Indeed. “View your opponent as an equal, and illustrate the difference in policy positions” is very good advice.

I think the public will judge the debate on broader points than policy positions or even grasp of issues. One of those broader points is something akin to “honesty” or “transparency,” and on that one, Senator Biden is, IMO, in deep trouble.
There is something eerily appropriate about comparing Biden’s bloviating with a dog pleasuring itself.
