The North Carolina Democratic Primary

[Guest post by DRJ]

Polls have consistently shown Obama leading Clinton by double digits in North Carolina but the lead may be narrowing. Today Democratic superdelegate and NC Governor Mike Easley will endorse Clinton:

“Gov. Mike Easley will endorse Hillary Rodham Clinton for president, The Associated Press has learned.

Easley was expected to announce the endorsement Tuesday morning in Raleigh, the state capital, one week before North Carolina’s primary on May 6, according to persons close to the governor and to Clinton. The individuals spoke on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement had not yet been made.

Easley is a Democratic superdelegate who has served two terms as governor. His decision comes despite several recent polls showing Clinton trailing rival Barack Obama ahead of the state’s May 6 primary.”

Six of 17 NC superdelegates have already endorsed Obama and Easley is only the second NC superdelegate to support Clinton, but the timing couldn’t be better for her campaign.

  1. I predict Clinton gets the nomination, in part because of Republicans voting for her in primaries, and subsequently the election. People were premature in assuming Obama had the nomination locked down. Obama cannot win. Clinton can.

  2. Gerald – Agreed. The same ‘here and now’ mistakes counted Clinton prematurely crowned and McCain in the dumpster.

    It ain’t over.

  3. Those Republicans that crossed-over for Hillary in the primaries (Operation Chaos), don’t seem to be reliable votes for her in the Fall.

Why “cant” Obama win? Do you know of any hidden special reason why you feel he cannot win? He is leading now in pledged delegates, number of states won, popular votes. While Hillary was picking up this endoremnt from the NC govrenor, Obama picked one more endorsement from a new mexico Superdelegate, Sen Jeff Bingaman. Making it five endorsemensts so far since the last primaries in Penn. Hillary has gotten only two since then. He has run an excellent insurgent campaign so far, has rised more money than anyone in this contest so far. He is attracting young new voters into the democratic process in record numbers. Hillary has refered to him as “formidable” and when asked during the last debate if she felt he could win in the GE if he gets the nomination she blurted out “yes, yes, yes!!!” So even she thinks he CAN win. So help me see why you think he “cannot win”?

  5. What we are seeing with certain so called Elders of The Democratic Party is they are completely out of touch with Real People & Voters! – what they wish to do is ensure “The Dynasty” continues and rob the Voters of the Clear Mandate we are giving, but they will not get away with it!

  6. Has anyone seen the dvd called ‘Hillary the movie”. I think there is a conspiracy in the media to conceal all of the lies and cover-ups of the Clinton monarchy. I’ve seen this dvd which consists of very prominent people who know them and who refuse to go along with the majority to cover all the distasteful things they’ve done to and against people who stood up to them. Let there be sound bytes of this dvd to see if she can stand the tests as Obama does. Fair is fair. Go to http://www.hillarythemovie.com

I’m relatively certain he was refering to the general election. As for why, perhaps it has to do the copious amounts batshit crazy that Obama seems to surround himself with.

Technically speaking neither Obama or Clinton can win the primary prior to the convention because regardless of announcements of intent, superdelegates aren’t pledged and their votes don’t count until actually cast.

  8. I want to say a word about the basic decency I have seen in Mr. Obama. Mrs. Clinton continues to throw the Rev. Wright up in his face as part of her mission to keep stoking the fears of White America. Every time she does this I shout at the TV, “Say it, Obama! Say that when she and her husband were having marital difficulties regarding Monica Lewinsky, who did she and Bill bring to the White House for ‘spiritual counseling?’ THE REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT!”
But no, Obama won’t throw that at her. It wouldn’t be right. It wouldn’t be decent. She’s been through enough hurt. And so he remains silent and takes the mud she throws in his face.

By “batshit crazy” I guess you must mean Rev. Wright, right? In the general election do you really think a non-issue like Rev Wright’s will be enough for Americans to prefer a GOP candidate who pretty much wants to retain the status-quo in say, Iraq, the economy and on health care? Dont be swayed by the present day sentiments that seem to dominate the primaries, by the time we get to the GE, it would have dissipated and people will rally behind the candidate that offers something fresh and different. Be it Obama or Clinton. The choice then wont be between a candidate and his “*&%#@” Pastor but between a party that offers more of the same and one that offers change to a better direction. That’s has how I think it will play out then.

  10. #8 Basic decency? Shirley you jest. Look back on the surrogates who assisted Obambi in his runs for office. So many coincidental problems popped up for opponents. And why did that judge have to unseal the divorce papers of US Senate opponent Jack Ryan vis a vis Seven of Nine ex? Why the shady characters throughout his life? Why sit at that church for 20 years and soak in the most vile hatred. I’d like to hear the conservations between Obama and his c*nt wife Michelle. Why would he put up with her hate America camel dung if he possessed ANY basic decency? Do the Obamatards actually think that B. HUSSEIN is not at sympathetic with the views of Michelle, Wright, Ayers, Dohrn and Rezko? As an aside, why would so-called Christian rev Wrong have Farrakhan’s NOI bodyguards surrounding him? What’s the connection there? Follow the money?

  11. Clinton’s only path to the general election is to steal the primary through the Clinton political machine wrangling superdelegates since wh will lose the delegate and popular vote ( cannot count Michigan with no Obama on ballot)
If she does that the Democrats will revolt and she has no chance to beat McCain.
So therefore … she as no chance to be president
