Astrology and Politics

Nancy Reagan’s interest in astrology is probably the most famous modern-day example in which politics meets astrology. The Washington Post archives reflect 51 articles since 1987 that contain the search terms “Nancy,” “Reagan” and “astrology,” and I doubt these articles are complimentary.

Thus, I was surprised to find that the Washington Post’s summary of the Senate vote on the Allard Amendment (discussed here) breaks down the vote by party, state, region, boomer status, gender, and astrological sign.

I can’t imagine why the Washington Post would break down Congressional votes by astrological sign … but I’m not surprised to learn that Barack Obama is a Leo.

  5. It’s always amusing to me that astrology is stupid when Republicans reference it, but no one seems to have much to say about this incidence! “Leo” indeed.

    Let’s see. BO is a Leo. America is a Cancer. So let’s check out that “Romance Horoscope,” shall we?

    When Cancer and Leo make a love match, they understand and know how to satisfy basic emotional needs within one another.     The intense and emotional Moon (Emotion) rules Cancer, while the bright, bold Sun (the Self) rules Leo. The Sun is about ego and self, radiating warmth and light, and vibrant Leo indeed radiates this kind of energy and enthusiasm. The Moon concerns itself with nurturing, with creating and maintaining emotional connections. This combination of masculine and feminine energy is why the Sun and the Moon adore and sustain one another other as they do. The Sun represents life, and The Moon cultivation and growth; as long as they are mindful of their inherent differences, their combination can be a positive one.

  11. Obama is a Leo, but has a Gemini Moon. So the person who thought he had to be a Gemini is partly right.
