Next Thing You Know They’ll Be Circulating Pictures of American Soldiers in Tribal Dress

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 10:26 pm

From the L.A. Times:

BAGHDAD — A man in a wheelchair blew himself up Monday and killed a police commander in what an Iraqi official suggested may have been a case of a disabled person being used by insurgents.

If so, it would be the third time this month that Iraqi security forces say disabled people were used to carry explosives that killed themselves and others.

. . . .

In a meeting with journalists, Interior Minister Jawad Bolani said the wheelchair bomber who struck in Samarra, 60 miles north of Baghdad, might also have been an unwitting carrier of a bomb.

More and more, Iraqi terrorists are using disabled people who may not even know they’re going to be suicide bombers.

Jeez. They sound almost as desperate and pathetic as Hillary Clinton.

  1. He links to the story but Drudge has taken down the picture of Obama in Somali dress. I can’t find it at any of the mainstream US media sites (although I didn’t check them all). It is covered by blogs and the foreign media.

  2. I didn’t know that was Somali dress. I thought somebody was doing a really shitty job of applying first aid to Obama. My first year Boy Scouts can do better than that wrapping people in bandages.

  3. At this pt the terrorists know they have lost and are merely looking to inflict as much harm as possible to punish the populace for rejecting them.

  4. For DRJ, #1: Drudge, N.Y. Times, Washington Post, Time magazine, ABC, Chicago Sun-Times, Fox News, CBS, NPR (and so on).

I wonder if maybe you did a Google News search around midnight? I’m thinking the foreign news sites might have been updating around then; Google pushes fresher stuff up higher in the results, I think.

[EDIT – Thanks, NR. It was around midnight and apparently I’m not very good at searches. However, I know it wasn’t on Drudge when I looked. I clicked every link searching for it. — DRJ]

  5. OK, I guess I get the joke. Hillary’s staff was pretty lame to pull the Obama=muslim slur, though I think it’s gullible to accept that Hillary was behind it.

How are these jokes unlike the Bush=Hitler Moveon.org ads?

Hillary Clinton is a passionate and unflinching advocate of social welfare policy. She is a shining example of what makes America great. She, Bush, Mccain, Gore, Obama, all co-exist, peacefully demanding they get their way. Hillary is 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000X greater than an insurgent terrorist who uses retards and cripples as missiles to murder children.

To compare the two is disgusting, especially to the victims of terrorism. Hillary is not more pathetic or more desperate than the terrorists who kill our soldiers, children, Jews, etc. Bush isn’t on par with nazis or facists like Stalin and Mao. And it’s not fuckin’ funny. There are real people out there maimed or burying their wife because of these terrorists. I’d be pretty ticked off if someone called Bush a Hitler, so I’d be pretty intellectually dishonest to pretend this blog is acting acceptably.

This blog has once again exemplified Malkin, Coulter, Markos, Michael Moore type politics. So much promise with insightful posts and relentless discussion of the LA Times and such. That makes this quite a disapointment.

Jem, glad to see you get it.

Unfortunately there’s way, way, way too many people–including some of this blog’s commenters–that don’t.

I don’t know which way you lean politically, but if it’s left, we need many more like you.

  7. Patterico,

I read this blog regularly and I respect you, so I do not want to seem hostile or angry, but I do think that this joke is in poor taste.

  8. Jem,

    What is “Malkin-type” politics?

  9. “OK, I guess I get the joke. Hillary’s staff was pretty lame to pull the Obama=muslim slur, though I think it’s gullible to accept that Hillary was behind it.”

I think that it’s gullible to accept that she wasn’t. There’s an awful lot of shit her campaign pulls, and somehow she is directly responsible for any of it. If that’s really true, what kind of leader would she be?

But I don’t think it’s really true. I suspect she’s behind it all right.

“This blog has once again exemplified Malkin, Coulter, Markos, Michael Moore type politics. So much promise with insightful posts and relentless discussion of the LA Times and such. That makes this quite a disapointment.”

This smacks of faux disappointment. The key is the “once again” phrase.

Joe M.: it’s an edgy joke. I don’t do many of those. It should be clear to most readers that of course I don’t really think Hillary Clinton is worse than these terrorists in any way. I’m exaggerating for comic effect. I can respect that you don’t like the joke — but it’s obviously a *joke*.

  12. Jem:

How are these jokes unlike the Bush=Hitler Moveon.org ads?

Oh, I dunno, maybe the same way every other joke is unlike any non-joke?! The Coulter analogy was apt, however, as I do find this brand of humor to be much in line with the edgier jokes of hers Patterico has skewered in the past. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!

    Xrlq (b71926)

  13. I’m offended that Patterico couldn’t come up with a funnier joke. It’s not like the current crop of candidates don’t provide enough material… BAD Patterico. BAD.

That said… it was obviously a joke. Take a valium, Jem.

  14. 5, jem, considering that the Clintonistas ARE moveon.org, the “muslim slur” of Obama and the “Bush = Hitler” comes from the same source.

How many cites do you need to acknowledge that many lefties have called Bush Hitler? You want to start with a Ted Rall cartoon?

    PCD (c378fd)

  15. “considering that the Clintonistas ARE moveon.org, the “muslim slur” of Obama and the “Bush = Hitler” comes from the same source.”

    – PCD

*sigh*… PCD: Google “MoveOn endorses” and see what you get.

I’ll give you a hint: the answer is “Barack Obama”.

    Pretty flimsy “Clintonistas”, those.

    Leviticus (43095b)

  16. Sigh, Leviticus, Google a little more and COUNT THE CLINTONISTAS THAT FOUNDED MOVEON.ORG. You can also refresh your understanding of MoveOn’s original purpose, ie. to spin the Clinton Impeachment.

    PCD (c378fd)

  17. Nice tapdance, but ultimately of no avail. Your argument boils down to: MoveOn is in such thrall to Bill/Hillary Clinton that it endorsed… Barack Obama? Have fun making that one stick.

Insofar as your point in re: the original purpose of MoveOn.org goes, I would think it fairly obvious that MoveOn’s purpose has since changed (insofar as Clinton’s not technically “President” anymore).

    Leviticus (68eff1)

  18. MoveOn originally meant “Move on from Monica Lewinsky”. Perhaps a better construct would be “The Clintonistas were MoveOn.org.”

    Pablo (99243e)

  19. Pablo – that’s a fair construct, and I wouldn’t have taken issue with it. I just think it’s wrong to argue that the “Clintonistas” are MoveOn.org when MoveOn.org just endorsed Obama.

I will say that MoveOn seems to be the very definition of a “fairweather friend” at this point… not that I had any particular respect for the organization in the first place.
