Joe Bonehead Biden strikes again.

Biden and Obama appeared together in Beaver PA yesterday.  During his introduction of Obama, Biden told the crowd about why it was that he moved away from Scranton when he was young, and went to Deleware.

Basically he said that a family that lived 7 blocks from him was the Casey family.  There was Bob Casey, who was 12 years older than Biden, and Bobby Casey, who was 12 years younger than Biden.

Biden said he knew that someday someone from Scranton would be famous, but he figured out that it was probably going to be the Caseys and not him, so he left for Delaware.

All of this got great laughs and applause.

Only one problem — Biden was 10 years old when his family left Scranton for Delaware.

Which makes it hard to explain how he knew Bobby Casey would be more famous than him when Bobby Casey would not be born for another 2 years after Biden left.

And it again plays into Biden’s overinflated view of himself — that as a 10 year old he was powers of political prognostication unrivaled then or now.

  1. Shocker: Biden says stupid stuff.

    Perfect Sense (9d1b08)

  2. At least this time, he wasn’t from Wales.

  3. According to Wikepedia, Bob Casey Jr. was born in 1960 and Biden in 1942. Bob Casey Sr. was born in 1932.

  4. Did you notice that a day before he picked Palin for VP, McCain said he was going to select Wilford Brimley? What a bonehead flip-flopper.

  5. Could be worse. He could have been like Hillary and claimed to have been named after someone who didn’t become famous until you were six years old.

  6. Biden is the perfect model for a poster stating:

“Of course he’s lying, his lips are moving!”

  7. No Biden fan moi, but I took that as simply humorous hyperbole in self-deprecation.

Don’t cry wolf on this sort of silliness. The guy will likely yield real targets during the canpaign.

Move along, nothing to see here.

  8. I can’t wait until she gets him riled up in a debate and he lets fly with: “Just a minute, missy,” or some such.

  9. I think you’re taking this too seriously. He was just making a joke.

  10. I agree with 7 and 9. This was simply an awkwardly stated joke.

Don’t forget 4. Don’t I get credit for being first?

  12. Isn’t it interesting how Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) has evolved so quickly into Joe Biden (D-PA)? From his first utterings since being nominated as Barack Obama’s running mate, Biden has seemingly forgotten that he represents the state of Delaware.

These days, it’s Keystone Joe, the kid from Scranton, PA. (“Scranton never leaves you”, says Joe) Where did Obama and Biden head once the festivities in Denver had concluded? Pittsburgh, that’s where. Why? To reinforce his Pennsylvania origins, that’s why.

In truth, Biden spent the first ten years of his life in Scranton before his family moved to Delaware, that tiny insignificant state with only a fingerfull of electoral votes.

But Pennsylvania-that’s different story. Pennsylvania is a delegate-rich state that is considered a crucial battleground state in November. Thus, Biden is once again a bonafide Pennsylvanian, tried and true, red, white and blue.

So once again, Joe Biden, the big-mouth, the plagiarizer, is giving everyone the big stroke-job in trying to convince the swing-voters of a major state that he is “one of them”, a favorite son, if you will. Watch for the mainstream media to go to Scranton to dig up people who went to kindergarten with Joe or bounced him on their laps.

So, in the words of the Obama camp, is this politics as usual, change, or just more of the same?

  13. Wilford Brimley…
Well, at least he knows how to fire a USA (Absent Malice).

    Another Drew (5efac7)

  14. Actually — Brimley didn’t fire the USA. He told the USA “The President appointed you, its not my place to fire you.”

He did fire the DOJ strike force lawyer who was working on labor racketeering cases in Florida.

And that conference room scene is one of my favorites of all time.

  16. Biden has the same problem that some people have online. It can be hard to tell when he’s joking, being sarcastic or flip, or when he’s speaking in earnest. It’s fine to do that in personal interactions but it can be easy to misconstrue in a larger setting. I’m surprised he hasn’t figured that out yet.

    DRJ (7568a2)

  17. DRJ…
You have to realize that the personal interactions of Senators are just so nuanced, that it takes years and years to get all of the fine points of BS polished and faceted.
Look how long it’s taken Bobby Byrd, and he still doesn’t get it.

    Another Drew (5efac7)

  18. Re-elect ‘KKK’ Byrd in 2012 … 54 Years Is Not Enough!

    Icy Truth (75e0f5)

  19. ## 7 and 9 got it right. Clearly a self-deprecating joke with the side-benefit to him of being able to further explain that some of his formative years were spent in Pennsylvania. Of course if Romney were picked, we’d be hearing about Michigan.

So, of the 4 women on the ticket (one actual candidate and 3 spouses), which is the prettiest?

    Ira (787cca)

  20. Sorry, Phil. I don’t watch TV, so I don’t know what show/scene you’re referring to (or Drew and WLS, as well).

At least I’m having a good month. Didn’t watch any of the Olympics, didn’t watch any of the Democratic convention, and don’t intend to watch any of the Republican either. So nothing to raise my blood pressure…

    kishnevi (8174b2)

  21. kish…
I referred to the Paul Newman movie Absent Malice.
It shows on TV occassionaly, or rent it at ?

    Another Drew (5efac7)

  22. I think that was Absence of Malice.

    DRJ (7568a2)

  23. It was a joke.

    Nels (364116)

  24. How would Biden even know that the elder Casey would be more famous than him since the elder Casey would only have been getting out of college at the time. Also, what proof do we have that he even knew the Casey family at that time? Would a twenty year old be hanging out with a nine or ten year old Joe Biden? Not likely. It also makes it seem like it was Biden’s decision at ten years old to dictate to his family that they move out of Scranton because there wasn’t enough room in that town for the Caseys and the Bidens! What ten year old is head of household and makes the decisions as to where the family is to live?

    eaglewingz08 (98291e)

  25. How . . . DARE you confuse the issue with logic?!

    Icy Truth (df70da)

  26. #22…
DRJ, you’re absolutely correct. My Bad.
Reading too much legal shorthand here, I guess.

    Another Drew (f83c2e)

  27. “absent malice” is the shorthand for the key holding of NYT v. Sullivan case that many lawyers use.

    wls (5ce147)

  28. Thanks, wls.

    BTW, I hate that case.
What a gift to the media.
    Shameful!
