The lyrics stay in the public eye — allowing the meme of ‘white people are racist and afraid of black people’ and ‘McCain is OLD’ to be out there while Barry does his best Claude Rains immitation.

This is a fully contrived moment.

Do you seriously think African-Americans won’t support Obama because of this? And it’s not like hip-hop afficianados vote in significant numbers.

This was an easy thing for Obama to oppose: it doesn’t cost him anything, and it makes him look “reasonable”. It was like Bill Clinton condemning Sister Souljah: a move that cost him nothing at the polls.

Yeah, but this isn’t the Ludacris Barak Obama knew.

I was thinking about how I would address this if I was in McCain’s camp, because it’s clear to me that it’s pretty chaotic there — if his people have the skills to put out a clear message, they can’t count on McC to articulate it properly (and thus the “nothing is off the table” debacle last Sunday). Here’s what I would respond:

We at the McCain campaign are not really sure what to make of Ludacris’ insensitive, sexist, racist, and all-around offensive “song” he recorded in support of Democratic Presidential candidate, Senator Barack Obama.

While Senator Obama’s spokespersons have condemned the recording as “outrageously offensive,” it should be noted that early in his Presidential campaign, Ludacris (real name: Chris Bridges) and Senator Obama made a public appearance together in the fall of 2006. Is it possible that Mr. Bridges has helpingly provided Obama with a so-called “Sister Souljah moment,” in which an internal feud within one party (real or manufactured) is played out in public to appeal to members of the other party?

If that is not the case, it’s clear that while Senator Obama constantly speaks of his lofty goal of fostering a new era in which such expressions of prejudice and hatred are rejected by all “people of the world,” he apparently has not yet had a positive influence on people within his inner circle (past and present).
