Rasmussen Says Obama’s Lead Among Women Cut In Half By Palin Selection

Filed under: General — WLS @ 10:46 am

Posted by WLS:

Rasmussen has the race down to Obama +1 (+3 when leaners are included).

As McCain has begun to chip away as Obama’s convention bounce, most of his gains have come among women voters. Obama still leads 51% to 44% among women, but that seven-point edge is just half the fourteen point lead he enjoyed last Tuesday. McCain leads by three among men, little changed in recent days.

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Obama voters now say they are voting with enthusiasm for their candidate while 17% are primarily voting against the other candidate. For McCain, those numbers are 65% and 28% respectively. Before the Republican convention, just 54% of McCain voters were voting enthusiastically for him rather than simply voting against Obama.

McCain is now viewed favorably by 58% of the nation’s voters while Obama earns positive reviews from 57% (see trends). McCain earns favorable reviews from 91% of Republicans while Obama is viewed favorably by 87% of Democrats. Among unaffiliated voters, McCain’s favorable ratings are at 64%, Obama’s at 54%. Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of voters including 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of her.

  1. I love this comment from Just One Minute.

One thing is certain. Barack Obama will come away from a fight against Palin having to change his position.

    Not on any issue.

    Not on any previous vote.

When she is done with him he will assume

    The Fetal Position

  2. a response if I was on the Left…

Well, we all know that Rasmussen only polls in the upper third of Idaho.
Of course those people are going to support the Racist/Fascist McCainBushHitler/PalinImABadMother ticket.

This is getting too funny; but…

    We’re Going To Win!

    Another Drew (e872c7)

  3. To add to AD’s, point, the Libtards will also immediately start their collective screeching of “why won’t they make her available to the press! Don’t they realize that they have an obligation to the country? Just because we called her a whore/trailerparktrash/unfitmother/beautyqueenbimbo within 72 hours of her announcement, why won’t you let us talk to her? Whyyyyy? (said in painfully high – pitched/dog whistle whine).”

    Dmac (e639cc)

  4. As I said to love on another thread…
This is a request from the Left that they really don’t want to make (Careful what you ask for) because every time Gov. Palin appears in public, her ratings go UP.
As her ratings go up, John Mcain’s follow, and the ObamaBiden team tanks.

  5. I do not understand these leftwing putzies and the leftwing smear media machine. If Palin is such a bad pick then why complain??? Dont they have more chance of winning is the opponent is a bad pick?? Why would these mentally diseased Democrats want a stronger Republican pick? I just dont get it. They should be dancing around and sure of victory but no, they seem to be scared to death.

  6. “why won’t they make her available to the press! Don’t they realize that they have an obligation to the country? Just because we called her a whore/trailerparktrash/unfitmother/beautyqueenbimbo within 72 hours of her announcement, why won’t you let us talk to her?

Yeah, she’ll be available to the press just as soon as Obama provides a DNA sample so we can make sure those cute little girls are really his!

    Dana (084de8)

  7. I saw a schedule somewhere, she’s got hours of time set aside for ruffling the press corps’ feathers.

    Al (b624ac)

  8. Sarah Palin was point guard on her HS basketball team, she lead the team to the State Championship game, and won it. Obama and Biden can’t touch her performance, can’t match her poise, and haven’t got her class.

She’s a starter, and they’re only bench warmers. Plus, she can hit the open man on the give and go.

    Ropelight (49e412)

  9. Oh yeah?

Maybe cut in half now………… just wait till Palin goes on Meet The Press, and other such interviews and we get to hear what she’s really about…………

What’s that? She’s not going to talk to America through traditional means? Really she’s a “Pit Bull with Lipstick” but is afraid to confront the “Main Sream Media”?

But wait…….. out of her 40 million plus viewers durring her speech, don’t a good number of those Women expect to see her answer direct questions from “The Main Stream Media”?

Good Luck Holding on to that “Woman Lead” guys 🙂

  12. #11, Ahh yes Another Drew, one can only wish you would bookmark your words as well so that you could do the same.

  13. What’s that? She’s not going to talk to America through traditional means? Really she’s a “Pit Bull with Lipstick” but is afraid to confront the “Main Sream Media”?

Really? How do you know this?

Her son is about to deploy to Iraq. She is going to spend time with him.

In the meantime, her media silence will give people an opportunity to go around lowering expectations by insinuating that she is a bubblehead who reads a speech well but can’t speak articulately.

Then she’ll prove them wrong — AGAIN — and y’all will look like idiots, AGAIN.

    Can’t wait.

  14. (#12) Continued………..

I tell you what Another Drew, I’ve made this promise before so this will be a one sided bet.

If McCain wins, I pledge to wish him the best of luck with the utmost of sincerity since he will be leading our great country.

I probably will wish him good luck here at Patterico.

Will you do the same if Obama wins?

  15. #9 – Oiram

Well, she does want to go on Oprah, but Oprama is refusing because, just like everyone else who is in the tank for the Messiah, she is scared shitless.

  16. #13 Patterico, thank you for taking time to talk with me. Dissagree with your politics and most of your members. But I know you and everyone here wish only the best for me and America.

    I sincerly mean that.

Having said that…….you mean to tell me you are comfortable with Palin only speaking in speeches to America?

I’m an idiot for wanting her to defend her stance and statements through the press?

I mean at this point I’ll even take a Hannity and Colmbs visit.

    At least that, come on.

    Oiram (ee061e)

  17. Will you do the same if Obama wins?
    — If Obama wins I’m moving to Alaska. I’d rather be governed by someone who knows what the fuck she’s doing.

P.S. How does it feel to get b-slapped by the boss?

    Icy Truth (5b3d64)

  18. #15 ICY, I’ve said this before. I love discussing politics with you guys, but unfortunately time is a factor with me. I come here whenever I can. Not to mention it’s tough to respond sometimes 8 people here at one time.

I hadn’t heard that Oprah rejected her. That would be a huge error on Oprah’s part.

    — Thank you sir, may I have another?

I hadn’t heard that Oprah rejected her. That would be a huge error on Oprah’s part.
    — That was partly facetious on my part. To the best of my knowledge the campaign has not solicited an appearance by Sarah on the Oprah show; however, when asked about it by the press, Oprah issued a statement saying that she probabaly won’t consider it until after the election.

    Icy Truth (5b3d64)

  21. Oiram…
I have always supported the elected leader of the United States, even when I was absolutely opposed to the policies that they advocated.
    As an example:
In 1960, I was a Precinct Captain for the Nixon campaign (carried my working-class, Dem majority precinct, BTW). The following February, I raised my right-hand and swore an oath of allegience to “defend and protect” the Constitution of the United States, thereby making JFK my CiC.
You see, the beauty of our Constitutional Republic, is that we are allowed to disagree with, disparage, and even disrespect, out elected leaders.
But, when push comes to shove, those of us who can recognize something other than our own navels, know that partisanship occassionally has to be set aside, the country has to unite, and a common foe needs to be defeated.
We only have one President/Commander In Chief at a time.
He gets to make those decisions.
We get to implement them, if they are a lawful order.
If we seriously disagree, we have an opportunity at the next election to change direction.
The Left thought that they could ram their policies down GWB’s throat with the take-over of Congress by the Dem’s in 2006.
Unfortunately for them, they found out that Dem politicians are a useless bunch of feckless poseurs.
So, they’re great emphasis on electing an empty-suit who will hew to the Party Line.
    One big problem…
The American People do not like to lose a war.
We don’t like carnage, but we like losing even less.
You need to spend more time out in fly-over country to find out what America is really like.
It is not the Bi-Coastal, Academic cloister. It is the hard-scrabble farmer in Kansas, the coal-miner in a holler in West Virginia, the owner of a hardware store in downstate Illinois.
These people do not like having their butts kicked when victory is available.
And, it is these people who are going to elect John McCain, and Sarah Palin, to the office of President, and Vice-President of the United States of America.

    And, if Obama/Biden win;
    I’ll take the oath.

    See you on November 5th!

***my apologies to everyone for rambling…

    Another Drew (299eef)

  22. Oiram,

There are 60 days left until the election. Palin has been on the ticket a little more than 1 week, during which time she has given 2 major television speeches and countless local speeches. We know she will debate Biden in October and that at some point she will appear on the Sunday talk shows and other media venues. The claim that Palin has to appear on those shows this week is just media spin. Don’t fall for it.

But if you really believe she must appear this week, please explain why Barack Obama reportedly refused to appear for months and months on Fox News because he didn’t like the way it covered him. I doubt Palin liked the way the MSM covered her this week either. In other words, if Obama takes months and months to appear, it’s principled and smart. If Palin takes 2 weeks to appear, it’s cowardly. If that’s what you think, it’s unfair.

    DRJ (7568a2)

  23. Oiram – where do you get your daily talking points? TPM? Kos? HuffPo?

    JD (5f0e11)

  24. I could respond to that; but, I won’t – it would be wrong!

    Another Drew (299eef)

  25. Having said that…….you mean to tell me you are comfortable with Palin only speaking in speeches to America?

I’m an idiot for wanting her to defend her stance and statements through the press?

From Hot Air comes Palin’s schedule for today:

    Saturday, September 6, 2008
    Colorado and New Mexico

    10:00am Media Interview
    10:30am Satellite into AARP Convention
    11:30am Media Interview

    Colorado Springs, CO
    1:45pm MT Depart Colorado
    2:50pm MT Arrive NM
    3:30pm MT Media Interviews
7:00pm MT “The Road to Victory Rally”
    Albuquerque Convention Center

  26. DRJ – Getting all fact-y on Oiram does not tend to be effective.

    JD (5f0e11)

  27. Yeh, Pat…
But these don’t count. They’re being conducted by local news people – rank amateurs all.
All that matters is the bobbing-head, Sunday morning, DC shows.
Certainly you, of all people, realize that?

    Another Drew (299eef)

  28. One more phony Palin story is shot down. It was that her daughter got pregnant because Sarah was a Bible-thumper who insisted on abstinence-only sex education in school. Turns out that was another lie.

In a widely quoted 2006 survey she answered during her gubernatorial campaign, Palin said she supported abstinence-until-marriage programs. But weeks later, she proclaimed herself “pro-contraception” and said condoms ought to be discussed in schools alongside abstinence.

Oh well. Back to the seminars.

Do you suppose McCain knew what he was doing ?

    MIke K (155601)

  29. AD — the national press complain every election about candidates doing only local media as the make campaign stops, and not doing interviews with national media. They have a sense of entitlement since they’re the ones traveling around on the press plane following the campaign.

But the campaigns don’t do local press simply to irritate the national media. They do it because they know that the local citizenry pay close attention when a candidate makes and appearance in their town, and it is local press coverage that gives them wall-to-wall attention for the short time they are on the ground.

Its about reaching the most number of people on a daily basis, and addressing issues that are particularly important to the people in that location. Those questions are going to come from local reporters and not national reporters.

These are crocodile tears they are shedding.

    WLS (969303)

  30. “I’m an idiot for wanting her to defend her stance and statements through the press?”

No, you’re a rank hypocrite by completely ignoring your Messiah’s incessant stonewalling on the media’s lengthy and urgent requests to discuss the following issues with him:

    – Tony Rezko
    – Illinois State Senate Leader Emil Jones
    – Mayor Richard Daley
    – Former Cook country Board President John Stroger, Sr.
    – CAC
    – Ayers
    – Obama’s school transcripts

But Palin is supposed to immediately submit to 24/7 media requests, after receiving the nomination less than 10 days ago?

You really are just mimicking the other Trollish posts we’ve been subjected to over the past week. This does not reflect well on your part – at all.

    Dmac (e639cc)

  31. WLS @ 3:14…
Well said; and I, of all people should have known that (snark)…

If I was in John McCain’s shoes, and I were to win the election, I’m afraid that the issuance of WH Press Credentials might run into all sorts of road-blocks, all of the dog-ate-my-homework category (and, in fact, MSNBC’s paperwork would be permanantly lost).
Those people need a good, stiff shot of STFP come-uppance.

Sarah P & Mr. McFossil did nothing for me at the Republican Convention. Sarah P could have stood on stage and read the telephone book all night and the delegates would have stomped their feet and cheered her to no end. No…there were no kitchen table issues mentioned at that convention (RNC), and the republican ticket can be easily described as “Beauty & the Beast” except this fairy tale won’t be coming to a happy conclusion for the republican ticket in November !!!

Go Democrats !!! Go Obamma !!

  44. Oiram….I think you will find that nearly all of those who come here to discuss the political realm will pledge their sacred trust to President Obama, and at the same time, fight everything he believes in implementing with their same sacred trust….

The problem with any of this is the complete differences in basic tenents someone like you has with someone like me….

But, in the end, President McCain, or President Obama, will have the backing of any real American….and the prayers to go with it….

I just don’t want to have to fight the liberal politics…I’d rather fight the Repubs who can’t control themselves….

    Oiram (ee061e)

  47. “…what your (sic) saying is that we should support our leaders no matter what?”

No, what I’m saying is that the GOP is not composed of “fair-weather friends”.

Projection: This is a disease that is endemic on the Left side of the political spectrum. If “Big Pharma” could find a cure, the Left would be huge buyers; if they were rational and wished to deal with their ailment. But, of course, since they’re not rational, and wouldn’t buy this medicine, it makes no sense to develope it.
