Bill Clinton’s Freudian Slip (Updated)

[Guest post by DRJ]

It was inevitable: “If you elect me, I’ll repeal those subsidies … ”

– DRJ

UPDATE BY PATTERICO: With all due respect, I don’t think this is a fair knock on Clinton. He begins the clip by saying “So, Hillary says . . .” and ends it with the phrase “if you elect me.” So the fair reading of this is: “Hillary says . . . if you elect me . . .” It’s a non-story, in my view.

By the way, isn’t that endless loop annoying?

UPDATE BY DRJ: Fair enough. I think your analysis is reasonable, and obviously Bill Clinton knows he isn’t running for President. Furthermore, even if this was a misstatement, it’s understandable given their hectic schedules and the frequent speeches they give. But I still think it was a little Freudian.

  2. Heh. I’m surprised he hasn’t already done this -several times over! Poor Bill. What will he do if Hillary doesn’t win and he’s without a built-in audience?

  4. Another “oopsie” at a bad time for Hillary.

Of course, these past few months have been non-stop bad times for Hillary, so I won’t question the timing.

  5. Erections not elections. Poor Bill.

  6. I may disagree with Bill on so many things, but he’s a sight better than most Democrats these days. I think he should go ahead and run for office. And for goodness sake, he needs to get a divorce already.

  7. I will at least agree with the last part of what Jem said…

    I wouldn’t wish Hillary on anybody…

  8. See!
I was right, he is running for Vice President!

  9. As much as I dislike BJ, I’m not sure something like this (even assuming he wasn’t quoting the wife) is worthy of much more that a polite smile. The guy ran for one office or another his entire adult life, so I’d just chalk it up to force of habit.

  11. He wants back in the White House so bad he can taste it, and he’ll run his wife as the “candidate” to get there if he has to. The Constitution only lets a person have two terms, Bill!

  12. He thinks he is still in the whitehouse when he has been out for almost 8 years
