The New York Post reports Eliot Spitzer has started therapy and will “explore whether he has an addiction to sex.”

Surprise!

  1. I think they’d do better to explore whether he has a God-complex.

  2. A Robert Palmer song video on topic. But his successor, Patterson, seems even more pathetic. He’s legally blind. What difference did he see?

  3. “therapy”. “addiction!”

Take responsibility for your actions, or get yourself committed as incompetent to manage your affairs.

  4. Next up, Spitzer prosecutes his therapist: “we have to send a message to these people!”

  5. I hope his therapist is not cute…

    Next stop, Oprah!

  6. When the Lewinsky scandal was occurring, news stations brought out experts talking about this sex addiction and how it was common among powerful people. What these people are addicted to is “power” and are just using sex as another way of asserting it. I still haven’t seen these people saying any Republican caught in a sex scandal have this addiction.

It’s funny, I’m actually addicted to sex, and being a jerk in the comments section of this blog is my way of asserting it.

  8. Sex addiction is a relatively new phenomenon. I mean, it’s not like every one of our ancestors did it, you know.

  9. Exactly, eeyore.

  10. that’s it, i must be in sex withdrawal and i need a fix!

  11. Or you’ve been fixed and you need a sex withdrawal.

  12. Patterico,

Your sitemeter link delays full loading of your page(s) by 30-60 secs, often ruining whatever I am typing into the comments.

    Are others having this prob?

p.s. a picture of a previous patient in therapy, which was successful!

  13. Scott, but you’ve been saying you’re not married.

  14. BTW Phil, you shouldn’t give us low-hanging fruit like that. Good thing everyone had their self-restraint turned on.

Yes. Minorly annoying. My solution is to stop loading after the main text is loaded and the data transmission pauses.

But it’s not half as annoying as blogs like Instapundit which “auto-update” by some javascript jive every 3 minutes. If you go offline to read their blog after loading it, the wretched thing will try to update and then disappear with a DNS failure. So I limit my reading of those.

Why bloggers think they have to use a bunch of bells and whistles has always been a mystery to me. But it’s their money, time and bandwidth — until it makes their blog more trouble to read than it’s worth. Then I just stop reading the blog.

But then I’m a text & no pics type. I’d be browsing with Lynx if it was still possible.

  16. Sex addiction???? In earlier more direct days we called that problem being a @#%^hound.

Being unable to control a zipper problem is not something that needs a doctor to fix.

  17. Spitzer is like all the rich and famous.
His pitch will be thus: “There is no personal accountablity, this poor behavior is an expression of a disease I have. I’m not a scumbag, i’m just sick. And once the Doctor cures me (finish my rehab) then I can come back and be a Democrat Gov. again!!!”

I’m not. Never said I was swimming in it though, did I?

  19. A woman answers the door to a market researcher. “Good morning madam, I’m doing some research for Vaseline. Do you use it at all in your household?”
“Oh yes, all the time. It’s very good for cuts, grazes and burns.”
“Do you use it for anything else?”
    “Like what?”
“Ahem.. err.. well.. during.. ahem.. sex.”
“Oh, of course. Yes, I smear it on the bedroom doorknob to keep my husband out!”

  21. Timely Story – Eliot Spitzer, Perjury, Racism, and the Presidential Election

I am a 54-year-old divorced black female and the mother of four children. My oldest child and only son served 4 years in the United States Marines Corp. He is a Christian and has been employed as a Police Officer for 11 years. Two of my daughters are college graduates and gainfully employed. (Penn State and UVA). Oldest daughter 29 is a Senior Manager and has my old grand children. My grand boys are 7 and 4 years old.

Racism and/or race relations in America are being used to derail the Presidential candidacy of Senator Obama. I believe that nothing happens in this world by chance. It is a divine moment that Senator Obama is just months away from being a President for all Americans. It is also a divine moment for me because I have written and published a book for just this time in our history. “A Case of Racial Discrimination and Retaliation Real or Imagined” will show the world the hardships and unfairness of employment discrimination

My life is an American story. As an underdog born into poverty I managed to achieve my dream of graduating from college and having what should have been a great career with New York State Department of Corrections. My dream and my life were shattered by employment discrimination.
My book is a powerful tool to show Black, White, and all Americans that discrimination and racism is real and a daily struggle for some black people. The book is an easy read that details my life story and my employment discrimination experience.

Various chapters in the book show that former Governor Spitzer victimized me in his role as the Attorney General of NYS. By filing perjured declarations in court NYS Atty. General’ Office denied an American citizen my constitutional rights of due process and equal protection under the law.

One of the main facts of my book is that the America judicial system and that the courts including the United States Supreme Court failed me in this case. A system that has failed and continues to fail many minority citizens. The book can be previewed at

I was born poor in rural north Florida to an unwed mother. We were too poor to even have an outhouse – we had to share my grand mother’s out door toilet. As a child I worked in tobacco fields and one year worked as a migrant worker. As a migrant worker I picked peaches, apples, and harvested tomatoes and cabbages.

Excerpt from my book: “I was introduced to the U.S. Constitution in a 9th grade Civics class. I listened intensely as the teacher explained the constitutional protection of the13th and 14th Amendments of the United States Constitution.
The fact that the Fourteenth Amendment contained the due process and equal protection clauses meant more to me than my teacher would ever know. The knowledge that all Americans are protected by “our” constitution changed my whole outlook on life.

My mother’s statement made years earlier that we are all equal because GOD made us all raced through my mind. I realized and accepted the fact that GOD really did make all people equal. The knowledge and acceptance of this fact coupled with my newfound understanding of the meaning of the 13th and 14th amendments guarantees would order and guide me for the rest of my life to my divine destiny and purpose.

For the first time in my life I had hope. As an American these two amendments insured me that my future would be brighter and different than that of my mother. I would achieve my mother’s dream for me to graduate from high school. I would also

  22. I guess it wasn’t alcohol or drugs.

I can hear it now. I’m Elliot, and I am a p**** addict.

I bet his wife was surprised. She was probably wondering why his frequency was down.
