taliban did not attack the US, AQ did. But the Taliban gave sanctuary to AQ.
So, if the Afghan war is a legitimate use of military force, then Obama and BIden must support the “Bush Doctrine.”
Given that to be the case, what’s the point of Gibson’s question?
Biden also voted in favor of the Iraq war, and has consistently voted to fund the military operations there. So, Biden must also be a supporter of that tenent of the Bush Doctrine that advances the right of pre-emptive self-defense.

The only point of Gibson’s question was to try to get a “gotcha” moment. All he did was get himself.

I suspect that it is racist to even ask such questions.
Comment by JD — 9/12/2008 @ 12:13 pm
I thought the point of the question was obvious — to generate one of the following headlines:
1. Palin = Bush;
2. Palin abandons Bush; or
3. Palin = clueless
But it wasn’t a “gotcha” question, according to some.

Slightly OT: Check the AoSHQ headlines sidebar for the latest in Sully derangement. It’s so delish, I can’t spoil it.

The fact is, the “Bush Doctrine” is a policy position and runs over 30 pages. The idea that one can boil down a 30 page document to a single sentence is way on out there.

James — he didn’t even at first give her the benefit of a single sentence — he only gave her the short-hand title.

6, Yes, but the tinfoil hat brigade, many of whom infest ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, NPR, and PBS, believe that it is just what they say it is. Forget that there is a paper, paper trail or public record. Same as WMD being the only justification for going into Iraq.
Comment by PCD — 9/12/2008 @ 12:23 pm
Karl, if it wasn’t a gotcha question he would have spelled out what policy he was referring to at the very beginning, as opposed to throwing out the generic — and completely unofficial — term “Bush Doctrine” and expecting her to somehow know what he meant. If it wasn’t a deliberate attempt to play “gotcha”, then it was an incredibly poorly worded question. Either way, it reflects badly on the interviewer, not the interviewee.
Comment by Icy Truth — 9/12/2008 @ 12:23 pm
Karl – Spot on. That question was nothing more than a headline generator.
Comment by JD — 9/12/2008 @ 12:26 pm
Icy Truth,
I completely agree. Probably should have added the /sarc tag.

New Sitcom debuts on ABC’S Fall lineup: whereas a poor, white trash mother with too many mouths to feed and a husband who only knows how to fish for salmon, finds her elder wiseman, who gives her the comeuppance and direction that she so obviously lacks.
Charles in Charge
Charles in charge…
Of our days…
And our nights…
Comment by Dmac — 9/12/2008 @ 12:28 pm
Well, i watched that part of the interview and Palin forced “Charlie” to define what he meant by that question. “Charlie” then proceded to make a fool of himself when he defined what he thought the bush doctrine was.

My bad, Karl. Guess I picked the wrong week to stop huffing spray paint.
– Did you see that, lefties? That’s called “admitting when you make a mistake”. Feel free to try it sometime.
Comment by Icy Truth — 9/12/2008 @ 12:33 pm
Icy,
Wasn’t even a mistake, really. Print can be ambiguous. JD got it because he knows me better.
But agree with your last point in general.

Folks, for those of you who have not had the pleasure of reading Karl’s primary and general election analysis, you are missing out.

#16 Indeed.

And not JD, as of 5:02 easter standard time, no correction or acknowlegement from ABC of the redacted quote or the interview “edit”.

It is good to see you Karl.

“eastern” time. Allthough I think ABC wouldn’t mind if I looked over at the cute bunnies.

Bush doctrine..
Hermann Goering quotes
“Naturally the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

Slanders?? SPQR?? Calling Bush a criminal responsible for the deaths of thousands as a result of his arrogance and lies is a slander? Your pretty soft on crime, arent you? I suppose if I say OJ Simpson was a killer you would say that I was slandering him too..
The facts are plain. Bush was sleeping when the terrorists attacked, took advantage of our fears and led us into a war with lies and half truths. I am damn sick and tired of explaining these lies to those that dont care to examine the obvious and care more about electing Repubs than the future and even security of this country. The V Plame incident proved that…along with dozens of others
You think supporting the troops means not questioning the reasons they were sent and replacing thought with mindlessly chanting USA! USA! USA! Reminds me of Germany 1938. Dont question the Glorious Leader. He will keep us safe! Dissent is treason! Destroy the Liberal enemies of the state! Keep us safe from the (jews, blacks, Muslims, Catholics, liberals, gays, terrorists) Pick one and you can find a Repub to support you..
Comment by VietEraVet — 9/12/2008 @ 7:29 pm
VietEraVet, those are not facts. You are a cheap slanderer. If you are sick and tired, it is from your own continual repetition of falsehood and vile slander such as you just spewed.

– NO. In print it is libel.

– Conservatives? Not.
I suppose if I say OJ Simpson was a killer you would say that I was slandering him too..
– Of course not. There was physical blood on his hands.
The facts are plain. Bush was sleeping when the terrorists attacked,
– He’s criminally responsible for the deaths on 9/11 as well?
took advantage of our fears and led us into a war with lies and half truths. I am damn sick and tired of explaining these lies to those that dont care to examine the obvious
– That’s “telling,” not “explaining”.
and care more about electing Repubs than the future and even security of this country.
– It is because of our future security that we care about electing the conservative candidate.

Does anyone inquired as to if Sarah Palin has a college degree? I think if someone is a” Heart Beat” from the Presidency they should have some type of college degree. Most professional jobs require such. Should we not hold our candidates (elected officials) for VP or President to same standard?

It could be a tricky question for Biden, but Obama’s answer would be easy. He could just say “No, I think it has strained our relations with our allies, diverted our attention from The Real War On Terrorism, emboldened the terrorists and made my ice cream go melty.” And neither Gibson nor anyone else would have questioned him further to see if he had any idea what “it” was.
