  1. I’m afraid it’s a little (or a lot ) too late

    corwin (73b237)

  2. The man who could ‘no more disown the Rev. Wright than he could his own Grandmother’, could disown the church, finally, after a Catholic priest added more fuel to the fire.

    kimsch (2ce939)

  3. This pleases me no end.

“I could no more resign/repudiate Trinity than I could my community.” (paraphrase)

    Beautiful. Just beautiful.

Of course, McCain and the RNC won’t mention those words. Words, by the way, which are seared into the electorate’s minds. This is just beautiful.

This man has zero moral standing now. He’ll pray with you, until he won’t. He’ll talk with anyone, until he won’t.

    Jiffy Pop, anyone?

  4. Geez, lgf has this story already with almost 900 comments. So Urkel does it on a saturday afternoon to avoid any press coverage as much as possible and most of media goes along with downplaying or ignoring, except of course for right wing hack Faux News which is beating on it.

Perhaps the urkel aplogogist will inform us why lord crybaby obambi felt the need to disassociate himself after 20 years of memberships? Can’t be because of the evil right wing. Perhaps he is a wee bit worried about any attitude changes by the “Super” delegates?

Throw Grand mama under the boss, love your abandoning daddy dearest, ignore mama on her deathbed, vote present or don’t even bother showing up, struggle to pay student loans and procure fresh fruit for the kids with income in excess of millions, be sensitive about your own chosen middle name which cannot be named, declare vast areas of info and background as offlimits, befriend unrepentant terrorists, baldly lie or exaggerate about your past and so on ad nauseum. Gag me with a spoon- Hope! Change!

  5. Don’t ride him too hard, every thing he has every had, or will have, comes from the taxpayer. I’m black and you owe me sure has paid off for him and Big Mouth. His education in no way means he’s smart. I remember a time when I had to score 92+ for a chance of advancement but a black only had to score 60. In the end nothing would show who had to, and did, score the highest of the test. The 60 counted for just as much or more when race was added in. Want my vote, prove that taxpayer dollars are color blind.
What size bus is he riding? A lot of people are being thrown under it. It does prove he would cut your throat in a dark alley if he thought it would help him con the people.

  6. Obama could have avoided all of this by quietly leaving TUCC last year, around the time Wright told the NYT disowning him was inevitable. The vicious contents of TUCC’s sermons aside, Obama showed horribly poor judgment on many levels.

    Bradley J Fikes (1c6fc4)

  7. i’ve never heard of anyone resigning from a church. don’t they just stop showing up on sundays? do disgusted commenters ever formally resign from blogs?

  8. Can Obama spell potatoe?

    Dumberer than Quayle!!!!

    daleyrocks (5aa841)

  9. The next thing he needs to do is to renounce and reject the Democratic Party and become a Republican. He also needs to start supporting the war and apologise to Americans for even conceiving the crazy idea of being POTUS. Thats what he needs to do next.

    love2008 (5189d2)

  10. Whether Obama left six months or a year ago would not have shown anything other than politial ambition was pressing him.

Nothing has changed in 20 years of sermons and this lastest gasbag is no different than the usual fare. What has changed is now Obama is seeing more clearly how the average joe is reacting to the fringe he has been loyal to – and the reactions are not going to propel him to the White House. Heeds votes and even his supporters may be put off by this latest nut.

Obama cannot afford any more of these characters sullying his efforts at appealing to middle class voters but he also knows hope-and-changiness is not easily sold when one is solidly in the midst of hate-and-bait.

Whats funny is he really believes people will buy this sudden spine he’s developed. Sadly, some will.

  11. Um, yes, ADA, one may formally join a specific church, then later leave/resign. It depends on the sect and denomination.

As others have already observed, this is too little, too late, just like his flag pin…

If Barry keeps this up, he’s going to make Hillary start looking fairly polished, pretty soon. 🙂

    Casey (9ee427)

  12. Where will Obama and his wife go to get his weekly cup of white hatred?

    Perfect Sense (b6ec8c)

  13. Perfect Sense (#12), I’m sure they will continue their subscription to the New York Times.

    JVW (78155f)

  14. “Where will Obama and his wife go to get his weekly cup of white hatred?”

There’s also no shortage of white guilt among liberals, although that’s a poor substitute.

    daleyrocks (810227)

  15. Lookout, Grandma!

    Viktor (6c107f)

  16. America is a mean place, Viktor.

Maybe now people will let Barack finish his waffle, but since his faith is such an important part of his life, I’m sure he and Mrs. Grievance will be joining another politically convenient (for today) church right away.

Lovey and Levi will be pleased to hear that for the first time in my life I can say I am proud of something Obama did. I question the idiot’s timing and judgement in taking so long to reach the conclusion that it was the right thing to do if wanted to seek the presidency of the United States.

    Wait for the polls.

    daleyrocks (810227)

  17. It occurs to me that the official line on this will eventually be, “Obama left the church for the good of the church. Now that he’s gone, the church won’t be the focus of so much attention, which is best for the other parishioners.”

That way he can come off as being self-sacrificing.

    Steven Den Beste (99cfa1)

  18. #17 — that’s it already. Obama gave that very reason — that the Church and its members were under assault because of his campaign to be POTUS, and that wasn’t fair to the Church and its members.

    wls (ec2de1)

  19. . . . for the first time in my life I can say I am proud of something Obama did. I question the idiot’s timing and judgement in taking so long to reach the conclusion that it was the right thing to do if wanted to seek the presidency of the United States.

I am assuming that statement is just a play on Michelle Obama’s earlier words, daleyrocks, and not your true assessment. If it is true that character is doing the right thing when nobody is looking, than Senator Obama has failed miserably, since it took a very bright light being shone on the hatred and radicalism of Trinity before he was willing to act. It is probably also not a coincidence that he waited to resign until he had almost completely locked up the nomination, lest he anger the far left Democrats that he so desperately needed to hold off Senator Clinton’s surge.

    JVW (78155f)

  20. JVW – You would be correct. The man would be a disaster a president.

    daleyrocks (eac390)

  21. That way he can come off as being self-sacrificing

    Sainthood to follow

    Horatio (55069c)

  22. “i’ve never heard of anyone resigning from a church. don’t they just stop showing up on sundays?”

    – assistant devil’s advocate

When it’s for their own benefit, yes. When it’s to assuage the fears of a mouth-breathing electorate, they have to make a show of it. Flashing lights, shiny objects… the whole nine yards.

Anyway, I agree with the gist of the thread. I’ve been saying for a long time that Obama’s just another politician; this reinforces that notion.

I have a different reaction, though: disgust with the American political system (vs. glee from being caught up in its trappings).

    Leviticus (22eefa)

  23. adding to Leviticus above,

Some people just “go” to a church on Sundays, others are members of the church. Some churches ask parishioners to actually become members. Some don’t care, they like warm bodies in the pews. One church I was a member of wanted my baptismal certificate for membership.

    kimsch (2ce939)

  24. How does this help Michelle America-Overwatered-My-Flowers Obama’s kids?

    nk (6c75e0)

  25. Well, it gets them out of a hateful cesspool masquerading as a house of Christian worship, so that’s good.

    Pablo (99243e)

  26. Well, it gets them out of a hateful cesspool masquerading as a house of Christian worship, so that’s good

Yeah – now they only have to listen to their mother’s bitter rants and whining.

MO should convert to Islam, the Religion of Perpetual Outrage. She’d be right at home.

    Horatio (55069c)

  27. too rich- Father Pflegler is now playing the victim card. “They want to kill me!”
    http://jammiewearingfool.blogspot.com
well duh, the Catholic heirarchy sure seems liberal in free speech rights of priests not to mention all that covering up/enabling of child rape for so many years. Will the Arhcdiocese throw Pflegler under the proverbial bus too?

Oh well, no reason to further irritate Trinity Church or Urkel over what goes on there. Leave them all alone because you typcial honky racists have no clue about what’s in the hearts of oppressed blacks and don’t question Urkel’s committment to hope, change and religious reconciliation either. Besides O’Reilly states we cannot see in the dear Obama’s heart. Surely Barry can’t merely be a political opportunist?
Powerline blog has the gall today to call BHO a b.s. artist. I’m sure levi and love are ready to defend hussein’s new reasonings though. Move on- nothing to see here.

    madmax333 (4a6663)

  28. “MO should convert to Islam, the Religion of Perpetual Outrage. She’d be right at home.”

Horatio – Then she might have to wear a tent and veil and not be allowed to speak in public. That would be fine with me, but she might not like it.

    daleyrocks (ed580b)

  29. Im still not voting for him he is still a liberal leftists reptile and possibly the antichrist

    krazy kagu (1ccb50)

  30. According to a comment on talk radio yesterday, there is another TUCC tape: Michelle herself ranting about whitey. I don’t believe it, but who knows…I’m sure it will be released very soon after Mr. O is nominated.

    Patricia (f56a97)

  31. Horatio – Then she might have to wear a tent and veil and not be allowed to speak in public. That would be fine with me, but she might not like it.

Good point – and walk behind the Obamessiah

    Horatio (55069c)

  32. So how does this “resigning from the church” thing work among these cults, anyway? In my church, the only way I could “resign” would be if I converted to another religion. Otherwise, I can never go to services, never partake of the sacraments, throw rocks through church windows, and still be considered one of its believers (although a lapsed one), because of my baptism and chrismation.

    nk (6c75e0)

  33. NK, in my church you “register” as either a family or an individual. You then get personalized envelopes for the weekly collection. “Resigning” from my church would, I suppose, entail telling them that I no longer plan to attend their services and to no longer bother sending me envelopes.

    JVW (78155f)

  34. But you would still be what you were baptized/chrismated/confirmed in?

My church’s “membership fee” is $200.00 a year. It depends on the donation (sale of candles, actually) at the entrance, the collection plate, and individual donations for its real money.

But its doors are open to everybody. It will marry me, baptize my kid, bury me, just because of a credible statement that I am baptized and chrismated in that faith.

I was “signed up” by my parents and godparents when I was six months old and I can “leave” only if I change faith.

So what faith is Barack Sword-Of-The-Prophet Obama is going to go to?

    nk (6c75e0)

  35. #30 – i first read that rumor on a pro-hillary leftie blog about a month ago. who know’s if its true? the author of that blog heard it from someone 2nd hand. i almost think if it was true the obama campaign would be pushing it out now to get it defused before the general. or they are waiting for a big big news story that will eclipse it to release it. thats a gamble but sometimes it works.

or the 3rd option is they have extreme confidence that it wasnt taped so it wont escalate beyond whispers in the background.

    chas (12a229)

  36. Great analysis of Obama, the Cowardly lion over at the nuthouse:

    http://www.rightwingnuthouse.com

once again the disgraceful turns a blind eye to kaka obama’s twists and turns.

    madmax333 (185fbf)

  37. And it only took him 20 years to fill out his resignation paperwork. Remember, politics had nothing to do with his decision…so said his campaign. Now that’s a statement which shows more contempt for the American public than Jeremiah ever dreamed of!

    OLDPUPPYMAX (c36902)

  38. But you would still be what you were baptized/chrismated/confirmed in?

Well, I was baptized & confirmed Catholic, so it doesn’t really matter whether it was in St. Anthony’s Parish or Sacred Heart Cathedral or wherever. If I were to “resign” from my particular parish I would simply move to another one, not leave the Catholic Church altogether. In a similar manner, I would expect that Obama is going to find another church affiliated with the United Church of Christ (probably one that is more mainstream liberal, and, not coincidentally, white) and join up with them.

Though the real solid political move at this point would be for him to convert to Judiasm.

    JVW (78155f)

  39. nk – he doesn’t have to change the “flavor” of Protestant he is if he doesn’t want to. He could go to another United Church of Christ Church. He quit Trinity. I am a Lutheran. I went to several different Lutheran churches and there are several different “flavors” of Lutheran too. Now I’m going to a non-denominational Christian church, full of people from all different “flavors” of Protestant.

Being Catholic, you’d just switch parishes if your priest was like Fr. Pfleger and you didn’t like the way he said masses.

    kimsch (2ce939)

  40. I think the difference is a church versus The Church.

    kimsch (2ce939)

  41. for obama things might go from bad to worse those rumors might bear some fruit after all. depending on how bad hillary may get her nomination after all.

    chas (12a229)

  42. Thanks, guys. I looked up United Church of Christ and I see that it consists of roughly 6,000 congregations with a common Statement of Faith. So I guess, like kimsch said, Barack I-Bring-Not-Peace-But-A-Sword Obama can find another congregation and remain in the same faith. It will be interesting to see which one.

    nk (6c75e0)

  43. Resigning from church means you no longer go there for your spiritual nurturing. It also means you are withdrawing your support for the work being done there. Your tithes, offerings and membership should no longer be counted upon. It also means you no longer should be held accountable for what the church teaches, does or says. It means the church no longer represents your beliefs and views on any matter neither should it be held responsible for you and your future decisions and actions. It’s a sad parting away time for both parties…..sob….sniff….sob..(with the choir in th background singing) Till we meet again, till we meet again, God be with you till we meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnn!…sniff…

    love2008 (5189d2)

  44. Obama stayed as long as he did in order to establish and maintain his cred in the black community. It paid off with a high percentage of the black vote going to him in the primaries. NOW, he has to worry about some of that vote leaving him in the general election. Look at what a significant portion of the black community did to Bill Cosby when he dared write a book that said, “stop playing the victim, start taking personal responsibility for your actions”.

Can you say “Uncle Tomba”? (Tobama? oTOMba?)

Missed It By THAT Much (785da6)

  45. Meant to write “Uncle oTOMa”

Missed It By THAT Much (785da6)

  46. O is for Oafish

    B for Black eye

    A for Arrogant wife

    M for Media Darling

    A for Apostate

Please go back to Chicago, you fool.
