Criticizing “Vetting” Through the Posting of Embarrassing Material — An Excellent Strategy

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:48 pm

Andrew Sullivan continues to publish anything embarrassing he can find about Sarah Palin, or anyone associated with her, under the guise of criticizing “vetting.” Now he’s linking news stories with private details about the father of Bristol Palin’s child.

Here’s the synopsis: the father is a teenager, and quotes from his MySpace page show that he’s immature. Ergo, the McCain campaign did not vet Sarah Palin!

Well, there’s a whole collection of embarrassing stuff about Andrew Sullivan. I would never post it just to embarrass him. But it might be worthy of publication in the interest of asking: Did they properly vet Andrew Sullivan at the Atlantic?

Here’s one of the tamer examples. Thanks to one of Ace’s commenters.

Those are “power glutes.” The reason for that term is on deck. We have more questions about the “vetting” of Sullivan to come over the next few days.

P.S. “Mickey’s got my back.” Looks like he’s got his own back . . .

UPDATE: God bless YouTube. Funny: that’s just what I was thinking while writing this post!

In the next post I will say: God bless the Internet Archive.

  1. I will confess that I’m uncomfortable with attacking Andrew about his private life.

But he’s been asking for it in spades.

  2. I beat you to the “Mickey’s got my back” post. See below.

  3. Instead of Joe Biden, I think Sarah might finish off the VP debate by ripping Andrew’s heart out and taking a bite. Somebody let her know that he is inedible because of some issues.

    Mike K (2cf494)

  4. What was that about Obama telling Democrats the family was off limit and to stick to policy issues?

Um… Alaska Democrats have released Gov. Palin’s social security number

Dems view non-“progressive” women the way Islamists view infidels. If Dems can destroy Palin by any foul means, then they can intimidate any other non-Democrat woman that dared to run for office.

  5. It’s like this: Andrew is stuck. At this point he either completely reverses himself and ends up looking like the total tool; OR, he plays out the string and digs for everything he can find, no matter how trivial . . . and when he doesn’t find anything — ends up looking like a total too.

  6. “total tool”

    How embarrassing.

  7. I will confess that I’m uncomfortable with attacking Andrew about his private life.

Rubbing your own butt on TV isn’t private.

Nor is there anything private about the whole Power Glutes thing.

  8. Patterico, oh, I agree. He’s asked for it.

  11. But…but…I thought some commenter at this very site said that the father of Bristol’s baby is 7 years older than her.

You mean a leftie was wrong about the facts?

Private details . . . on “Bareback City.”

  13. “Private details . . . on “Bareback City.””

I think i read different websites than you, because i’m not familiar with that one.

    kirby (fd73f6)

  14. Yeah, an Ace commenter mentioned that one, too. I have a feeling a lot of people are unfamiliar with the details of Sullivan’s hypocrisy, as I was.

A lot of people were probably unfamiliar with the quotes from the father of Bristol Palin’s child, too.

But it was all on the Internet at one point.

  15. Is Sullivan a total tool?

I’m going to neeed to see his medical records.

  18. Send it to me. I’ll publish it. Seriously.

    “Is Sullivan a total tool?”

    — Well, it sounded good when I wrote it. His steady slide to the left makes him look like some kind of slow-burn Manchurian Moby. I’m not sure if he was ever really conservative, or moderate, or whatever the hell he claims that he used to be.

    Icy Truth (d9ccad)

  20. Is it really a slide to the left? That would imply there’s some sort of guiding principle behind it.

  22. Is it really a slide to the left? That would imply there’s some sort of guiding principle behind it.

    — Well, that’s what I mean. Perhaps Doctor Howard Dean did some work on Andrew several years ago, and now . . .

. . . the clock on the ticking time-bomb is winding down towards zero.

    Icy Truth (d9ccad)

  23. #19 Jim Treacher:

Is it really a slide to the left?

I would have described it as a slide off the end, but I didn’t have enough mental bleach on hand to deal with the inevitable imagery I would suffer from.

  24. That is so baaaad!!! 🙁

    LOL

    Icy Truth (d9ccad)

  25. According to Instapundit, how they could have kept the Palin pregnancy out of the press: report that John Edwards was the father.

Or to keep Sullivan from ranting, say it was Obama being the daddy? Sully qualifies as personification of JD’s oozing necrotic rectal fistula. Not a pretty sight. Kind of reminds me of the nephew of a Philly federal district quite some years ago. Dude was really crazy and had maggots oozing from a sore on his hip.

    madmax333 (0c6cfc)

  26. And you know all about this, right?

  27. The founder of the Alaska Independence Party — a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years — once professed his “hatred for the American government” and cursed the American flag as a “damn flag.”

The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that’s now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

“The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government,” Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

“And I won’t be buried under their damn flag,” Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. “I’ll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home.”

At another point, Volger advocated renouncing allegiance to the United States. In the course of denouncing Federal regulation over land, he said:

“And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska.”

    Comment by Steverino — 9/2/2008 @ 7:40 pm

    No, “lying” is more accurate.

The founder of the Alaska Independence Party — a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years — once professed his “hatred for the American government” and cursed the American flag as a “damn flag.”

David, I’d feel more comfortable taking your word that Sarah Palin has been courting them for years if everybody and their dog hadn’t spend the last couple days saying she was a member for the Alaska Independence Party only to have that turn out to be bull—t.

Patterico, given your reference to “Internet Archives” I assume you are familiar one particularly embarrassing incident, but, if not, contact Ace of Spades who I believe has now reached “full Buddha” in his level of Sullivan hatred.

    Anon (03ab2e)

  29. f’kin typos, I should learn not to post late.

    Anon (03ab2e)

  30. Well, thanks for that DE.
Sounds like Mr. Volger would welcome the opportunity to socialize with Mr. Ayers, and Ms. Dohrn – they share so many things in common.

    Icy Truth (d9ccad)

  32. And Obama has 20 years of Black Liberation “Hate America Hate Whitey” Rev Wright.

Y’all remember, the Rev. that Obama could no more renounce than he could his own grandma

    oops.

  34. I admit this Horsey cartoon made me laugh, although it also perfectly encapsulates every MSM stereotypical insulting view that it has of Palin.

  35. Oh and Patterico: love the video. 🙂

‘Andi is a nut, he has an itchy butt…’

  36. Sullivan is doing a great service. What a trainload of embarassing revelations. Does any self respecting person want to be associated with today’s GOP?

    Jack (894e4f)

  37. Sullivan is doing a great service.

Sure, if you’re an ‘airport restroom inspector.’

    qdpsteve (dc65ab)

  38. A trainload?

    Patterico (cc3b34)

  39. I think turnabout is likely fair play, so I won’t get too indignant about the possible upcoming disclosure – or re-disclosure – Patterico is hinting at. Sullivan doesn’t seen to care about hurting civilians; he’s acting immorally.

However, wasn’t that web solicitation Sullivan posted years ago meant to be anonymous, with Sullivan’s identity revealed only to those who responded (and who Sullivan liked)? If so, then it’s not really public as is a Myspace page.

    Brian (f79442)

  40. Sullivan is doing a great service. What a trainload of embarassing revelations.

Well, we already knew he was an insane nitwit. But I do suppose his constant reminders to provide some sort of service.

You should assign this sentence to a hotkey.

  42. You should assign this sentence to a hotkey.

    — That’s reserved for “David, you ignorant butt-slut!”

    Icy Truth (d9ccad)

  43. Vetting, vetting, vetting! Someone needs to take Sullivan to the vet and get him fitted for one of those big plastic collars.

    Icy Truth (d9ccad)

  44. The founder of the Alaska Independence Party — a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years — once professed his “hatred for the American government” and cursed the American flag as a “damn flag.”

Is this the guy who does the Old Glory Boogie and was a Marxist terrorist who bombed the Pentagon and Capitol back in the 70s? If so, I hope Palin doesn’t have a close association with him or had her political career launched by him because such a thing should disqualify any candidate.

    j curtis (c84b9e)

  45. j curtis…

Hating something, and blowing up cops and judges, are two very different things…

Well, to sane people it is. I mean, I’m not much of a fan of Government myself, but at the same time I have thus far managed to refrain from setting car bombs.
