Gotta love these quotes:
Greenhouse, 61, said in a phone interview that she had been planning to retire in a few years anyway and that the buyout offers, which were announced by the newspaper last week, came along at an opportune time.
To avoid the <strike>pitchfork-and-torch bearing uncouth villagers</strike> the ongoing criticism.
"I don't feel like I'm leaving anything undone after 30 years on this beat," she said.
Except full disclosure of conflicts of interest.

Bullshit. She is going to spend the rest of the term there. She is no way chastized, just bored with getting called for crappy reporting. This is just the powerful going off to relax with a golden parachute, having done their duty to spin the court for us yokels for many years.

Funny how the buyout offer comes on the heels of all the controversy about not disclosing her husband's involvement in a couple of the detainee cases.

I wonder if the view of the editors was "We don't need this, and there are lots of reporters who would probably like to cover the SC where she has been for 20 years."

I see nothing in the reporting here and elsewhere to suggest this is a situation where "There are other things I want to do in this business, blah blah blah". It might really be a shove out the door.

If we pool our money can we get Krugman to accept a buy-out as well?
