Did you see Barr on the Colbert Report? It’s been a while since any significant political figure has let Colbert interview him, and this showed why — he dismantled Barr’s libertarian credentials quite effectively (after “mistakenly” calling him “Babar”).
Not sure Barr even realized what was happening.
LYT (b67340) — 6/8/2008 @ 11:27 pmThe video referred to LYT #1 is truly enjoyable. Well worth the time watching. Bob Barr does ok although, as usual, Colbert steals the show. Barr plays along but at the same time it’s clear that he has no specifics. “Hope and Change”, only. Have we heard that somewhere before?

Not sure YOU even realized what was happening.

You don’t understand what this type of appearance is for.
Barr successfully made several clear policy statements. There is little to no room in less than seven minutes of a bantering comedy show for specifics, and that’s not even the purpose of the appearance.
If a candidate wants to make involved tactical talk, he goes before the Commonwealth Club; for face time and personality development, Colbert: all people need to see there is that you can survive in good humor.

Allen (2896cd) — 6/9/2008 @ 7:44 amWell … even Ralph Nader has said that we need a strong intelligence (spying) capability. He could have given a better answer to the Patriot Act question, in my opinion. The answer he gave was more suited to the DOMA question which he totally ignored and where, likely honestly, he could have said: “I’m sorry for that. I was a Republican at the time and I voted the party line.”
nk (0e7da1) — 6/9/2008 @ 8:05 amI dislike the Borat type of humor enough that I totally agree with Barr. There was no real humor in that scene, and it shouldn’t be treated as a real attempt at humor.
