Pelosi: “Take it from me, that won’t be the ticket.”

CNN reports this from Nancy Pelosi on the dream ticket of Clinton-Obama or Obama-Clinton:

“The Democratic presidential ticket will be a “Dream Team,” Nancy Pelosi said Thursday, it just won’t have both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama’s name on it.

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, the House Speaker reiterated comments she made earlier in the week that the two presidential candidates will not end up sharing a ticket.

“I do think we will have a dream team, it just won’t be those two names,” She said. “Whoever our nominee is and whoever he or she is and whoever he or she chooses, will be a dream team as the Democrats go forward.”

When pressed further about the possibility of a joint ticket, Pelosi stated flatly, “Take it from me, that won’t be the ticket.”

The comments echoed remarks the Speaker made Tuesday, when she emphatically told a Boston television station that a joint ticket with Clinton and Obama is “impossible.”

I wonder if she really knows something or if this is an effort to avoid getting in the middle of today’s complex Democratic politics. I don’t know — I’m just a simple person when it comes to politics — but I hope she’s right.

  1. I guess she’s been listening to Obama’s pastor’s tapes.

  3. Maybe, they have already decided who is going to be on their ticket.

  5. It’s really fairly obvious.

Obama is from Chicago. He may be stupid in a lot of ways but he’d never take Hillary as Vice President. The Clinton Death List is way way way too long.

Similarily, being Vice-President to Hillary gives her way too much power over him, so he can’t take that either. Not when he can just step aside, learn from the experience, and be unstoppable 4-8 years from now.

  6. Obama would never want to be V.P. to Clinton because, in essense, he’d be 2nd V.P., not 1st V.P. And no way would Clinton play second fiddle to Obama. She’ll just content herself with finishing out her Senate term, and then who knows, maybe run for Governor of N.Y.? Bill could just continue the Spitzer legacy.

  7. Broder has a very good nuts&bolts explanation for why it won’t happen.

Clinton No.2 – if they lose, the party isn’t very nice to losers in the next go round. Dem losing VO nominees: Shriver, Ferraro, Bensten, Edwards. Gore was not elected after serving as VP, nor was Mondale. Better plan for her if Obama wins nomination is go back to Senate and see about 2012, or run for NY Gov. in 2010. If they win, she’s shut out of a Presidential run until 2016.

Obama No.2 – Clinton in WH means WJC in WH too. That makes the VP third man out. A VP under Hillary would be the world’s smallest shrinking politician, especially with the acrimony that has developed. Hillary will have her staff, Billy will have his staff, and Obama will attend a lot of funerals. If they lose has has the same problem of being a losing VP nominee. His better option is to stay in the Senate, or curiously enough, run for Gov. of Ill. to fill in the lack of executive experience on his resume. Very interesting idea.

  8. I think at this point, they hate each other so, so much, that it would be too weird to put them on the same ticket. Pelosi has a front-row seat, being a very important party insider. She’s probably seen even more vicious attacks on the candidates that never became public, but were just floated within the Dem inner circle. She’s also probably seen a bunch of private machinations by the two of them.

  9. I think we have to listen to Nancy, as she has been so right on all of her political calculations the past year.

  14. Actually, I’m trying to watch F-1 practice from “Down Under”, and it is nice to have it back, but so much of practice is boring; so, it’s nice to have something to focus the old grey matter.

  15. What is F-1 practice? Are you talking about the Formula 1 practices in Melbourne?
