SPQR: I spent the 90s mostly hidden away in Santa Cruz; the first half of the decade I was a student with limited to no news access, and the second half of the decade I was a software engineer who spent almost all of his free time intoxicated. While I noticed what *President* Clinton was doing, I didn’t notice what *Senator* Clinton was doing … and it wasn’t until late in that decade that I developed the ability to listen to people on the other side of the aisle rather than ignoring them while condeming them as extremists.

I’m not proud of this period in my political evolution, but I must admit to it.
