Murderer of “Let It Be” (and Alleged Murderer of Lana Clarkson) Endorses Obama

First it was William “Cold Cash” Jefferson. Then a convicted murderer about to be executed for his crime.

And now Phil Spector becomes the latest to endorse Obama.

  1. At some point, there will be enough “Celebrity Felons (or Alleged Felons) for Obama” that they will get their own section at the convention.

  2. I am in perfect agreement with you for once Patterico, I hated what he did to Let it Be.

Some years ago they released Let it Be Naked where they stripped away all his efforts. Still a substandard Beatles record, but at least it is what they were trying to do at the time, make music just amongst themselves (and Billy Preston) without a lot of production flourishes.

Maybe that guy from Florida responsible for all those boy bands and who is now is in prison will endorse McCain to attempt to even this out, but even that is not enough I am afraid.

  3. “The Long And Winding Road” is the one song on that album that he truly slayed, turning a melancholy yet hopeful ballad into an overly solemn chorale.

Of course he also killed the career of The Ramones, steering them toward nostalgia — the antithesis of punk. Yuck! [Punks don’t reminisce about the past; they tell you the cold hard truth about the present and then fight with a vengeance for the future.]

If his endorsement causes even one voter to change and vote McCain, it will be worth it.

  4. “I wanna be sedated”..are the Ramones even still around?

A friend in Sweden raved about Bruce Springsteen’s appearance there. No word if he Bush-bashed.

Why is it that celebs get any mileage out of their opinions anyway? Does anyone doubt that Phil Spector murdered that girl? What did Ronnie Spector even see in him? Who would the Glimmer Twins endorse? For that matter, I expect Schwarzenegger could endorse Obama.

  5. “No word if he Bush-bashed”

The latest album is kindofa Bush bash. I liked him when he was relatively poor and didn’t bash the country. And the hopey change stuff. It’s good in a song. Not so good as a platform.

  6. I’m surprised you didn’t entitle this “OBama: The First Choice of Murderers.”

By the way, Patterico, when can we expect a new Spector trial? Isn’t one long overdue?

  7. are the Ramones even still around?

    Not many… 😉

  8. The Boss’s current view makes “Born in the USA” sound like more of a confession of sin, than it does a statement of pride…

  9. Why is it that celebs get any mileage out of their opinions anyway?

Bradley Whitford was once asked his opinion on the political race between Gore and Bush (during his tenure on “The West Wing”, and I will always smile when I think of his response.

“Why are you asking me? I’m an actor. That’s, like, two steps up from a trained monkey…”

Something most people don’t understand is that Fame does not equal Wisdom. (Nor does age = wisdom, because old age and wisdom don’t have to show up hand-in-hand. Sometimes age shows up all by itself.)

  10. Scott – I was thinking the same thing. Springsteen is atoning for being a jingoistic capitalist.

  11. The Boss’s current view makes “Born in the USA” sound like more of a confession of sin, than it does a statement of pride…

It was always that, which made Reagan’s use of it…um…inartful. It sounds like an anthem, but it reads like a complaint.

  12. …That’s, like, two steps up from a trained monkey…”

Drumwaster: Thanks for reminding me of that. So true.

  13. God you’re right Pablo…

Excuse me while I make a note to trash-bin all but two songs of The Boss’s from my iTunes…

  14. Terrorists, Crooks, Murderers, Racist Bigots, and Unpatriotic dirty rotten Commie Rats. But don’t be alarmed. Relax folks, you’ve now entered the 21st Century Twilight Zone.

Who could have imagined we would come to a point in America where the choice for leader of the free world would be and old fool or a young fool?

Recall, if you will, the heady days of yesteryear and the fond hopes that came to Congress on the wings of The Contract with America. Remember too the Impeachment of Bill Clinton and how Trent Lott sold out the House Republicans and squandered the heart and soul of the Conservative Revolution. A more low-down, double dealing, skunk hasn’t walked the Senate floor since LBJ was Majority Leader.

  15. “Let It Be Naked” is the only version of that album I own.

    Patterico (616cdd)

  16. I think there is only one surviving member of the Ramones. Joey Ramone was known for having rather conservative views.
I don’t even count Let it Be as an official Beatles album – Abbey Road was their coda in my book. Let it Be as a Beatles album is like calling Steve Carlton a White Sock.
As insufferable as Bruce might be when he is political, nothing can possibly compare to the most punch-in-the-face-worthy rocker, Eddie Vedder. He’s a douche’s douche.

  19. God I hope Pat sees that… So classy…

    Scott Jacobs (fa5e57)

  20. Betcha he’s already taken a screen shot of that and is using it as “proof” that conservatives are murderers.

    Bit depressing, really.

Anyone care to take an over/under on the grade level he has reached in our infamous public school system?

    Drumwaster (5ccf59)

  21. 21. Maybe he’s already graduated and on the short list to be Obama’s Secretary of State.

What happened? ATF knock over the local still?

  23. Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

    Drumwaster (5ccf59)

  24. #18 I’ve seen your kind over at LGF. C. Johnson would not only ban your IP, he’d locate where you are writing from and notify your employer about your contemptible behavior. Hope you enjoy being part of the fever swamps at Kos, Du, moron.org, Huff et. al.

  25. Drum @ 24…
The way those boys and girls at ATF(E) keep losing their equipment (guns, laptops, etc.),
it seems they are a convenience store –
    for the bad guys.

  26. As everyone knows, #18 is an Obama supporter, with the average intelligence of most Obama supporters.

It posted at 8:38am, because the bus to summer camp doesn’t arrive until 9.

    That’s just stupid.

    Peter (e70d1c)

  28. But Apogee……. what if the idiot who’s commenting on #18 is actually a McCain supporter pretending to be an Obama Supporter spoofing a McCain supporter?

I just blew your mind 🙂

  29. How Clever!

    Another Drew (8018ee)

  30. Or alternatively, how difficult is it to use another computer to get around being banned or in moderation? Some sharp mind could probably come up with a likely suspect if ‘killa’ posted more and anyone actually gave a rat’s asp. But offhand I’d say the kid was 14.

No, you didnt just say that! Or did you? ROTFLMHO.

  32. Joey Ramone died of lymphoma on April 15, 2001
Dee Dee was found dead at his home on June 5, 2002, from a heroin overdose
Johnny died from prostate cancer on September 15, 2004
Tommy is the only original member (played drums on and toured in support of the first three albums) still alive
    — There’s a Jim Carroll song in there somewhere.

    — The same Bradley Whitford who allegedly overheard McCain saying he did not vote for Bush in 2000? “Two steps up” is being too generous.
